I cant really find any good sources for connecting to a database via connection string and executing prepared statements. Could someone show me an example or point me to a resource that might be useful?
View 2 RepliesI just want to know how to create a prepared statement in VB. I know in java one would use ? and these would get replaced. I am aware that in VB you use @ParameterName. Basically my code gets down to where i use the prepare method and the error i get is that my syntax for my insert is incorrect. To me it seems that the parameter is not getting substituted in the insert statement
Eg.

I'm developing a tiny program to update a single field in an MSSQL database table as needed.The user enters in an ID number, clicks Find Patient, and the TableAdapter output gets filtered into a DataGridView.Out of the entire table, I'm only displaying 3 columns (two locked for editing), and hiding the key column. When I go through the TableAdapter Configuration Wizard and have it build the Update queries, it complains: "Updating queries cannot be automatically generated because your SELECT query does not include some primary key columns. Do you wish to add primary key columns to your query?"

I need to import data from Excel into a MySQL 5 database. The format of the column in excel is set to "Time". the field value looks something like this:

I get this in my Immediate window when debugging:

what's the correct way to convert that string to a time value so I can insert into a datetime field in my database with no issues.

I have a class that handles execution of MySqlCommands and I'd like to have it log every query to a file. I can retrieve the query/command being executed with:
cmd.CommandText
but that just returns the original CommandText with the parameters (?customerID, ?firstName, etc.) and not the actual substituted values added by the AddWithValue functions. How can I find out the actual "final" query that was executed?
I am trying to figure out how to do this:

So basically, I want it to work like a timeline. If I say hello, then it will respond and move onto the next if statement. Get it?

The primary keys for all the tables are automatically generated by identites. In my case they simply produce the same results but that's because of the data i'm using.

I am trying to create a program that calculates the prices of different payment methods of a buffet.The program requirements are simple. The buffet start in 1/7/2011 and ends 31/8/2011. Payments methods are online, cash and coupon. coupon is only valid from 1/8/2011 to 31/8/ 2011. 1 child is free for every 2 adult that pay. View 3 RepliesMy product owner has asked me to make some comparision logic configurable so the process engineers can change things without making code changes. Currently the code is a SELECT CASE statement with various IF THEN statements that are fairly standard.
The problem I can't seem to find a way around is that he wants through configuration to AND/OR a variable number of comparisons in the IF THEN statements. His idea is the that the configuration would work like a limited query builder for the process engineers. The only solution I've come up with is to build a function in a string and use the VBCodeProvider to compile it at runtime. Is there a better way to approach this?
i have a program, three radios, and 2 check boxes. the Radios use a constant value and do a multiplication. check one applies a discount. no problem.
the last takes the values of all three radios does a comaparison and displays a label if false, performs a subtraction if true and shows savings.problem>
very convoluted using if statements. and the output is often wrong(i know this is a logic error) i can not find the fault.
would it be easier to use case statments. can and will post code if requested. as it is in if then format currently it is rather long.
Sometimes the answer is so blindingly obvious i fail to see it.
