I got no errors in the code now, but it doesn't seem to work. The only thing that works is when I try to list all the data. But when I try to narrow the data that is to be listed. I get no good results. Here is my code:
If ComboBox1.SelectedItem = "School" Then
Dim connectionString As String = "Data Source=SENBONZAKURASQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=testing;User ID=SenbonZakuraRew; Trusted_Connection=True;"
Dim selectCommand As String
[code]....
The code above is not the whole thing. I've omitted those that are not relevant. What do I do to make this work?

In VS 2008, VB.Net, I am successful connecting to a local SQL Server (version 8) and seeing all tables/views/procedures in Server Explorer. The local OS is Win XP Pro SP3. I created an ODBC data source to a remote SQL server (also version 8) with a database of the same structure as the local one. The connection tests out ok. The remote computer runs Windows Server 2000 SP4. In the VS 2008 Server Explorer I add this ODBC source. When I click on the plus-signs to expand items, neither the tables nor the views show anything, whereas the full list of procedures appears. Is it the old SQL Server version? Is it the old Server OS version? Something else alltogether?

This is what I'm sure will be the first of many noob-ish questions from yours truly... I'm studying as a mature student for a Computing Degree (encompassing web design, hardware, programming and systems analysis). The programming seems to be my weak spot this year. I enjoyed C++ last year, doing basic console applications, but progamming visually with VB in Visual Studio 2008 I'm struggling!
i have a app in visual basic mobile 2008, so i finish but now i need to tranfer the data generate in the in the app mobile to data base in sql server 2008.
I have added a list box and now i need help to display the data about my employees in the list box. How am i supposed to do that, do we have to put in codes or need to use that small arrow near the list box.
I'm an instructor trying to use data from a .txt file to list the grades in a list box. I just want to grab the data from a .txt file, list the total amount of grades in a list box, the mean (avg) and the standard deviation.
I want to know how you can export data from a disconnected database that could be access or ms sql to an sql server database.
Here is the scenario:
I have several software in a remote sites on either sql or ms access databases as back-ends...and I have another sql server database that i want to consolidate data from the remote sites.
One solution I have been thinking about is to use email to send incremental backups of the databases to the main database using a separate piece of software and have another one on the main server to pull that data into the database.
Basically am looking at setting up the remote databases as linked servers at the main database and then having incremental backups sent by email to the main database.
I have thought of replication but the internet link at the sites is terrible.
Is that a good implementation? If yes
How do i get to send the incremental backups and get them imported?(the code)
Tools:
Visual basic 2008 standard edition..Net 3.5 SQL Server 2005. 32 bit architecture.
how to add data from one list box to data from another list box to get a total. My application has to have three list boxes. One list box contains a list of workshops a user can take. Another contains a list of locations the user chooses from to take the workshops at. When the user clicks an Add Workshop button, the application should add the total cost of the selected workshop at the selected location in the third list box. My problem is that each workshop last a different amount of days and each location charges a per day fee. I'm not really sure how to add all of this information together to come up with the total workshop cost. I think I should use a Do While loop. Another problem is that after the total cost of the workshop is added the user should be able to click a total cost button and get the total cost for all workshops they have selected.
I have a text box which I search SQL server which returns to values based on the text I pass the SP and then I want to add to the list box items so here is my code below the DataTable contains the item I want to return in the list, I have used this syntax to populate a Datagrid with no problems.[code]
Just as the title states, can anyone point me to a list of all available asp.net server controls (preferably with descriptions)? I would have thought that something like this would be readily available but I've had no luck finding this. I almost always have to dig around to find a control to solve a particular problem, a quick reference would be really handy.
I need to get file list from a directory in a FTP server. This is my sample code.
Try Dim ftpWebReq As Net.FtpWebRequest = CType(Net.WebRequest.Create("ftp://webadd/Test"), Net.FtpWebRequest) ftpWebReq.Credentials = New Net.NetworkCredential("userid", "pwd")
I am trying to do something fairly simple.. allow my user to import thier data from Excel into SQL Server, where it can be used by the application. To do this, I'm using the fairly simple code that is common everywhere I look:
Now, on my development computer this code works perfectly. The data imports, and I can go on my merry way.
On the TEST computer, this code throws the error: "ODBC -- Connection to {SQL Server} servernamesqlservername failed." This seems very odd to me, because I'm using exactly the same SQL Server and database to interact with the application, and all the other screens in the application work perfectly. The test computer CAN connect to this SQL Server, but it keeps throwing this error whenever I try import data from Excel.I've tried everything I can think of - using the server's IP address instead of the server name, sending the SQL Server administrator data along with the request, taking out the Trusted_Connection=Yes... nothing works. What is going on here? How can this code work fine on my computer, and hiccup on another?
How can I get a list of available webservices from a server/directory?For example from:[URL]Which should at least give me ReportService2005.asmx I was wondering if there wasn't a ReportService2008.asmx
I am using VB.NET in VS 2008 Professional. I wish to have my user select the server where the SQL Database resides. I can get a list of the SQL databases, but I am stuck on how to display the servers currently available to the user? I want to add the list of servers available into a list box and have them select the server.
The thing I am trying to duplicate is the drop down list of server names when you are doing an Add Connection from the Data Connections node of the Server Explorer.
How can I get the filenames in a folder on FPT server. These must then view a listview will be shown (listview1) How can I obtain the names of the folders in a folder on the FTP server. These must be in a listview view to allow (listview2)

I am working on a project and I want to have a list box with a custom data template populate with user data. My question is, when I click on an item in the list box, how can I tell what item I selected? Basically, if I select "kevin", I want to display his data. If I select Dave, I want to display his data. I do not know how to get the data our after it is bound...
I want it so every time I click an ITEM in the Listbox it displays ALL the data into the textbox. I know there's an easy way using table adapters and binding the listbox, but I'd prefer to do it this way for my project.
I have a small program which is a tcp client. I send a string from this client to a device over ethernet (it acts as the tcp server). As soon as the device recieves the input string it will respond back with response data. My problem is i am not getting the entire response data back from the server. (device).
Dim serverStream As NetworkStream = clientSocket2.GetStream() Dim outStream As Byte() = System.Text.Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("my-cmd") serverStream.Write(outStream, 0, outStream.Length)
I'm working with Windows Forms - VB.NET.Here's what I have:
A ListView with checkboxes set to True A Button (triggers the update) A database table with similar fields as the ListView
What I want to happen:when the user clicks the Button, all items on the ListView with checkbox checked will be updated. My progress:I've already collected the ID of the checked items and stored them in an array. I'll be using this to update the database table.I don't know how to put them in the SqlCommand.Parameters Also, I don't know the update command for such scenario (where in/exist (@parameters))
