Stop A Form Resizing If The User Has A Larger System Font Enabled?

Jul 28, 2009

I have a windows form that has custom alpha blended controls and a Graphical User Interface. One of my users has a larger system display enabled (125%) and the application expands by 25%. Is it possible to stop this happening and have the application stay at the normal size that I developed it at?

Stop The Form From Resizing?

May 13, 2010

I used to use the following instructions to lock my form from stretching.

Me.MaximumSize = New Size(550, 550)
Me.MinimumSize = New Size(550, 550)

Then I needed to keep the Form size fixed so I used:

Me.ClientSize = New Size(625, 500)

This makes it stretchable.How can I lock the Form from re-sizing?

VS 2010 DataGridView Font Not Resizing?

Apr 27, 2012

I've set every setting I could find on the DataGridView to a specific font size however when the form it resides on loads I step through the code and put my cursor over the DataGridView1.Font.Size and it always shows 8.25 (I've set everything to 18).

What I'm trying to do is resize the DGV on load of the form to a percentage based on the size of the form relative to the size of the screen. Everything else on all of my other forms are resizing correctly but the DGV is not.

Here is the designer generated code for property reference:

vb.net
'DataGridView1

Me.DataGridView1.AllowUserToAddRows = False

Form Height Limit, Make The Form Larger Than The Screen And Allow For Scrolling Down?

Nov 17, 2011

I have read that VB .NET in earlier versions limited the FORM size to that of the development machine screen resolution.I am hoping that there is a way in the current VB 2010 to get around that.However in my attempts to make the form larger, it always resets itself to the screen height on my develoment machine.Is there a way to get around this and have the person be able to use a scroll bar to move down?The data I wish to show actually has two screens worth of information but the stuff in the scroll down section would be used on a limitied basis so scrolling will be useful rather than having to recreat the screen to show less data at one time.

Strategy To Override Enabled Property Of A User Control?

Aug 5, 2009

I have a usercontrol with a picturebox and a few buttons related to it, such as LoadFromFile, Paste and Zoom (that last one pops up a new form). Is there a way to override the basic Enabled property of the usercontrol so that I can keep the Zoom button active all the time, while turning off the other buttons?

I realize there are 2 "obvious" replies. don't do Enabled=False, create a custom method. do everything in the one form, not a usercontrol, so you can pick and choose disabling. Both are less than ideal, given that I'm putting this control into a couple of existing forms, so I'd like to work around how those forms already behave. So is there a way to override the behavior of my usercontrol when it gets disabled? What would be my best strategy?

VS 2010 Stop A Block Of Code Executing When User Clicks "Stop"?

Mar 1, 2011

I have a START and STOP button and when the user clicks "start" the program does a whole bunch of calculations and all. However, I noticed that when I was testing the program I clicked STOP the program continues to execute stuff.

My START code is basically a while loop that iteratively does some calculations.

So I just put a boolean variable as the while condition and when user clicks stop its set to false and when user clicks start its set to true. However, when I click stop, the condition is set to false yes but it still executes all the code until the condition is re-evaluated right...so my question is how can I get out of the while loop when user instantly clicks "stop"?

Box - Conversion Error - User Enters 6 Numbers In 6 Different Text Boxes - Displays The Larger Of Those 6 Numbers

Oct 4, 2011

I am making a program, where the user enters 6 numbers in 6 different text boxes, and it displays the larger of those 6 numbers. But I also want to make it where if the user enters a string value (like S for instance) in the text boxes, it gives an message and says "please enter the numbers again" and the user gets to enter the 6 numbers again. But when I do try to do that, it gives an error message saying conversion from "w/e the user entered" to Double is not valid. If the user just enters the numbers, it works fine. However, I am trying to make it if the user does enter non numeric value, it gives a message window and the user can reenter the numbers again.

Here is my code Example

CODE:

This is where I am trying to use IsNumeric to show a message if a user does not enter a string so the user can renter the numbers again, but when the user does enter a string value (say in textbox 1) it gives me an error message saying conversion from "S" to 'double' is not valid.

CODE:

Then right here this is where I have my series of ifs statements, this part works fine, it displays the largest numbers of the 6 textboxes every time. Error free.

CODE:

And do this with variable number 2, 3, 4, 5.

I know there are easier ways to do these with arrays and stuff. But I am not there yet. I am still learning about ifs and stuff.

Show User Form On A System Service Event Via IPC Remoting?

I am struggling with this issue for serveral days now.My application needs to work like wsus (windows updates) does. On a certain event triggered by a windows service working under SYSTEM account it needs to show a (second) form under the user context.The IPC Remoting works fine so I think my issue is in the threading.When I use form2.Show() form2 appears but the form freezes.When I use form2.ShowDialog() the form appears but I cannot get the focus on it.

Service running under system account (in this example a simple console application)

Code:Imports ClassLibrary1Module Serv

Check If Form Is Enabled On Resize Event?

Jun 21, 2010

In my application I have more then one form/dialogs, of course. My start up (main) form is called "StartForm" and when I want to access to some other dialogs, I open up dialog and I put StartForm on ".Enabled = False" so that user can't access to that form even if he click somewhere on it (StartForm is maximized to full screen and dialogs are small so StartForm can be seen in background when you open dialog). Ok, this works fine until I click on my application "link" in task bar...then, only my StartForm is visible and it's ".Enabled = False" so I can't do anything...I must kill process in task manager. Same thing happens when I open some other application and then come back to my application.
