View 2 RepliesI have created a VB.NET program using windows forms. The program runs on a remote PC and displays information on a screen. The computer does not even have a mouse or keyboard connected to it. The program shows the information based on the file that is loaded.I want to be able to change this file remotely to another file that is already on the remote PC. I can't use a graphical remote desktop client as we have very limited bandwidth. So, my idea is to change the file using the command prompt.I'm not sure how to do this. Should I use something like this and load DosModule first:[code]How would I then read commands that is send to the program? I also only want one instance of the program running.
View 1 RepliesI am writing a app and I have a treeview. This treeview gets populated with parent and children. I also have a panel and a picturebox with a image in the picturebox. On top of the picturebox I and writing some Graphical objects.
See code
Dim theG As Graphics = Graphics.FromImage(PictureBox1.Image)
Dim ComputerName As String = ""
Dim UserName As String = ""
Dim NodeIP As String = ""
[Code] .....
When Afterselect on the treeview item this code runs. However when I select another child/node the code runs again whcih is great it write over the top on the previous text. What is the command or how do I clear/delete/remove the theG.drawStrings from the first AfterSelect from the treeview so the new drwstrings are clear.
What is the real mode , protected mode , supervisor mode and the hypervisor mode ?

I have also taken the code from the select statement and put it into the other 2 (replace the CliendGroupID = 3) and it works fine

I am trying to serialize object in method binary mode. However, I would like to get a file in human-unreadable format. which means i want to encrypt file. In my memory, if i want to write text into binary file in C, when I set writing mode as binary, I will get a file in human-unreadable format, but in .net, I can't get that.
View 4 RepliesWhen try to open in design mode a form (VB.NET), in which I have a custom UserControl, I see the message from Visual Studio:
Microsoft Visual Studio
The control MyNamespace.MyUserControl has thrown an unhandled exception in the designer and has been disabled.
Exception:
Cannot access a disposed object.
Object name: 'SplitterPanel'.
Stack trace:

And the form is not displayed in designer. What to do?
I'm wondering if there is any code that I could use in VB.net so it can determine the computer's startup mode (such as safe mode or safe mode with networking).
View 1 Repliesi am using visual studio 2005 on win 7 with office 2007. i have developed win application. i am using microsoft activex spreadsheet component in my program. so it automatically creates reference to AxInterop.OWC11.dll When i run program in debug mode (open program and click RUN in toolbar it works) but if i run directly .exe (go to bin elease doubleclick .exe) it give error at loading point of that component. It says "Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory has been corrupted." An unhandled exception occurrs.

I work for a shop that maintains a fairly new app. The app still has its fair share of bugs, with numerous tickets coming in daily. The error information we're given with those tickets is not as useful as it might be because the application was compiled in Release mode, which I read is smaller and faster (makes sense).
Are there any ramifications to deploying a .NET application to production that was compiled in Debug mode? I would expect it would be a bit slower, but I've read the difference is nominal. This would assure us that when we get errors on tickets we have line number associated with those errors and this, of course, makes debugging much easier. major red flags that would prevent you from doing this? I'm tasked with researching the possibility.
I have been working on this all day and still haven't had any luck at getting it to work. I am using the SqlDataReader Object to retrieve data. I am using the code below to send a value to the stored procedure. The problem is that the value is sent enclosed in quotes so I dont get any data back. I have tried using .text.replace("""","")
View 9 RepliesMy intentions are to add command line switching. I am trying to see if i could run my application in varoius ways i.e.
App.exe -S - Start the application in XX Mode
app.exe -T30 - Start application with 30 second delay
and that kinda switching.
im making a class.vb which has a sql connection. The class.vb will be used by all forms/windows on the application. So whenever a form needs to access the database, it will call class.vb.
This is the code in class.vb:
Public Sub Openconn()
Dim myConnection As SqlConnection
Dim connstring As String = "Data Source=192.162;Initial Catalog=db1;User Id=sa;Password=1;"
[code]....
but it gives error: value of type sqlconnection cannot converted to array of Sqlconnection.I just want a method that's useful for opening the connection and that is also useful when asigning to a command object.
I'm designing a web service in ASP.NET and VS2008, and am using typed datasets for retrieving table data. These work well and establish their own connections through their associated TableAdapter objects. Edit: I'm using VB, BTW!I am now attempting to run a custom SQL string using a DataAdapter and a Command object, however I need to reference a Connection object in order for the Command to work. What is the best way to handle this?hould I:a) Create a global connection object using Global.asax, retrieving the connection string from web.config? (I've been trying that one already, with not much success)b) Create a class-level connection object using the InitialiseComponent method, also retrieving the ConnectionString from web.config?c) Retrieve a Connection from one of the TableAdapters that I've already created in my typed DataSets?d) Something else I haven't thought of yet?
View 2 RepliesThis is applicable to C# and VB.Net. I am writing a console application, but one aspect of it I want to make representable in a GUI (that being downloads running, with progress bars). is it possible to write a console mode application that can also have a form in it that can be called from code inside the console component?

View 8 RepliesI'm helping a colleague develop a "catch all" type error handler for some controls his application. What he wants to do is pass the object that has the error, and the type of that object, such a TextBox or ComboBox, and then call the DirectCast method within his handler to properly address the Text attribute within it. In general, the method is looking like this:
Protected Sub SpecialErrorHandler(ByVal TargetControl As Object, ByVal ControlType As String)
MessageBox.Show("Bad Juice: " & DirectCast(TargetControl, ControlType(ObjType)).Text)
End Sub
So far any attempts to do a type conversion within the DirectCast method (since it is expecting an object in the general signature) or to even pass in the a Type object properly set is not working.
Any ideas here, or is this one of those "Casting doesn't work that way." type scenarios?

View 1 Repliesi wanna know for example if you have a few functions that actually creates a new sqlcommand in it and disposes them after use or is it better to have an sqlcommand at the main function and pass the sqlcommand in byref . and after using it.
