Uninitialised DateTime Struct Tell Me It's Monday?
Sep 20, 2010
I have a DateTime struct I use, and sombody commented out the part where it was created (but not declared) When I was using it, myDate.DayOfWeek == DayOfWeek.Monday returned true.
If the part where it is created is commented out, how can it tell me it's monday, instead of throwing some exception?

I need to find a way to find the date (DD/MM/YYYY) of the Monday for any week we're on.
For example, for this week, monday would be 09/11/2009, and if this were next week it'd be 16/11/2009.
I managed to get somewhere in the forms of code, but all I got was 'cannot convert to Integer' errors. I was using Date.Today and AddDays().

I had some trouble specifying Monday as the first day of week in the DateDiff function.
The following syntax does not work: Dim myWeekNumber as Int32 = DateDiff("ww",date1,date2,2)
Compiler Error Message: BC30519: Overload resolution failed because no accessible 'DateDiff' can be called without a narrowing conversion
However, using the enumeration value (FirstDayOfWeek.Monday) instead of the value (2) does work. I wonder why.

I am converting an application originally written in vb6 to vb.net. One of the things this application does is that it sends a object to a dll. I tried converting the type to a structure and p/invoking the dll but it does not seem to work

Trying to setup a VB array (jagged array?) that has an entry for each rcd that contains the # of bytes in the data, as well the data. If it's possible how do you setup and loop through something like this is VB?
EX (1024 max bytes of data but it could vary):
struct inpRcd {
int rcdSize;
byte data[MAX_RCD_BYTES];
} inpRcds[MAX_RCDS]

I have a struct setup like the following[code]...
I then loop through a counter and add each PersonInfo object to the Dictionary. The Primary defaults to false if the Code is already in the Dictionary, but if it has not been inserted into the Dictionary, I want to set the Primary to True. It would be easy to check if the Code was the key, but I can't because the Code is not unique.

I am looking into generics in .NET, and was wondering about the where T : struct constraint. I understand that this allows you to restrict the type used to be a value type. My question is, without any type constraint, you can do a limited number of operations on T. Do you gain the ability to use any additional operations when you specify where T : struct, or is the only value in restricting the types you can pass in?
I guess the question I am actually asking is that if I were to write, (in a discussion about how to use generics), "Now that you have constrained the type argument to value types, you can also do _________ on/with objects of that type", Is there anything to put in that blank? I can think of things for the other constraints, but not this one.

How can I cast the object into something that can be passed into the SetDropDownValue method?

I'm trying to match a certain DateTime value with the current system DateTime. I have a timer and a label on a form. Timer interval is set to 1000. When the form loads, the timer starts ticking. As soon as the current DateTime matches the value of the variable, it shows a message in the label. When I'm writing the following code, the values don't match even if the current system DateTime is equal to the variable. Label1 isn't showing 'Times Matched':[code]The default format of 'Now' is the same as I have stored in dtmVar variable. So there's no question of format mismatch. Does that mean 'Now' is not actually a DateTime property? Provided, my O.S. is Windows Vista Ultimate and all date/time settings are set to default.

I have a basic confusion between serial port and network TCP communication to devices.
My colleague uses a vb struct as the nice easy to read way to create a packet to send out via a serial port. Like this basic code sample below of his vb.net serial call followed at bottom by my c# tcp beginsend network call.
Can I use a struct as well to call out for my TCP network beginsend? By looking at the signature of BeginSend(Byte[] as the beginning of the signature for that method call to send data to a connected socket, I don't see myself being able to use a struct.
Public Structure PacketRecord
Dim SourceAddress As Integer
Dim DestinationAddress As Integer
Dim Length As Integer

I have built a recursive file system crawler that amasses file system data from a file share. I use the FileInfo object to get my metrics, however, I am finding that in especially deep file structs, that the ol' 260 character MAX_PATH MS bug crops up ':8-0:'. This puts me in my angry place, since I do not seem to be able to get around it no matter what kind of programmatic tom-foolery I try.
So far, I have tried:- converting to 8.3 format --> no good path + filename STILL is > 260 (believe it or not) - tried to go with a Straight low-level API approach
What I have found is some pretty Sketchy information regarding VB implementation of the kernel32 api's in this regard (just try & find a createfile port for vb.net, I couldnt)
Anyway, I guess I was hoping that someone else has run into this pain, and knows how to make a surefire way to get a file's information (size, dates esp), regardless of how long and painful the path may in fact be...

I try to compare Datetime.Now with a Datetime variable I set, using the Datetime.CompareTo() method. I use a timer to compare these every second and display the result, but as the current time approaches the time I set, the result changes from 1 to -1, but never 0, which means these two are never equal. I'm suspecting the Datetime structure contains milliseconds?

[Code]...
the msgbox gives me the following result: 29/01/2011 18:49:21 my sqlException gives me the following error: 102 - Incorrect syntax near '18'. Is it better that i set the datatype to char in my sql database? It's maybe a bit easier? When I do that, can I calculate with these date?
