Text File And Then Taking The Values From The Text File And Inputting
Dec 3, 2011
reading a text file and then taking the values from the text file and inputting them in an Access database. I don't know how to do most of it, but I decided to start by reading the text file. However, whenever I click the button to read the file, I keep running into my catch error exception. Help!
Here is the Private Sub ImportButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ImportButton.Click
Dim CustomerStreamReader As StreamReader = New StreamReader(InputOpenFileDialog.FileName)
Dim vCustomerString As String
I have to save the text boxe values of a form to a text file almost like a data record. I will be saving an Employee First Name, Last Name, Dept Number, and Phone Number. This I know how to do using streamwriter.
next form which we have to use stream reader to load one record at a time. The form has a next button to load the next record. How do I seperate each record (I am sorry for calling it a record if this is inappropriate) when use streamreader and how do I load a record at a time.
I know how to open a file and use streamreader, I just don't know how to read one record at a time and move to the next one.
I have one combobox, two buttons (Add and View) and listbox. When I click button Add text from combobox is added to text file. This is code for Add button:
I have a login form that consists of 2 text boxes: txtUser, txtPass. Now these are not bound to any data table & I don't what them to be bound. When a new user enters his user name & password, I want to add these on a data table that has two columns: User, Pass. Data table information: Data Source = Login.accdb, Data table = LoginTable, Connection = LoginCn. I use visual basic 2010. So how do I do this?
i want to take a comma delimited text file and then select all unique records based on one of the fields in the text file. should i read the text file into a data table or just use a data reader?
Hi, i'm trying to use the treeview to display the text of a rtf (rich text file) file when an specific node if clicked.HomeOMGWOOTFor example, if i pick OMG, i want the text of lol.rtf to be displayed on a richtextbox. But somehow i just can't manage to get it... I know to import the text of a .txt file to a textbox, but using the treeview makes it more complicated. This is the code im using right now:
Private Sub TreeView1_NodeMouseClick(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.TreeNodeMouseClickEventArgs) Handles TreeView1.NodeMouseClick Select Case e.Node.Index Case 0
[code]....
Another thing is, that i can't import the *.rtf text into a richtextbox and i don't know why.
I have two text files which contains are like this[code]..
When the original files find the same values in drill file than it must overwrite the original file the line from drill file. Let say original file contain T230 than it must serch for same value in drill file if it find than it must overwrite the original file line with drill file line. The content of drill file is not fix. It will allways be update according to need.
How to match one value to another value in same text file. For example I have a this value : 116.71 33.3 in my text file. I want to check whether another same value exist in a same text file or not.
I used this code to find my first value Do myLine = myReader.ReadLine() Loop Until myLine.Contains("*+*+* Top *+*+*") Do Until myReader.EndOfStream myLine = myReader.ReadLine() [Code] ..... Once I get the value I want to check another same value exist in the same text file or not.
I know similiar question have been asked but they are a little different so here I go. Basically I have a game in which the user enters their name and they get a score. This name and score then get recorded when they end the game as follows:
Dim userdataSW As New StreamWriter("E:GameScores.txt", True) strline = frmVictory.TempPlayerName & "," & frmVictory.TempPlayerScore userdataSW.WriteLine(strline) userdataSW.Close() userdataSW.Dispose()
What I then need to do is sort these values in the text file from largest to smallest (based on the number not the name but I still want the name to be assosiated with that score) so I can have the top 10 scores appear in a hall of fame type thing.
So I'm in the final stages of finishing a program I've been working on for nearly a year now, and this is basically my final hurdle. The Save dialogue is working beautifully, with 'flags' in order to switch it over from the regular input into text boxes to the Listbox input protocol.
However, I'm having a *** of a time getting it to take lines from the text file and put them in the proper text box. Here is an example file:
Quote:
SHOWNAME CALLNAME BREED
[Code]....
So with the sample file I provided above, in the textbox named callNameText would appear "SHOWNAME", and so on and so forth. With this build, I get a NullReferenceException on the "Me.Controls(strboxNames(i)).Text() = strAllText(ati)" line.

i need the max ,min, avarage, for the 24 lines that lines counted from the line that contain the max date so i get the code for the max date for in the txt file this code used for both if txt file sorted by Ascending or by Descending
i am trying to read from a text file and enter this into a table. The text file contains just 3 didget numbers sepearted by a line to distingues a new number. The table consists of 2 columns called ID (which is auto increment PK) and ISBN. The table is called IntTable in a database called book.mdf. I have found some code which i need to change to accumplish this task. Can someone direct me as to what i should be trying to change, add etc i would be very greatful. I am extremly new to all of VB,ASP and using Visual Studio 2010 so please bare with me if i ask what you may percieve as silly questions.
I have been trying to find out how to do this for days now, so I am finally asking how. I am newish to programming. Here is my problem.
I am trying to extract x,y,z coordinates from a text file arranged as such:
x,y,z x,y,z x,y,z etc.
I need to be able to extract the x column into an array, the y into an array, and the z into an array. I learned how to pull it into a string, and how to split for every line, but i don't know how to split after each comma and separate them.
