I believe the connection string is also called app.config, and can see that in the Solution Explorer for the project.All I have managed to do is drag a button onto my main form and relabel it. View 2 RepliesI am busy with a Windows Forms application.The purpose of the application is to convert Excel documents to HTML format so that they can be published to a website.I have most of the code finished and the application is looking really good.I have although encountered a problem. On the Form I have created an Export, File and Edit button.With the edit button I would like the user to be able to select whether they would like to save the 1st,2nd,3rd sheet and so forth.
I would like to create a window/Form within the edit button that would say something like "select excel sheet" along with a save button where the required sheet number could be saved or selected as a standard save procedure everytime.I know that I need to do this with the settings.settings control. I have tried numerous ideas up until now but it continues to baffle me.
I'm trying to create a Library System in VB 2010 which is connected to a 2007 MS Access Database manually. I was successful to create a "Search" button where it displays content from the database based on the user's entries on several text boxes.
The result is shown on a Data Grid which I set to allow Editing on it. My problem now is I can't find a way to create an "Edit" button. My idea is basically allow the user to search, let the result be shown on the data grid, edit the data grid, and click the Edit button to save the updated records back to the database.
My question is it possible to create such button? Here is the code that I use to connect to the data base for the Search button.

I'm asking this because I'd like to have some way of creating add-inns for my webbrowser. I wouldn't be surprised if it's impossible in VB, but Firefox can do it, so I guess it's worth a try...
View 1 RepliesI have an App where I'd like to be able to edit any type (font, colour, point etc.) at run time and use any of the .Net default type editors. (e.g., font/ colour picker).
Rather than re-invent the wheel, I decided to use the property grid control.
If I pass an object of, say font, to the grid, it lists all the fields separately, with no option to open the font picker.[code]...
Would it be possible to add a .exe to my resources and when the user clicks a button on the form it will create a directory ( C:My apps ).then add the .exe from my resources and launch the .exe from that folder.

In my program when a user hits the Edit Command button I would like for the program to display a popup Textbox where he/she can input data and store it. Then the data will be linked to the comments box, once the user hits the save button. Also the popup textbox disappears after the user is done entering the data.
View 8 RepliesI have used VB (versions 2 - 6) through many years; however, I am crash-course training myself into the VB2008 / VB2010 world kicking a screaming. I would like suggestions as to what SQL database access method should I focus more on in my learning process without making me feel that I'm a million years behind. I know I have WinForms where I can create a datasourse and drag / drop fields or tables on a form to create a grid (not really what I'm looking for).
My trouble isn't so much designing the form but in how I access the database. Theres XML, LINQ to SQL, ADO.NET, and many other methods. Not only do I need to grasp these methods quickly but I also need to know what type of projects I should create. What I mean is...I was thinking that I would design a WinForm app; however, I see that there are WPF apps and others to chose from. This is getting deep. I know it depends on the project that I'm working on. My plans are to write an app based off of either an SQL Express 2008 or SQL Server 2008 database. This first app will be standalone for now but may later become multi-user. I know I'm far behind on my learning curve coming from VB6. I have read a bit on VB2005 / 2008 / 2010. I own
both VB2008 and VB2010. I use VB2008 at work. I know ADO.NET is still alive but by what I read online, it's a dying method and is only kept for backward compatibility. XML and LINQ to SQL and other methods are all pretty new to me.

View 6 RepliesAt work we have a pretty large web application that works by having a few pages, with lots of user controls which are nested in these pages. This is working fine most of the time but we have a problem at the moment where one of the user controls isnt working. Originally it was referenced from another project in the solution but when this wasnt working I decided to copy the file into the project and try to register it locally. It works on our development system, its only when we move it to deployment that it stops working, and I'm thinking it's something that I'm missing in the build. When you go to the page on Live the control is just missing, and no errors are generated.

Working on a personal project to help with my sons spelling.Textbox 1 will hold the correctly spelled word. Textbox 2 will be typed BUT I want the background of textbox2 to change green if he is on track but turn red when he messes up on a letter. Basically I need the two boxes to be validated each time he presses a key. I can do the box to box when complete but the trick I am having is how to I have them check as he is typing?

I have a form that adds new contacts. New contacts are added by pressing an appropriate button and they appear as an entry in the list on the form. I try now to add an edit button that will edit existing entries.User will select a given entry on the list and press edit button and will be presented with an appropriate form (AddContFrm).Right now it simply adds another entry with the same title. I'm nearly finished making a blackjack game for my first year assignment in college using Visual Basic. The game is running ok, I'm happy with that but I am having one small issue! In the frmMain I have a counter set up so it counts and displays the number of games won and lost. From the drop down menu in the frmMain I have a Statistics option which opens another Form which I want to display the stats from the frmMain....How do I view the result on a different form?!?
