Sql Server - Insert Asp.net Membership-generated UserId Into Custom Table (vb)?

Nov 18, 2010

I've spent a couple of hours trying to find the answer to this, and although there are tutorials all over the 'net none of them work for me (or I am too n00b to understand what they're telling me.I'm creating users in asp.net using Membership. What I want to do is add the generated UserId to a column in a custom table I've created, to link the stuff in the custom table with the user created in aspnet_Users.

Can't Seem To Insert A Guid (userID) Into Table?

Feb 10, 2011

I'm creating a web project for one of my uni modules using Visual studio 2010. I'm using asp.net membership and have all of my sql-server tables set up correctly (I'm pretty sure).I have a form that I have created myself that inserts into the database using sqlDataSource.insert(). I had some problems initially with not being able to insert any data into the table at all, but I have cleared that up.My problem now is that I need to insert the currently logged in user's userID into one of the columns of the table. But every time I hit the submit button, I am told I cannot insert null values in the userID column.

I can retrieve the userID using this snippet:
Dim userID As String
Dim memUser As MembershipUser

Asp.net - Retrieve Current UserId And Insert Into Table?

Mar 16, 2012

Using the following code, a user inputs a date into a textbox control and then clicks a button. A new record is created in table [rms_Report] and then I retrieve the ID of the record that was just added. I pass this ID onto page "CreateReport.aspx" via a response.redirect and query string.

I need to retrieve the UserId of the currently logged in user and insert it into table [rms_Report]. I need this to occur after the new record is inserted, but obviously before the response.redirect. I know how to retrieve the UserId, but I'm not sure how to incorporate into the other code.

ASPX
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="ReportDataSource" runat="server"
OnInserted="ReportDataSource_Inserted"
ConflictDetection="CompareAllValues"

I created a server control which consist only of fews buttons.

Textbox That Pulls User Based On A Certain UserID From Table

Jun 25, 2010

I have one table here with a list of UserIDs, Users, and ClientCodes.Each user can be assigned a client code to view that client's data else where.Right now I have to change it for everyone via SQL Server and actually going into the table manually, but I'm trying to make a simple little program that will let the user change it themselves.All I need is a textbox that pulls the user based on a certain UserID from the table, and a drop down list that will not only show the current ClientCode they're set to, but allow me to change it and save that change to the table in the database.What's the best way to go about this? I tried using the wizards but I guess that's not the best way to go about it.I have it displaying the correct user and their current ClientCode but that's about it.

VS 2010 - How To Insert New Row Into SQL Server Table

May 8, 2012

I'm trying to insert a row into a SQL Server table.

Using this...
cmd.CommandText = "INSERT INTO MyTable (firstname, lastname) VALUES (@firstname, @lastname)"
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@firstname", "bob")
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@lastname", "jones")
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()

I get an error saying:
ERROR [42000] [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Must declare the scalar variable "@firstname".

But if I use this...
cmd.CommandText = "INSERT INTO MyTable (firstname, lastname) VALUES (?, ?)"
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@firstname", "bob")
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@lastname", "jones")
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
...it works fine. What do I need to do to make the first example work? I don't understand what the error message is telling me. How do I declare a "scalar variable"?

Database - Insert A DataTable With Existing Key To A SQL Server Table

Mar 18, 2010

I am working with VB.NET.. i have a DataTable called "QUESTION", containing 3 fields:

QuestionNumber (unique integer key)
QuestionText
QuestionType

In my SQL Server database I created a Table called "QUESTION" with the same fields.
QuestionNumber is defined as integer unique key, auto increment

Now, when i make a bulk copy to insert the DataTable into the SQL Server, the database overwrites my QuestionNumber from the DataTable and generates new ones (starting from 1 increment 1).

How do i have to change my database setup, that the original QuestionNumbers are copied into the database?

Insert The Selected Value Of A Combo Box Into A SQL Server 2000 Table?

Sep 10, 2009

Dim objDataAdapter1 As OleDbDataAdapter

This is where I call the code, in the procedure code of the application

cmdIns.Parameters.AddWithValue("@DELAY_CAUSE_1", glbDelayCause1)

and this is the parameter that I am calling.For some reason this method does not work. I get an error saying that it expects a parameter @DELAY_CAUSE_1 which is not supplied. I check my procedure code and everything is matching up. Am I missing something here? Sorry that I haven't provided more into but the short question is how do I add the value of a combobox that has been selected? I just want to enter the number of the value selected into the table. But the combobox list will display the string.

Custom Code Designer Generated?

Jan 20, 2011

but it's something I'm pretty consistently needing for the sake of my own sanity, so:If you add a Settings file to any project in Visual Studio, VS provides a GUI making it quick/easy to add a new Setting entry and assign it a Type; at that point the actual code-behind is automagically created with a variable and a property exposing that variable.Can we build our own designers to generate code this way, with a GUI allowing for those quick/easy variable/property assignments?
