I'm trying to trigger when the mouse leaves the form, but I don't want to trigger the mouseleave when its over controls; as it is doing at the moment. Can you suggest ways to keep triggering the mousehover over form while on controls? but mouseleave works still when the mouse leaves the form (not when hovering controls) ?

The forms default value is 75% and it works fine when I mouse over. However when the mouse leaves the opacity doesn't drop. What am I doing wrong?
I have a form where I want buttons at the very bottom edge of the form, with no gap to the border. These buttons shall be "auto-hide", so they only show when the mouse is in for example the lower 20 pixels of the form. So I use the MouseMove event to trigger this, like code below. However, if mouse leaves the form across the bottom edge, where the buttons are, then the buttons will obviously remain. But I want them to hide. So I need for this purpose to hide the buttons by some other event. Hence I try to hide them in the form's MouseLeave event. But this makes the buttons unclickable and in an erratic state, flashing on and off when the mouse goes over the button..

I'm attempting to convert VB 5.0 source code to VB 2008. The converted code will then be slightly altered to facilitate its incorporation into a larger project that I'm developing in VB 2008. After using the conversion wizard (which is actually written for VB 6.0), I have 49 unresolved issues -- less than I expected. Much has changed since the days of my prowess as a programmer (Fortran in the 70's), so working my way through even as few as 49 issues will be a challenge, and will (no doubt) take me a while.
The UI for the VB 5.0 code I'm converting is a "virtual remote," with control buttons that (when clicked) trigger communication to a USB-connected device. With assistance, I've been able to develop my own "virtual remote," contained within my VB 2008 project. Eventually, I will "substitute" mine for the original. For now, though, I'm wanting to use MY "virtual remote" to trigger the original.
I have the executable for the VB 5.0 program, and can run it simultaneously with my "under-development" VB 2008 code. Problem is: I don't know how to cause a "click" on MY virtual remote to trigger a click on the original virtual remote (which is being "monitored" by the other program).

View 3 Repliesi have to develop a software for motorola mc9090 that reads barcodes and rfids simultaneously, so i need to catch two different triggers: the one on the keyboard for barcodes and the other in the backside for rfids.the problem is that i didn't find any sample that illustrates how to set the trigger to read only barcodes, i found something on emdk 2.5 samples that shows how to set the trigger to read rfids but nothing for barcodes. So when i press any trigger the barcode reader is always enabled with rfids reader.Does exist a way to manage them with separated triggers?
View 1 RepliesI am new to VB.NET, Now i'm working with Events in VB.NET, I have two event methods, Mouse Click and Mouse Down for a single button in a form, I have displyed a message in each of these methods but only mouse down event is triggered. Why Mouse Click is not triggered? Similiarly I Did the same for Mouse Enter and Mouse Move for a particular button, in this case both the events are triggered.

Upon clicking the editbutton will execute EditForm.ShowDialog()
And in my EditForm the record will be updated, after which will trigger ViewProductsInventory.btnSearch_Click( ViewProductsInventory.btnSearch, EventArgs.Empty)
And then the error "Conversion from string "" to type 'Date' is not valid" occurs.
I tried Msgbox(Me.cboInventoryDate.Text) and returns nothing. I'm assuming that my cboInventoryDate is not being populated at this time therefore when btnSearch_Click is triggered it receives nothing.
i have a little problem in calling the button1_click event of form1 from my form2.whenever i use call form1.button1_click() it gives me an error saying argument not specified for parameter 'e'. can anyone please assist me on fixing this?

I've been playing with VB.NET for a couple days now, and I was looking into key input controls, now I've managed to have it react to keyboard buttons being pushed inside the main form (wasn't hard), where it counts total amount of keys pushed, not what keys are pushed etc.
What I'm having a harder time is finding a way to have this same functionality even if the form isn't active (for example when minimized to the system tray). I did find a similar question on these boards, but it was regarding hotkeys and that user was just referenced to the hotkey API, which is not what I am aiming for.
I am creating a form and I have a label that will display the user's name, but what I need to do it trigger a text box when the application opens that will allow the user to type in their name and then assign that value to the label in my form. How do I trigger the text box and assign the value to my label? My label is named lblStudent.

