.net - Cannot Load File From Root Directory

Jun 15, 2012

I just made my first .net website. I'm trying to use the following line of code to load a file from the current directory ( same diredtory all the web files are in). I get a error saying file does not exist

InstallFormTemp = My.Computer.FileSystem.ReadAllText("installerform.html")

I copied the file to my c drive and chnage the line to

InstallFormTemp = My.Computer.FileSystem.ReadAllText("c:installerform.html")

it worked, but now my site has to run a godaddy's webserver, so I cannot save stuff in the c drive, just my web directory.

How can I get My.Computer.FileSystem.ReadAllText to read files from the websites current directory?

Load User Controls From A Directory?

Oct 10, 2011

This is an odd question but can I load custom controls from a directory? (e.g TestControl.dll) in my application at runtime instead of adding a com reference?The reason I am asking is that I have an application that is installed as an add-in for MS office. The entire interface is a panel that contains a user control. Initial installation is a bit involved so after the first install, I would like to use clickOnce to deploy updates by just supplying new user controls.

Users Drive To Be Able To Load Them From Specified Directory?

Oct 13, 2010

I have a program that allows the user to choose from 100's of .rtf files and .loadfile them into an rtb. When I build and then deploy the program (version1.0) how are the files that pre-exist on my drive end up available on the users drive to be able to load them from the specified directory? Do I need to make the .rtf files a resource? Or is this process simply "done" when user installs app? By the way, I am using Visual Studio 2008 (Visual Basic).

Open File Retain The Directory Of The Last Opened File?

Jan 10, 2010

So I open files and do whatever with them right. I've set the initial directory to equal the last directory, but whenever I open multiple files, it never sets the directories properly. It acts as though nothing was opened there, so it takes the previous directory as the last one. Thoughts on what's not working? Here's the code.

Code:
With FileOpenDialog1
.InitialDirectory = LastDirectory
If .ShowDialog = DialogResult.OK Then

[code]....

I have multiselect enabled earlier and everything else works but this. When you open a single file, the last directory works fine. It only happens with multiselect.On another note, does anyone know why it freezes when I try to do a lot of files and use another program? I opened 700+ files to see what would happen. When I switched to a IM convo, it froze. When I left it to run, it worked.

C# - License.licx File And Licensed/Unlicensed Machines - Error 1 'Could Not Load File Or Assembly

Dec 1, 2011

In a VS2010 solution I have a license.licx file that contains:

DataDynamics.ActiveReports.ActiveReport, ActiveReports6, Version=6.1.2814.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=cc4967777c49a3ff
DataDynamics.ActiveReports.Web.WebViewer, ActiveReports.Web, Version=6.1.2814.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=cc4967777c49a3ff
DataDynamics.ActiveReports.Export.Pdf.PdfExport, ActiveReports.PdfExport, Version=6.1.2814.0, Culture=neutral,

[code]....

If I build the solution on a machine that HAS a license for ActiveReport then everything is fine. If I build the solution on a machine that DOESN'T have a license for ActiveReport I get:

Error 1 'Could not load file or assembly 'ActiveReports6,
Version=6.1.2814.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=cc4967777c49a3ff'
or one of its dependencies. Operation is not supported. (Exception
from HRESULT: 0x80131515)' LC

On the machine that DOESN'T have a license for ActiveReport if I remove the above lines from the license.licx file then everything builds fine. I always thought that if the license couldn't be found then the unlicensed version will be used but it wouldn't kill the build. How do I get this solution to build on any machine whether it has a license or doesn't?

First of all, I am currently using IO.filestream to store the .exe file.
