View 1 RepliesI've been playing around with Windows 7 taskbar thumbnail previews. I've noticed that some Microsoft applications are able to set thumbnail images which have transparency in background. I've been trying all out and not been able to achieve this.
I've set a picturebox control having PNG with transparency as thumbnail preview, doesnt work. I tried creating a new bitmap and loading from Icon file having transparency and setting it as preview but still doesn't work. It keeps showing the background color of the form window.
This is what Microsoft apps are able to acheive:

Im trying to set a background image for my Form. The problem is that the form contains textboxes, groupboxes, labels and panels, so I have to manually set the picture for each type of objects. That looks weird though because you can tell that the same picture has been placed a lot of times for each object. Is there a solution to this?

size image < size picture box
How can make the background of the picture box become an image too because my coding was to get the pixel from width and height picture box.. When I found the none image property, vb will show the error.. said coordinate(x,y) was null. It can be illustrated like on the picture above.
Sometimes I will used it when:
picture properties - size mode = center image
So the picture will found at center height and width.. and the background will surround it. Sometimes I used it after rotating the picture.. The problem occur when the picture get rotate for 45 degree. I am taking all point corners of the image and rotating it. So the picture will create 4 triangle at the corners..
I have a vb.net 2008 application which has its corresponding icon.
The icon shows correctly except in the taskbar when the "small icon" setting is on.
My vb.net project includes a .ico file which when I see in the IDE includes 16x16, 32x32, 48x48, 64x64 and 256x256 bitmaps, in 4, 24 and 32 bits, also 3 .png images in 256x256 32 bits each.
I made the icon myself simply using a 64x64 bitmap and then converting it to .ico, and assigning it to the application in the project properties. I thought windows would use and escalate the corresponding image, it shows even in the file explorer properly in the small icon form, but not in the taskbar.
Is their a way to run a VB 2008 project in the background and have a taskbar Icon displayed?

background of char, bombs and shrooms: transparent

How can i fix it so the transparent parts dont see form as background but marioland as background?
Right now I'm drawing a small 16x16 image on the title bar of my window. It works nicely, except for an obnoxious flicker that I cant figure out how to get rid of. I'm simply drawing the image like this:
Protected Overrides Sub WndProc(ByRef m As Message)
If m.Msg = WM_SIZE Then
wnd_size = New Size(New Point(CInt(m.LParam)))[code]....
Its repainting the entire title bar each time something is changed on it(click, mouseover the corner buttons, etc), and its during the repaint I get the flicker.
I can't remember exactly if this is possible or not but what I am attempting I would think should theoretically be possible. I know it is possible in WPF but the company I am working for doesn't want to make the transition just yet. Basically what I want is to use a background image on a form for the background and I have a docked control on the right and left. I have set the background on both of these docked controls to transparent however it is showing the back color rather than the background image. I tried, rather than setting the background image property, to override the onpaintbackground and onpaint events and use e.graphics.draw(picture, me.clientrectangle) but it still seems to just pick up the backcolor as the true transparent background so I'm wondering if it's possible to get it to show the background image through the control rather than the backcolor of the form?
View 3 Replieswhat I am trying to accomplish worked with the code in the last thread I posted a while back. I still am using this code, however, I changed the window size to work better and gave it a nicer background for the title screen of my project. Now what I am working on at the moment is making a settings form that has 2 labels. One for "Default" Layout and one for "Plain" layout. When default is at start, the default label is disabled,and when plain layout is clicked, the button is disabled and default button is enabled.Basically, this is a toggle switch for default or plain where if one is enabled, the option for it is disabled and the other is enabled.My problem is that when I switch from Plain back to default, the background Image will not switch back from the plain background color of "control"Here is my code:
Public Class Settings
Private Sub LinkLabel1_LinkClicked(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.LinkLabelLinkClickedEventArgs) Handles LinkLabel1.LinkClicked
MiDNiGHT.BackgroundImage = Nothing[code].......

I have a section of code that generates a pdf file everything looks great but I would like to alternate the line colors in that pdf file between 2 color so that the values are easy to follow for the person looking at it. Is there a way to set the background color of a whole line based on font size to a set color? A function I would be using this in is below:

I thought about just setting the background color of the line by using the y_line1 and using a modulus to determine if the color should be grey or white. But I have found no code samples anywhere about how to set a whole line background color..
I have a picturebox image for the form and added a label on top of the image, i have it set the background on the label to transparent but its not transparent. How do i fix this ?

I have a form in an application I'm working on that normally displays full screen without a taskbar but provide the option to switch to a minimizable window with a taskbar. When I switch from full screen without taskbar to minimizable window with taskbar everything is ok. When I try to switch back to full screen the border disappears but the taskbar is still there and the form is not aligned properly.The text at the top is cut off somewhat and there's a small margin at the right edge that shouldn't be there.I put this code in a keydown event for the form.
If Me.FormBorderStyle = System.Windows.Forms.FormBorderStyle.None Then
Me.ControlBox = True
Me.FormBorderStyle = System.Windows.Forms.FormBorderStyle.Sizable[code]....
How do I get the taskbar to disappear and the form to display properly when I return to the full screen mode?
I'm making a front end to dvdauthor.I have a picturebox which holds the menu background. In order to draw a textbutton on the background image I store the image in a hidden picturebox. So the text doesn't get drawn to the visible background.

If c.GetType() Is GetType(TextBtn) Then[code]...
This works the first time. But if I hit save again it writes the text to the background image on pbMenu1.

View 2 RepliesI'm having a few problems creating a transparent form. The reason I want to do this is because I'm attempting to make a custom border (one that isn't exactly square).I can already get the form to be transparent, then I set my custom background image, which all works perfect, it even detects when the mouse enters the image, which is great. (I use transparency key to make the form transparent)
The problem is, if I add ANY control, or even if I just save the file, NOTHING else, the whole thing has a spaz attack.. Instead of having the image with the transparent form, the square form appears every time I run the app.
I have inserted PNG image (transparent background) but it can't go to transparent. I want it to be front of other label but it's gray background hide the text what i have to do with this?