I need to write values, mostly doubles into a text file in VB.NET. I ported the code from VB6, but the performance of the VB6 write#fileID, vars) in VB.NET, is very bad, it introduces a delay of about one hour. I have tried out the streamwrite, and its performance is good; it's actually faster than VB6 write.
I am using the write(string) method for the streamwriter, and I am concatenating the values using variable names as follows: streamwriter.write(var1 &","& var2 &","&....&","& var n &","). This version of write enables me to have more than one variable written to file per statement. The problem that I have is that the content of the file is incorrect, unlike the one produced by the slow VB6 write in VB.NET.
Is there a better way of achieving this requirement; preferably using the streamwriter? I cannot use the streamwriter.write(double), becuase I'll have to use multiple lines as I am writing about 800 vars in convergence test loops resulting in a total of just over 2 million writes.
I want to randomly input a text line from a .txt to different labels in my program. So far I have this:
Dim FILE_NAME As String = "question.txt" If System.IO.File.Exists(FILE_NAME) = True Then Dim objReader As New System.IO.StreamReader(FILE_NAME) Dim question(5) As String Dim line As String = "" [Code] .....
This works perfectly, but as you can see there is no randomization, it just runs through each line. I want one out of every three lines to be chosen. My text file, on each line, has question tab answer tab answer tab answer tab answer tab correct answer. So for the first inputted question i want it to chose one of the first three lines, second question chose a line between line 4,5 and 6. etc.
I have three text boxes for inputting amounts of money. One is for a total check amount, the other two are separate amounts that should add up to the total check amount. In each of the individual text boxes validating events, I have the following
Private Sub txtAmount1_Validating(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.CancelEventArgs) Handles txtAmount1.Validating Try
I'm trying to calculate an average no from data imported from a text file using streamreader. I'm not sure how the loop should read, and the result (average) I want to hold in a separate variable for future use.[code]...
How would I go about reading a textfile, finding values and using the values in the program? Now I want the program to read the text file, find [1], use the first line after [1] as value for a variable, and the second line as value for another variable. After that I will run some code with the values and then do the same thing again for [2] etc.
program that reads the text from a text file and displays the information in different text boxes. I cannot figure out how to enable it to write to different text boxes. In the text file each word is separated by a comma.
Dim sr As New IO.StreamReader("Input.txt") Dim line, vals() As String Dim i As Integer
i have a textbox in my app, and when you click the button it inputs the textbox.text into a website textarea this worked fine when i was testing it using the source code (html file on my computer) but what i did not realise was that the textarea was formatted with some java (added tools to the texarea) so now when i try it on the website it does not work as the textarea has the java running. (calls it from another url) code i was using
Ok so I have a combo box that lists a set of names. What I want to do is match a selected name to a text file and read from it. The text file contains the same name and has grades listed below:
I want to create a text file or see if a text file exists when application starts. The problem I was having was after creating the text file, I tried to write to text file and got an error saying that another process was using it.
Dim test As String = My.Computer.FileSystem.SpecialDirectories.MyDocuments & " est1.txt" If System.IO.File.Exists(test) Then MsgBox("File Loaded") Else
[code]....
I looked up topics on filestream, but am unsure if this is how to use it. Is my code ok? Is there another way to create a text file?
I save data from datagridview to text file. I also load the same data from text file into datagridview for edit and update the same thing to text file. Let say this text file i called as Drill.txt. I have another text file called header.txt which need to match its value with the value of Drill.txt file then overwrite value from Drill.txt to header.txt. Now i want to make my Drill.txt in encrypted format to prevent anyone to open that file and modify out of program. They only can modify it through the program
i have 5 textboxes in a form. I have a streamwriter that writes all of their text to on text file like this:
Code: Dim xfile As String = Application.StartupPath & "/Set.txt" If File.Exists(xfile) = True Then Dim writex As StreamWriter = New StreamWriter(xfile)
[code]....
I was wondering how to get the text under the each number and place it in the corresponding textbox.
I am using a thread to call a process which is spliting a text file into various text file and folder using the system.io , now when calling the Textsplit() with thread on click of a button i am getting the error below , how to use thread and why this error occurs.
Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'txtbox_destn' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on.
I am trying to ping a text file("C:/Domains.txt") which is a list of domains, then have the resulting IP address written to a different text file ("C:/IP_Addresses.txt"). And this action will be done with a Button_Click.
All I would like to do is remove one character from the line of the text file that I am reading, which is the first character and also prevent the program from crashing if no text file is present. Here is the code. Can anyone notice where I am going wrong? I thought the "if" statement would cover the crash but it didn't. Clueless, but sort of have an idea on the character removal.
Private Sub RadioButton_CheckedChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles RadioButton.CheckedChanged Dim fileReader As System.IO.StreamReader Dim lineRead As String If RadioButton.Checked Then
what would be the optimum code in VB2010 that check a file to determine:
1) is it a text file, and
2) if it is a text file, does it contain any non-ASCII characters
Note that LF, CR, and EOF would be expected, and should not be flagged. I can think of 3 - 4 ways to do it, but there may be a 'best' way in terms of simplicity and speed.
