Changing Lines According To User Input In Text File

Lets say I have 20 lines like this. I want to change this lines according to user input. So user will input how many lines they want to change in terms of row and column. In my program
Row=TextBox5.Text column=TextBox6.text
User must enter initial value for x and y. Let say the initial value is
x=1 y=1.
Row=2 column=5..
Now my lines should look like this.
1 1
2 1
3 1
4 1
5 1
1 2
2 2
3 2
4 2
5 2
x y
x y
x y
x y
x y
x y
x y
x y
x y
x y
Since I enter row=2 only two set of lines is change other lines remain unchange. But in my coding all the lines is changing like this:

4 1
5 1
1 2
2 2
3 2
4 2
5 2
1 3
2 3
3 3
4 3
5 3
1 4
2 4
3 4
4 4
5 5
which is wrong.

Jun 21, 2010i would like to ask is there anyway to read a txt file with UTF-8 encoding using streamreader or filestream. the txt file is contain some extended ASCII that makes me cannot read the characters properly. I hav tried Encoding.ASCII.GetString(Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes()) but still it return wrong character when it's reading extended ASCII code.

When the button is pressed the line is written to the file just fine, but if I restart my application, which calls Refresh_OtherLog() onLoad, it displays the lines of the text file as one line with the traditional square character depicting a character return. Why is it not putting that new lone as a new line in the listbox?

Oct 23, 2011however, I am stuck at BinaryReader.actually this is what i am trying to acheive through VB.NET.say for the following file type :
JPG file = FF D8 FF E0
BMP file = 42 4D BE 4E
PNG file = 89 50 4E 47
GIF file = 47 49 46 38
the above are the 4-byte headers in Hex(raw) I need to read these headers of any given file using OpenFileDialog using Button1_click event,on selection of any given file(*.* filters ON)it should use the BinaryReader and look for only 4-bytes starting from offset 0, and it should not go to EOF marker (-1).and have a variable to hold this 4-byte header value, to run this in a database table which will check the same header value in the table and would display the corresponding extension of the file. from the table.
I can do this using case, if then...etc.however, I have to do it using Database and also i need to check for testing purpose to use MsgBox() to display this variable which is holding the 4-byte header.however, the MsgBox doesnt allow anything other than String.
PS: I tried studying the methods like:
FileOpen/Seek/Peek/ReadBytes().
but still not sure how to get them work.

Alternativley, there is another component to the zipping dll that I could probably bypass the above altogether. It is: FZ.CreateZip(DestFile, SourceFolder, True, "", "") Where DestFile is (Output stream as system.io.stream). I'm trying to read all the files, directories, sub dir and files, etc from a specific location, let's say 'My Documents' into Destfile in which the FZ.CreateZip zips the file. FZ is FastZip which is from icsharpcode.net. They have c# examples, but that's greek to me. I'm trying to just learn VB!

When the button is clicked, VB needs to find the appropriate stock, and then change the current price.The data needs to be pulled from the text file into a temporary file, changed, then the temp file needs to be renamed to the original file name and the original file deleted.This is the only part of the program I can not figure out. May 29, 2011i am making a game in which the file stream gets a certain file(lets say a.txt) and it reads it, if it has certain values stored in the file it returns boolean(this is a function), then a sub procedure writes to the file using a streamwriter and a filestream using the same file. I am having problems, sometimes visual basic says that another process is using the file, this is before i closed the filestreams and the streamwriter or streamreader, then it gives me errors when i close the files, it tells me that it can't access a file that is already closed, i thought the filestream gets the file and lets the streamreader or streamwriter read or write to the filefound out the problem?
