TQ so much.. and the field in that top column data grid is..
I have used VB (versions 2 - 6) through many years; however, I am crash-course training myself into the VB2008 / VB2010 world kicking a screaming. I would like suggestions as to what SQL database access method should I focus more on in my learning process without making me feel that I'm a million years behind. I know I have WinForms where I can create a datasourse and drag / drop fields or tables on a form to create a grid (not really what I'm looking for).
My trouble isn't so much designing the form but in how I access the database. Theres XML, LINQ to SQL, ADO.NET, and many other methods. Not only do I need to grasp these methods quickly but I also need to know what type of projects I should create. What I mean is...I was thinking that I would design a WinForm app; however, I see that there are WPF apps and others to chose from. This is getting deep. I know it depends on the project that I'm working on. My plans are to write an app based off of either an SQL Express 2008 or SQL Server 2008 database. This first app will be standalone for now but may later become multi-user. I know I'm far behind on my learning curve coming from VB6. I have read a bit on VB2005 / 2008 / 2010. I own both VB2008 and VB2010. I use VB2008 at work. I know ADO.NET is still alive but by what I read online, it's a dying method and is only kept for backward compatibility. XML and LINQ to SQL and other methods are all pretty new to me.

I am trying to sort a form datagrid alphabetically by the column titled Name. Here is code I am trying. This is my first attemp at programming other than VBA.Public Class Agents
Private Sub Agents_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load 'TODO: This line of code loads data into the 'AgentsDataSet.Agents' table. You can move,
I'd like to take information from a text file I 've created so as each line in the file corresponds to one cell in a row in a grid using DataGridView. I'm having trouble doing that.[code]....
Can a data grid in another open form be refreshed by calling a sub routine? This app has a form with 2 data grids. When the user double click on one of the grids another form is opened that shows data details. After the user changes the details the user clicks a save button. We have placed this code in the Closing event of the the details form.
Private Sub FormParents_FormClosing(sender As System.Object, e As System.Windows.Forms.FormClosingEventArgs) Handles MyBase.FormClosing FormParentsAndStudents.RefreshDataGrids() End Sub
[Code]...
Can you tell us what additional coding is needed to refresh this data or if we are using the incorrect place to call this code from within the details form?
This is a VB .NET application where we are showing the output of a SQL statement in a Datagrid view. using .NET 2005.We need to get the seperators of the headers on the grid control to be the same colors as the GridColor on the form. See the picture below:We've tried looking through all of the properties of the DataGridView control, and found some interesting things that looked promising such as the DataGridViewAdvancedHeaderStyle, and DataGridViewHeaderBorderStyle, but none of it seems to allow you to change the colors on it.Does anyone know how to do this without remaking the entire thing with a GDI+ control?
I have a FlexGrid control in my Windows application that contains a row of data. The data in this row is related to even more data that won't all fit on the same row. For Example:The main data row contains Username, Last Name, First Name, Middle Name, E-mail Address, Phone Number, etcA secondary row to this might contain user permissions to certain resources, such as File Server Access, FTP Access, Remote Access, etc. Now, I can use the subtotal and outline capabilities of the VSFlexGrid to make a second row, but the column widths are still bound by those set for the main data row. Additionally, I can't put real "headers" on the supplemental data. I have to fake it by creating an additional row, setting the background color of that row to gray, putting the header strings into those fields, and then adding the next row with the actual details.
What I would like to do is create separate grids for these secondary rows and "embed" them in a blank row of the existing FlexGrid control directly under the related main data row. This would give me the ability to use a different number of columns, to format these columns independently of the "parent" FlexGrid settings, as well as put a new header row for the new grid that identifies its data.In other words, I'd like to somehow make a "child" grid that's related to a particular row of the "parent" grid (not the entire grid itself). I don't know if this is possible, and if there is another way for me to accomplish this goal, I'm all ears. However, if it IS possible, I'd love some advice on how to implement it.
I have the below code that i am trying to have two datagrids with a grid splityter in the middle. The split seems to be working fine but the issue i am having is when I populate the datagrid it is growing in height and changing the splitter instead of leaving the height alone and adding scroll bars.
