whether is it feasible to commit one huge transaction per time or do it multiple times.Lets say around 1000 - 3000 of mixed updating or inserting rows for per transaction or having a loop to commit every transaction as it loops.Which one is preferred ? will it have any impact ?

Rather than use an Entry name of an existing VPN connection, is it possible to connect to a remote network by creating a temporary connection on the fly by using the remote IP/Host name, username and password?

I'm trying to display the network adapters on the computer running this application.
For that I want to be able to display all network adapters, no matter which status they have. Then I want to be able to enable and disable the adapters by pushing a button.
I've tried using System.Net.NetworkInformation, but it seems as though it only contains the one that's active.

I am wanting to make or have someone help me make a remote support system. I would like it to have a ticket system interegated into it, but if it would be easier to just have the remote support, then I'll just stick with that. I am wanting for my client's to download the client version and then connect to it. Then they give me their IP or some code that I type in and connect and control their computer. I give technical support.

I was asked to be able to not move their mouse if they were in Word, Excel, in an application writing a problem ticket,

I've been working on my game for a while, in a non-online multi-player state it is complete. My goal is to add LAN or Internet Play support.My game is coded in Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express, It relies heavily on timers.Currently you play against the AI, and there is a Local multiplayer mode, using mice, controllers or the keyboard.At the moment, it is a two player, (Or 1 player against the AI) game, from my understanding the standard Client-to-Server option wouldn't very efficent, the best choice would be a peer-to-peer system.That being said, a lot of the stuff could be done client side, like for instance, the particle engine and Dynamic Rendering.[code]

I am writing a network diagramming application with SNMP autodiscovery. I can query SNMP devices but I need to be able to differentiate between laptops, servers, and workstations. The only response I recieve is cpu information, os version, and the cpu stepping. Any idea on how to get the type of a remote network device? This might be more a networking question.

I am trying to open a file from a server
I currently have
Dim attachedFilePath As String = "\myservermyshare est.txt"
File.Open(attachedFilePath, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read, FileShare.Read)
This does not open a file.
However, if I change the path to be local then there is no issue.
Dim attachedFilePath As String = "c:... est.txt"
So, is there a way to open a file from remote storage?

I get this error at the Commit of a transaction in a desktop application:
This OleDbTransaction has completed; it is no longer usable.
Other posts I have seen with similar error suggests this can occur if it takes a long time, or contains large amounts of data. This is not the case here.Logging tells me it takes 140 ms from Begin to Commit and about 10 commands executed inside the transaction.It is using an Oracle database.This class is a simplified version of my database class:
Class MyDatabase
Private mConnection AS OleDbConnection
Private mTransaction AS OleDbTransaction

Is it not allowed to run a select inside a transaction like this? Or can it be done by running the transaction in a specific isolation level (I see that the BeginTransaction method has an optional parameter for doing this) ? ..Or some other sollution..? In my case, it was not a problem to move the select to run before the transaction started, but what if you need to run selects that must run inside the transaction?

I've seen plenty of examples of transactions in the actual store procedure's SQL. But I'm wanting to do the transaction and keep track of it in code. I tried this but it says that my insertcommand's transaction object is null. How can I fix this?

conn.Open()
Dim params(1) As SqlParameter

What is this kind of exception?
Error : Execute requires the command to have a transaction object when the connection assigned to the command is in a pending local transaction. The transaction property of the command has not been initialized..
This one causes the error: Dim oOperation As COperationOutputTypeBS
oOperation = COperationOutputTypeBS.GetOperationOutputType(txtOperationCode.Text)

I'm using System.Management.ManagementScope to connect to a remote computer and install an MSI package. This works great if the MSI is located on the remote computer, but it fails if I try to use a network location to run the MSI from. The UNC path is correct because if I manually type it from the remote computer it runs fine. There must be a limitation (security I'm thinking) that prevents things from running via WMI if the exe isn't local to the remote machine.My last hope will be to copy the MSI from the network location, store it locally on the remote computer, then run it - but I'd really rather not have to do that.

I have created a program that allows me to remotely access computers on my network (not all done by me i found some code online) however i want to modify that program to allow me to connect to computers not on my network. How can i go about doing this? My program consists of a client and a server. When the server runs it listens for the client on the client side i enter the IP address and it connects so i can send remote commands to the remote system.

Here is my idea so far: I have a bunch of computers connected in a local network. One of them is a MySQL server, one will have a vb.NET program wich will act as a "second server" and the rest will be different clients. What I want to do is that the "second server" will send out some kind of message or network package to some of the clients in the network, and they will execute a code based on what message it is, or what kind of package it is. I'll give you a simple example:

I compiled some VB6 code on my Win7 x64 machine and the result .exe will not run correctly on any other machine. VB6 code is just a new template .exe file with one button, a reference to "Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects 2.6 Library" and the following code in the button press event: Dim db Set db = New ADODB.Connection It runs correctly on my machine, but no others (even other Win7 x64 machines) (Update: I found TWO other users where it runs and one of them is Jeff Atwood!, but most machines have the same problem)

I have installed SQL Server 2005 Express and VB 2008 Express.
For testing, I created a database with 1 table with 4 columns. I used SQL Server to add 2 records. I then created a new project with 2 forms. On one form, I put a DataGridView control. On the other, I used bound text boxes. Both had a ToolStrip. I made changes to the data through the forms. Both forms seemed to work properly, except when I looked at the data again using SQL Server, the data had not changed. Opening the forms again, the data had reverted to the original data.
I am using the code created by controls, so it should work. When I use the Database Explorer in VB, it shows the table and the data and I can make changes to that data. So why is my code not committing the transactions?[code]...
