I am trying to uninstall VB express 2005 but keep getting an error that it cannot complete. I have looked but could not find a place to reinstall to see if after that it will let me then uninstall it like many have suggested but can not locate an install place. I am trying to get it removed to see if it will then let me install SQL 2008 on my computer.
View 2 RepliesI have attempted to uninstall VB 2005 express and C++ express using Remove Add programs to no avail. Error message: The Window Installer Package c:program files visual studio 8 vs_setup.msi could not be opened. I have removed the MSDN library and SQL server successfully. I have also tried vs_uninst_betas tool which doesn't find anything to uninstall. I would prefer not to modify the registry if at all possible. If I could find a source for the original install packages for VB and C++ I would attempt reinstalling and then uninstalling....but cannot find them anywhere.

Since then my PC became heavy and slow, I want to some of the programs but I am afraid that vb express won't function properly. Can someone tell me which program can be removed without problems?
If I have a project that I built in 2005 can I also work on it in 2008 and vice versa? What are the main differences from each version Also I deployed a project and it installs on the user computer with the name I installed VB 2005 with, not the name I use in project set up?? Is this common how can i change that without having to uninstall VB and reinstall with new name? Or is it picking that name up from somewhere else in my project?

In order to better support problems with this application is has been suggested in the past to uninstall it and do a fresh re-install. However, in investigation it was determined that the uninstall does not consider all installed objects and does not uninstall the CD install.Can the uninstall functionality be modified to catch the other instances of this application and also uninstall them?

View 4 RepliesI have developed a Visual Basic application but this issue happens regardless of the programming language used to make the app. The application consists of a single EXE file. Now I am trying to add install/uninstall capabilities to it without using external setup packagers like InstallShield or whatnot..
For example I have programmed the command-line switch "/install" to add the necessary registry key values under HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstall This has worked flawlessly. Now my application appears in the "Programs and Features" list along with all other installed programs from my computer. Now when I click the "Uninstall/Change" button it is supposed to execute the contents of the "UninstallString" key which is calling my application with the "/uninstall" switch. This in turn will delete itself and remove the entry from the registry.
The problem is that when I click the "Uninstall/Change" button I get an error message saying that I do not have sufficient access to uninstall my app even though I am logged on as an administrator.It is worth mentioning that if I right click on the executable file, select "Properties" and check the "Run as administrator" option then the uninstall will work like a charm but I would like to know how to make it work without running it as administrator.I mean all other applications can be uninstalled just fine and they are not running as administrator. Also the uninstall will work flawlessly on Windows XP but that was something to be expected. The problem happens both in Vista and Windows 7. In Vista I even get an UAC prompt and after I confirm that it still tells me that I don't have sufficient access.

I'm have a very peculiar error. I have a query from a VB.NET app that hits a Oracle instance. I retrieve that data into a dataset, then dump the data into a spreadsheet. Always for the same row and same column i retriving an error:

View 5 RepliesThe Form Designer in the IDE is no longer working properly. When I create a new project, the Form Designer will work, but after I save it and close the IDE and reopen the next day the Form Designer no longer shows the form and instead says "To prevent possible data loss before loading the designer, the following errors must be resolved: An Error occurred while parsing EntityName.Line 2, position 62" If I click ignore and continue, then it just displays a blank form with no controls. The problem appears to have started after I unistalled and reinstalled VB2008 Express.

The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.
