Have A "HALT" Button On Form That Will Stop The Test If The User Decides To?
Jan 12, 2009
I have a test that can run for many days depending on some oven controls, etc. I would like to have a "HALT" button on my form that will stop the test if the user decides to.For example, lets say my "btnRunSomething" click event fired and I'm looping in there for a long time. When the "btnHalt" click event is raised, how can I stop the "btnRunSomething" sub's execution? After stopping execution, I will close the connection string to the oven as well and dispose of everything properly.

I want to create a custom form (in visual basic .NET) that will stop other process responsiveness until the form is acknowledged. It would be a nice bonus if I can add a beep when trying to access the main program UI while this form is displayed as well (like how a messagebox does).

Alright, so I'm still working on the slot machine. I have three timers all independently going for my three "wheels" of the slot machine.
My issue, is that I'm trying to make a Stop button to stop each timer one at a time, and I'm not understanding why this code isn't working. The logic completely makes sense, and the first "wheel" stops when I click the button, however, it doesnt appear to stop the other two timers.

I was developing my own project in the university so what i am stack is to have save button which firstly validates what the user enters the form. for instance if the user skips the text fields, i wanted to restrict the user to fill all the form and when he completes, the save must be accomplished.
Here's the code i was trying to put but i was having problem saying the windows.forms.etc is unable to convert the save as Boolean and something like that.
Dim success As Boolean
Private Sub Save_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Save.Click

I created a form and have the variable inputs for 4 motor run statements. Then with a start button the script starts and it is surrounded by a for next statement to loop 10 times. It works fine but if i need to stop the execution of the script with a stop button. I put the stop in a new section but of course does not work to do a motor stop. It just causes the exe to not respond till the loop is complete. Just need to be able to stop the Run1_Click button section.
Edit:I do not mind if it finishes the 4 motor run commands and then stops execution of the loop. So need to figure out a way to trigger a stop from a button on the form to stop the cycle. For the future the loop will be a variable integer input so 10 will not be the standard.
Edit::Does a ' Do ' statement sound like the thing to use? If so how and where would I place that? Have a Stop button on the form and it would stop after the 4th motor run command.
#End Region

On each of my form I have put an 'Exit' button. When user clicks it, another form is displayed (I don't want to use 'MessageBox') asking user whether he really wants to quit. If user clicks yes the form closes. If user clicks no, form is redisplayed.
However, out of 4 forms only one form refuses to redisplay. The code is exactly same on all forms. I have included 2 Express 2008 projects showing one form each in the zip file apps-ssk.zip

I have a START and STOP button and when the user clicks "start" the program does a whole bunch of calculations and all. However, I noticed that when I was testing the program I clicked STOP the program continues to execute stuff.
My START code is basically a while loop that iteratively does some calculations.
So I just put a boolean variable as the while condition and when user clicks stop its set to false and when user clicks start its set to true. However, when I click stop, the condition is set to false yes but it still executes all the code until the condition is re-evaluated right...so my question is how can I get out of the while loop when user instantly clicks "stop"?

Is it possible for a user to create a new button on the form, and for them to add their own custom code to it (lets say it's a custom toolbar with items)? I'm asking this because I'd like to have some way of creating add-inns for my webbrowser. I wouldn't be surprised if it's impossible in VB, but Firefox can do it, so I guess it's worth a try...

I have a form that you can type in a four digit code and press enter and will will run some code on a database. The problem occurs when a user click their 4 digit ID number and then click enter, the next user then comes up, types their 4 digit ID on the number pad and when they press enter it runs the code twice (this is due to the fact that the enter button has focus, meaning i intercept the enter, run my code, then the button runs that same code)

I have a simple .NET 3.5 app for changing some database fields using an ODBCDataSet. Now the Feature Creep is asking if I can hide or show tabs and other controls based on the user's database permissions. Ideally, I would like to control the permissions only on the SQL Server using Windows user groups, and the app would not have any built-in authentication or permission system--it simply uses the logged-in user's Windows account for the database connection. So thus it would have to "test" the permissions to determine whether or not to show the tabs for the user. For example, if they have "write" permissions to a certain table, then the tab for editing it would be visible; if not, the tab never loads for them. How can I list or test the user's permissions to the ODBCDataSet?

I am writing a program with a loading bar. I also have a label that says what the program is currently loading (Eg. 'Generating Numbers...', 'Determining Winners...').
It all works fine, but the label sometimes doesn't change or doesn't even appear because the program is too busy processing all the other stuff. I hope that makes sense...
Is there any way to centralize processing on the label and progress bar at times?

I've messed with something such that I can no longer prevent the dialog from closing when the user clicks the Ok button but has entered invalid information.
Here is the handler for the OK button's click event:

I was wondering if somone one could point me in the right direction on this.Basically I am making a proxy testing program. A user can supply a list of proxies to test. What i want to be able to do is have them be able to specify how many threads they want to run. Then have the program go through the list testing each one using the amount of threads supplied. Really not sure even where to start on this. Threadpooling?

[Code]....
I add a button to a form each time the user clicks a menu option as:
[Code]....
This draws a small blue line at the bottom of the button to show it is highlighted. Just like the mouseoverbackcolor property on a button except this will draw the line. It works fine until you slide the mouse very fast between the buttons. It is as if the mouseleave event doesnt always fire.
