By the EnumChildWindows API I can know the Hwnd of the ListBox control of an external application. By the Hwnd I can too to select "generically" the control by a PostMessage API, also if the application is not the foreground window.
Now the question is: is there way, in your opinion, to select a specific item of this external list box, also when the application is not the foreground window?
I am working with a list of points. It is declared as a global in my form.[code]the only issue is that instead of New Point(100,100) i need to be able to navigate to the previous 4 records in the list. pull out the 4 x vals the 4 y vals and boom there you go. In the old days id make a simple loop and get r done but im not sure the syntax to step through the list that way.

View 3 RepliesI am trying to create an application that will randomly select 14 "stations" (strings) from a list of 33. My thinking is that I have a for/next loop that randomly selects a number between 1,33 which is then inputted into an array (arrnumber) I then want those random numbers to then be used to call the Station name which is saved in the second array, and then for the selected stations to be populated into a listbox (potentially by storing those names selected in a new array?)
Various people have suggested either using a list (of t) instead of arrays, or a Dictionary(?) or perhaps even a database, though I am not all that confident with VB to be able to know where the best place to start with that is. So if anyone can offer any advice, pointers as to how I can link my 2 arrays (I am pretty sure I know how to make the array populate a listbox) I would be very much obliged.

I've experimented with GetType and TypeOf but have not managed to get anything working.
To clarify, I want to keep this generic. I do not want to specify the type of T, I need to loop the list items and call the ToString method on each item. T could be one of a number of different types (application specific reference types). Is it possible to do this without specifying types?

This program is supposed to allow the user to check items in a checked list box. If the item is checked, it goes into the Completed List Box on the right. The program then adds the unchecked items to the Pending list box on the left. I keep getting placement values (e.g. O,1,2) instead of the strings (e.g. "Key Returned") in the list box results (see photo attached)

Another program I am working on for fun, I am basically shuffling a list inside a listbox, what I want to do is delete the rest but not sure how to go through with that. At the moment I have this: [code] Just contains the code, declarations outside weren't included.So anyway, once clicked, it will call on the function to basically shuffle in a for loop, I was wondering if I should (or how should) create another function and call it in the click button or have just a loop in the click button so it deletes half the list. What I am doing is I have 20 list of items, I want the program to shuffle the items and then deleting the lower 10, meaning, if I had 10 items and wanted 5 top, I'd want: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and deleting 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

I am trying to call an external C++ function using VB.NET (answers in C# are fine, I can convert back) which returns a list of device names. This comes in the form of a pointer to a null-terminated array of null-terminated char arrays (correct me if I've misunderstood what I'm dealing with) with a function signature:
long GetNames(char*** names)
Most of the answers to similar questions I've found have involved something more like:
long GetNames(char** names, int length)
It appears from what I've read that I need to give it an IntPtr but I'm uncertain as to how this should be initialized, and in my case I don't know the length of the array. At the moment, in the VB module, I have:

I've tried calling the function by passing an IntPtr initialized as IntPtr.Zero or using Marshall.AllocHGlobal, but I always get an AccessViolationException.

Items.Count > lstInvisiblePc.Items.Count Then it works good if the lstInvisibleTv list box is greater than the other list box by one but it also works if it is greater the other one by one or more which I do not want. how to center an external app on the screen, an example would be Adobe Reader, using either Process.Start or Shell. I've 'attempted' both but haven't found anything to control the position. App1: I have no control over anything in this application aside from standard user inteface options. (Enter text, apply, ok) Someone else has created this program and I have no direct access to the database or any code. I can not make any changes to this application.App2: This is the application that I am currently creating. All changes will need to be made here.I currently have a program set up to copy information from App2 to App1. A user clicks a button in App2 and then goes to App1 and hits F8. App2 is waiting to get F8 and when it does it proceeds to use a series of sendkeys to enter the information from App2 into App1.Question 1: Is there a better way to get info from App2 into App1?I am trying to "smarten" my program up a bit. I would like it to read fields from App1 and compare them to certain variables and then do an action. I have tried to use sendkeys to copy from App1. This sometimes works, and other times the clipboard says object not collected it is not a valid format. So this method is obviously not reliable enough for me.Question 2: How do I copy data from a text box in App1? Sendkeys seems to not work. Again, keep in mind that I don't know textbox names in App1 so as far as I know, I can't do anything like textbox1.copy.
