View 2 RepliesI'm using this code to retrieve the list of files from a FTP server
Dim request As FtpWebRequest = WebRequest.Create("[URL]")
request.Credentials = New NetworkCredential(username, password)
request.Method = WebRequestMethods.Ftp.ListDirectoryDetails
Dim response As FtpWebResponse = request.GetResponse()
Dim responseStream As Stream = response.GetResponseStream()
Dim reader As StreamReader = New StreamReader(responseStream)
messagebox.show (reader.ReadLine)
It gives me alot of information that I dont need, I know that I can use:
request.Method = WebRequestMethods.Ftp.ListDirectory
Which only retrieves the file name but when I try to change it, it gives me an error. Error number 550. ListDirectory so I can only get the file name?
In VS 2008, VB.Net, I am successful connecting to a local SQL Server (version 8) and seeing all tables/views/procedures in Server Explorer. The local OS is Win XP Pro SP3. I created an ODBC data source to a remote SQL server (also version 8) with a database of the same structure as the local one. The connection tests out ok. The remote computer runs Windows Server 2000 SP4. In the VS 2008 Server Explorer I add this ODBC source. When I click on the plus-signs to expand items, neither the tables nor the views show anything, whereas the full list of procedures appears. Is it the old SQL Server version? Is it the old Server OS version? Something else alltogether?

I am trying to create a program which will read the files that exist in a directory, and then write in a text file the specific information (full file name, date created)i have found several code in the site but i cant make it work, the machine i am running the code is XP and i am using VB2008.The code i have found is the following:

I have a SQL Server table with a list of files (path + filename), and a folder with multiple layers and files in each layer. I'm looking for a way to reconcile the two without having to process the list twice. Currently, I'm doing this:
For Each f as FileInfo In FileListFromDatabase
If f.Exists is False, mark it as deleted in the database
Next
[Code]....
Is there a better way to do this? I'd like to avoid converting all the matching files (of which most will be) to FileInfo objects twice. Since I'm a T-SQL developer first, I'm picturing something like an OUTER JOIN of the two lists where they don't match. Something LINQ-ish?
How to list all files in a folder including subfolder files.
View 9 Repliesi have this right now:
ListBox1.Items.Clear()
Dim di As New IO.DirectoryInfo(TextBox1.Text)
Dim aryFi As IO.FileInfo() = di.GetFiles("*.*")[code]......
and that displays only the file name, like text.txt but i want it to display C:/Text.txt and all the files in the subfolders too, like C:/Program Files/Test2.txt but i just get test.txt from only the c:/ .
Scenario: I want to develop an application.The application should be able to connect to my remote server and download data to the local disk , while downloading it should check for new files and only download the new ones simultaneously creating the required(new) folders.
Problem: I have no idea how to compare the files in the server with the ones in the local disk.How to download only the new files from the server to the local disk?
What am thinking?: I want to sync the files in the local machine with the ones in the server. I am planning to use rsync for syncing but i have no idea how to use it with ASP.NET.
I am using vs 2010 web..I want to know that:how to upload only modified files/file to server instead of upload full project.if a made a small change in a aspx file and want to see how it look like live . then vs 2010 upload each time all pages/files to server and it take time.
View 1 RepliesI'm doing a project where we are re-creating a very old system.The client wants the same base functionality and some improvements.One of the things I'm currently working on is the note-system. These are used as flags of some sort, but are also used as a comment field for some products or client profiles.In the old system you could write the text and save it like you would get in a .txt file. They want the new one to be able to do word formatting such as:
Different font sizes (Only some parts of the text)
Different font colours (Only some parts of the text)
Underlining of words
Bolding
Italics
Tab-spaces
Those are the specs they want. What I need to know is the following:
1) How do I do that?
2) Currently they store all these files on the server as text files and the database have paths that refers to each file. I want to be able to save a text file with that formatting to the HDD of the server like in the old system.
3) If possible I would like to save that text to the database with the formatting.
I am using the following code to copy files from one folder to another...

View 2 RepliesJust as the title states, can anyone point me to a list of all available asp.net server controls (preferably with descriptions)? I would have thought that something like this would be readily available but I've had no luck finding this. I almost always have to dig around to find a control to solve a particular problem, a quick reference would be really handy.
View 1 RepliesI need to get file list from a directory in a FTP server. This is my sample code.
Try
Dim ftpWebReq As Net.FtpWebRequest = CType(Net.WebRequest.Create("ftp://webadd/Test"), Net.FtpWebRequest)
ftpWebReq.Credentials = New Net.NetworkCredential("userid", "pwd")

I got no errors in the code now, but it doesn't seem to work. The only thing that works is when I try to list all the data.But when I try to narrow the data that is to be listed. I get no good results. Here is my code:
If ComboBox1.SelectedItem = "School" Then
Dim connectionString As String = "Data Source=SENBONZAKURASQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=testing;User ID=SenbonZakuraRew; Trusted_Connection=True;"
Dim selectCommand As String
[code]....
The code above is not the whole thing. I've omitted those that are not relevant. What do I do to make this work?
I am building help files for a program using HTML Help Workshop.I have been trying to manually add files to the project file list as I write them, as HHW doesn't do so automatically.But it doesn't seem to matter whether the files are included in the list or not.When I compile, it tells me if any are duplicated, but it doesn't tell me if any are missing.(I have deliberately removed some to see if it makes a difference, so it's not that I haven't left any out.) And, whether they are in the list or not, the compiled help seems to find the files it needs.What is this list of files for?What files need to be included in it - html, css, images, maps? Why doesn't it seem to matter if my files are included in it or not? Is there any way to add files to the list other than one at a time? (e.g specify an entire folder?
View 4 Repliesi have a plain text document uploaded to my website. The text document contains links to files that need to be downloaded for my application as an update ( i have yet to figure out how to make my own installer so i am making my own updater which is MUCH simpler). Each link has its own line. I understand how to load the file into a RichTextBox with vb.net but i do not understand how to tell one button to download each file listed.[code]

View 4 RepliesI want to get a complete list of all files on a disk, if i write code to list files in a folder, the web gives lots of examples how to do it, and for a folder (including sub folders) of tens of thousands of files, they all work. however, my disk has 250,000 files and i cannot make any method work.The My.Computer.FileSystem.GetFiles(FolderBrowserDialog1.SelectedPath, FileIO.SearchOption.SearchAllSubDirectories, "*.*") method runs for an hour and then crashes.the Directory.GetFiles(path,searchPattern, searchOption) throws an exception when it reached the system volume information directory.

I'm working on a project, basically writing a small application intended to allow the user to open files from a specific directory, edit them without saving (through a RTE), then export the edited content to a word document using bookmarks.Part of this program I would truly like to add would be a list box displaying the name of files in a specific directory - and for the user to be able to click on each file name in the list box, and for the file contents to display within my RTE.
View 11 RepliesA customer of mine wants to list all the files in a particular folder in excel. It seems like a fairly simple idea and i have tried one set of code but it takes forever to run (15-20 mins). There must be a simple way of running some kind of vb procedure to get a list of files and stick it in a csv/xls file.
