We have a VB.Net application which works fine in our tests in different Windows XP SP3 machines. However there is one machine in which is displaying this error:
Unable to connect to any of the specified MySQL hosts
Using the mysql command, we can successfully connect to the database. We already checked for any other application or firewall that could be blocking the connection but it seems fine. We also reinstalled the system (no errors during the installation) but the MySQL error message doesn't change.
The system settings are exactly the same as in the other computers. We are using "localhost" as server in the connection string. The "hosts" file has its default values (nothing strange in there).

I want to be able to activate my application through my website. Like AIM, they have a protocol "aim?.." what ever, I was wondering how I might go about that? My application is standalone, I wonder if this would reduce the chances of this being possible.

I have a working Visual Basic application. I wish to have a html page that displays how to use it. How do I link it into a web browser control? This will be published and can't be just typing in the directory name as it may not exist on the client computer. How do I get it to look for the file in my solution explorer? I am using WPF in visual basic 2008 EXPRESS.

Things such as if I change something on the forum it will be changed on someone else who is looking at the forum, granted it would be a specific person who i am connecting with,

I have browser control in a winform application that navigates to a secure intranet location. In the web application that sits in the browser are several links that bring up other windows outside of the browser... like dialog type browser windows that may contain information like user information... etc.
When I run the application in a regular browser, it runs the new window perfectly but when I click on the same button link in the web application, it brings up a windows with no data saying that I don't have access to the server.

I want to ask how to i do this :
1. Make my application to go to a webpage .
2. Open a certain link .
3. Find & Select an element(mostly element ID or div ID) on a web page like buttons etc.
4. Then extract data from a webpage . Like there's a word for example "Yellow" word in the web page . I need it to find it and copy it then paste into a textbox in my application.

So i'm creating a simple application as an example that is to link to a Access 2007 database.
On my main form i have four listboxes that are correctly attached to the table, I have one for First Name, Last Name, Phone, and School. I added 3 records to the database in Access to see if I could display the records in the listboxes on the form. I found that it was very easy by setting the properties and I have no problem there. I also have a command button that loads a new form for the purpose of adding a record to the database.
Here is my main form (frmMain.vb)...
CODE:
And Here is the code for the form...
CODE:
What i'm looking for is when the user presses the Add button on the frmAddNew form then it needs to close and the new record is listed in the textboxes and saved to the database. Id also like to know all kinds of things i might be able to do with textboxes and databases because i'm trying to learn for a larger project where i'll need to keep track of hundreds of records.
I understand that this is a simple procedure, but i've been spending all night scouring tutorials and getting lost in the msdn library online, so maybe some human input will be better.

I have created a little application to move some files around and put them into a database. This is working well except that the application needs a timeout. If my app has not completed the task within 2 hours it re opens and locks out everything. I need to say that if my application has been open for 2 hours close it. One thought was can you set a time out in an application.

In VB.NET, you can set focus to an external application using
AppActivate("Windows Name")
or
AppActivate(processID As Integer)
Now this works fine if you do for example:
Dim intNotePad As Integer = Shell("C:WINNTNotepad.exe",
AppWinStyle.MinimizedNoFocus)
AppActivate(intNotePad)
But when I do:
For Each theprocess As Process In processlist
If InStr(theprocess.ProcessName, "DWG") Then
strProcessList += String.Format("Process: {0} ID: {1}", theprocess.ProcessName, theprocess.Id) + vbCrLf
AppActivate(theprocess.ID)
[code]....
then it doesn't find the window, even if it's open and even if it finds the window using the window title. But I need it by process ID.How can I do that?I need it to set focus on a 3rd party installer in a windows installer setup project.

I have an application that has two states based on the value of a Boolean variable: a read_only=true state and read_only=false state. The value of this state is stored in an external settings file. My application has a feature called deploy that generates a copy of itself in the same folder with the read_only=true state. But, the read_only variable value is stored in an external file so now both files will be in the read_only=true state. What I want to do is make one of them(the original one) always be read_only = false and the other read_only=true

I've tried everything to set my window as active after I've been working on another external App... I have my system on auto and need to send some keystrokes to the program using sendkeys, so I need that app active. I've tried almost everything I can think of, bringtofront, setfocus, windowstate, setactivewindow, setforegroundwindow (For the last 2, hwnd doesnt work - I'm using VB 2008 Express) but none of them seem to be working.