View 1 RepliesFor a small project I need the possibility to "trigger" a function in a Window-form-application from a Service. So there are 2 program's. One is the visible Form application with textboxes and buttons and so on... The other is a sort of service program that runs on the Windows Service account.
Actually the second program is a command-line tool that gets fired by a PHP script from the Apache server. Because the command-line tool runs in another "environment" then the Windows-form-App, it is NOT possible to communicate (trigger) with both apps.
I know I have to use IPC (InterProcess Communication) and I have download the dozens of sample apps, but I still can't get it to work.
PLEASE can someone give me some sample code, or perhaps sample program(s) to help me out?
I think it's really easy to build what I want, but for me it's a no-go :-(
So for example it has to work like this:
PHP script (running at Apache server) runs a "console/service" app (already working) which "triggers" (via IPC) a already running Windows-Form-app (also already working app) that for example shows a MsgBox with the text in it that is sended by the "console/service" app.
how to trigger a refresh on a form when an update occurs in my business logic.
This isn't an issue for 95% of my forms because they call the update from the form that needs to be updated. However, In some cases an inner form does and update that requires an outer form to reflect this. I've read about Handles, Delegates, AddressOf etc etc and I'm drowning in options.
In simple terms, I need three things to happen
1. Form2 (inner form) has updated info, so the user clicks Save
2. Save calls my Data Access Layer and updates the database
3. Form1 (outer form) has a DataGrid that needs to be notified so it can update via a Sub LoadGrid
It's stage 3 I can't do. How do I trigger a Sub in Form2 (LoadGrid) to do the refresh from an external class.

Basically, we have an application which batch creates a large amount of files (pairs of PNG plus ASCII). The file count can exceed the one million.The first time the application ran the results were quite disappointing. The files get stored in folder structures of maximum 2000 files per folder. The tree depth gets only to two levels (root + packs folders). So the results would be stored in folders like "pack1","pack2"..."packn" each containing no more than 2000 files (1000 pairs in essence).
So getting back to the results, what happened was that although the application reported over 1.4 million files written, the results were that files were missing from the filesystem and others were corrupt (PNG cant be read and ASCII were blank filled with spaces).The speed that the files were written was not anything great (about 7 files per sec) and the total size ranged from 160K to 1.5M (rarely). The PNG images are 2000x2000 in size although I doubt it has anything to do with my problem.
Everything is done in pure .NET (image and ascii generation).The OS that has been tried was Win 2000 Advanced Server, Win 2003 Server plus XP Pro. The hardware ranged from Dual Core Workstation to high spec servers. The irony is that on the XP system the number of corrupt files was quite low where on the other two all hell broke loose. There were event logs written stating Event ID 2021 on the Win 2000 system and Paging faults on XP, which lead me to the next approach.
We wrapped the code to do an Application.DoEvents every second and refresh various statistic UI components. We obviously added Stream.Flush().Plus we added code to check the files (re-read them) once they are written. Even added "WriteThrough" option to avoid the OS cache! The result was stuggering as no errors were report yet the NTFS table again got corrupted!Now we inserted Thread.Sleep(100) after writing and then reading to confirm the file. Obviously this is slowing down the process but hope to have more stable results.
Reading and article about Event ID 2021 we saw it was suggesting to modify registry values, but the IT dep did not wish to accept this as they believe it is an application error.In pseudo code, here is more or less what is done:

I am trying to write code for a login to my program. But the code I have written freeze's the screen. Basicaly I want to check if username (TextBox1) has text in it and then check if password (Textbox2) has text in it. if either textbox has no text then a MsgBox show's with an OK Button. and then I dont want the program to run. I want The login form to reload so the user can insert thier username & password. the code I have is below.

My question to you is, can I delay the mouse down event so that it does not intefere with the code of the Mouse.Click event? I have tried adding a timer and waiting x amount then setting a bool value to true, but the code executes to fast and it skips the other code.

This was a guess, after looking at the Form.ShowDialog method in reflector.My question is, is there a managed call I can make to acheive the same result, and what does a button click do that other clicks don't?
ETA: The problem does not occur if I open the form using a key.

View 5 RepliesHow do i get the mouse pos on the forum at any given point in time such as the paint event or a timer tick ect.Also on a side note,Im drawing lots of single pixels,Im creating a bitmap every paint event (Which fire every 25ms) to do "Set Pixel" on then draw the bitmap...Is that a reasonable thing to do for drawing 5000-25000 pixels at a time or is there a faster way?