What simple thing am I overlooking? <Grid x:Name="gdHistory" Grid.Column="0" Grid.Row="2" > <Grid.RowDefinitions>
In my project, form_double Click and Form_Maximize is not working when i do break point. Its not Button_Click, Form_Load. I want to do like this. "My project design form grid column size is small when form load and want to be large grid column size when the form is maximize."
I have a problem with importing an excel into a data grid.
Here is my code:
Try Dim _Obj As New ExcelConnection.ExcelConnection _Obj.ImportAttendence("c:Info_pc.xls", DataGrid1) Catch ex As Exception
End Try
In the excel i have numers and text and "Service Pack", "Processor Speed" and "Numar procesoare(Number of processors)" and the values for these are numers. in the data grid when i import the excel those values doesn't appear, i receive the value "null".
Currently we are using a VB script macro created in word to create some fairly simple forms based off of data entered on a data entry form. I am very new to VB, and I have been able to create many applications using forms, but I have absolutely no history creating reports. I have been reading up on the reports, and it looks like they are designed to use with data sources like tables. I merely want to take either data from the entry form, or from data derived internaly from processing the user entered data and populate a defined report "form". I have been searching, but there is so much on printing reports, that I feel overwhelmed. I am not looking for the exact answer as much as a link or place to look for a sample for what I want to do.
I have 1 datagridview and i want to transfer all records to another datagridview, how can i possibly do that. Newbie here. This is my code in transferring 1 record to another datagridview to another one.
I am trying have a data grid selection populate a form. I am new to this.Basically I have a connection persistance object and I would like to call that and call a stored procedure with the value of the selection. The datagrid is bound to an object.
i have datagridview populated with stock code, name and description. And i have docked my datagridview to the bottom. so whenever the form is resized, the bottom section will be occupied completely with the datagridview. But i want to display one extra empty column and multiple empty rows to completely fill in the datagridview. The extra empty column width will be adjusted to the right end side of datagridview. And the no of empty rows will be generated based on how many is required to fill up to the bottomSo that i can create datagridview with full column and row even though some columns or rows are empty.
I working on a program that I am trying to create a customer data form.Along with the form I have their vehicles related to that record. Now I have setup a dataset in the form.I am pulling data from the database, however when I enter a new record on the customer part the customerID is in the running order, everything seems to be working on in this table. But when I create a vehicle for this customer I have a running vehicle id.Example: I have in the database 4 customers.IDs 1,2,3,4 customer 1 has vehicle ID1,2.customer 5 has a car there 1st car but the database gives is a ID of 3.I want this customer to ID 1 for car one.My problem might be because it was set in the database as Unique Identifier.Maybe I should make the license plate the unique identifier.
Using this tutorial How Do I: Create a One-to-Many Data Entry Form? as a reference Suppose I have a parameter query called FillByStatus in my "Customer" DataTable and I want to fill the CustomerTableAdapter On Form_Load using this query. So I can do that by using the following
Private Sub Form2_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) _ Handles MyBase.Load Me.OrdersTableAdapter.Fill(Me.CustomerOrdersDataSet.Orders) Me.CustomerTableAdapter.FillByStatus(Me.CustomerOrdersDataSet.Customer, "Active") End Sub However, when I do that my related DataGridView (orders) is empty, how do I make it so that doesn't happen?
I just want to display data in a DataGridView (from SQL - already made the connection) based on what is selected in a ComboBox (data that is also coming from SQL). The 2 are separete on the form. I am using VB 2010.
This doesn't work for me: objCommand2.CommandText = "SELECT ProductID, Name, Color, Size, ListPrice FROM SalesLT.Product WHERE ProductCategoryID = " & cbCategory.SelectedValue
I'm trying to create a simple Data Grid that will automatically save changes. So far I have a data grid connected to a MS Access 2007 Database that reads the data. I can create new fields in the Data Grid, but I need to program to save the data automatically to the database on update (or on close).
