how to apply inserting data syntax into the Try catch..

I have a SqlDataSource and a GridView.
What I want to do is, while the query is executed (i.e. for inserting a data), then after the data has inserted successfully, it should appear a message sounds: "The data deleted successfully". I've solved it by using GridView1_RowDeleted method.
Now the problem is, I want to catch the error while the query is failed to executed. If the query has failed to execute, then it should appear a message: "The data failed to insert."

I am currently writing a program in Visual Basic 2008 express edition to read and write to tags on an Omron PLC. I am using the DeviceXPlorer OPC Server V4.1.1.1 program to connect to the Omron PLC. I was using VB 2008 to code using applications. An example of something I coded was hangman. Between testing sessions on my windows service, I'm changing code (little tweaks here and there). For more detailed debugging, I've had the application send messages to a text file everytime it does something (executes a new procedure, catches an exception, etc).
I've been doing this for a while, but ever since yesterday, it appeared that the new code wasn't being used. To test this, I changed the name and location of the log file that the service would use, and re-installed it shortly after a new successful build. As it turns out, the service is writing only 1 message (about a timer being started - which is only supposed to happen after it's logged the start of the service) to the old text file. It looks to me like my service isn't using the new code in my Service1.vb file, Like the old code has been cached or something, and the service is installing from that.
I am programming in VB 2010 and have a question. I have some code that currently only applies to one text box. As you will see, I have sub setup to handle multiple textbox events. My question being, Is there a way to take this code and apply it to all textboxes that are being handled?

View 2 RepliesI have been experiencing a problem with one of my Try Catch blocks. Specifically, I have a block of code that inserts data into a db using a stored procedure. There is a problem within the code getting one of the parameters to the SP. I know what the problem is and how to fix it. My issue is that the Try Catch should be stopping any further execution of code once it catches the error. I have verified that the error is being caught and that it sends the exception to my label used for error reprorting. However, instead of stopping future execution and displaying the error it rolls over the label assignment and continues to the next piece of code in the calling procedure. In essence, it is as if there is no error occuring at all.To give everyone a point of reference, I call a sub-routine from a button click event. Within the sub-routine I have my Try Catch block with the SP code. I am NOT using Try Catch Finally. It is simply Try the SP Catch ex as Exception and End Try.

View 15 RepliesI have a program in VB.Net that receives mails from Outlook, extracts attachments and inserts the attachments into a table through a query. I would like to put the query/queries in a Try/Catch block, but cannot do so as Outlook exceptions cannot be caught, and it gives me an error, and unless I put a very specific exception, I cannot catch it. Is there a workaround?
