Getting Progress Of Dataset Filling Operation?

Oct 17, 2010

I have a varbinary(MAX) field in my MS SQL Server database. The SqlDataAdapter.Fill() method takes a relatively long time (in LAN). I want to show progress for the SqlDataAdapter.Fill() method itself, using a ProgressBar.

Note: I know how to deal with UI controls and how to implement multi-threading.

IDE :: Visual Studio 2010 Is Waiting For An Internal Operation To Complete?

Feb 2, 2012

I know I'm not the only developer experiencing this issue but only within the last month I started receiving Visual Studio 2010 hangs while running running a simple ASPX web project within the IDE. On stopping the execution or closing the web page VS2010 hangs and becomes completely unusable - stating that VS is busy. It never returns and I have to stop the DEVENV process, resulting in a complete shutdown of VS.

Until now (1 1/2 years) I've been developing a Winforms application with no issues, other than VS2010 IDE errors that have been documented and I've been able to work around. Now, like my Web project, I am also experiencing the same hang but not as frequently. Other documented cases is this forum don't apply in this case since I'm not working with an IIS web site.

Additionally, in reading the forum messages I notice this issue has been around for years and has caused a great deal of grief and delay to many development projects. I'm running Win7 Pro, VS2010 pro on a Pentium Dual-Core CPU 2.20 Ghz with 4 GB memory laptop running in 32 bit mode. I'm very concerned at this stage of the process to upgrade to VS2010 SP1 since I've read too many horror stories online and can't take the risk of affecting the only support environment i have for Winforms application that is currently in production

Faulty Setting Causing 'insufficient Storage' Error?

Dec 13, 2011

I have a project in VB 2008 Express, and I made a foolish mistake of assigning a string setting (ie my.settings.mystring) a very long string (the contents of a 115kb text file). After that the compiler threw an error and closed the IDE, now everytime..I open the project to try and get rid of the string the IDE throws an error 'system out of storage...' (my laptop has 4GB memory, ~100GB free hdd space) and promptly closes.

VS 2010 - Filling DataGrid Columns With Excel Data

Mar 26, 2012

I finally got this code to work:
vb
Dim path As String = OpenFileDialog1.FileName
Dim myDataset As New DataSet()
Dim strConn = New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.ACE.Oledb.12.0;Data Source=" & path & ";Extended Properties=""Excel 12.0;HDR=YES;IMEX=1""")
Dim myData As New OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM [Sheet1$]", strConn)
myData.Fill(myDataset)
DataGridView1.DataSource = myDataset.Tables(0).DefaultView

Now that I figured that out I was going to try and place the data in a specific location. On my application I have a datagridview set up with 4 columns. What I would like to do is put column A of the excel file under the 1st column of the datagridview and column C of the Excel File in the second column of the datagridview.

So replace:
vb
DataGridView1.DataSource = myDataset.Tables(0).DefaultView
With:
vb
DataGridView1.columns(0) = myDataset.Tables(0).columns(0)
DataGridView1.columns(1) = myDataset.Tables(0).columns(2)

Obviously this doesnt work, and something tells me I might need a for loop to import the data, but I have never imported information from an Excel file before and to make it worse I have never worked with datagridviews before so I have no idea how to go about this.

I would like to do something like this if I could:
vb
For x = 1 To xldoc.rows.length - 1
DataGridView1.Item(0, x).Value = CType(xlDoc.Cells(0, x + 1), Excel.Range).Text
Next

Filling DataSet - Error When Database Not Available

Oct 29, 2009

I have a dataset in my application that I fill using tableadapters like this:
Class Form1:
sub new()
Database = new Database
end sub

Class Database:
sub new()
tblLalalalaTableAdapter.Fill(DataSet.tblLalalala)
end sub

I am told it is too early to call the tableadapter.fill method inside the constructor. If the database is unavailable now, the application won't even start. It will just kinda crash. What is the proper way to do this? When should I call the tableadapter.fill methods?

.net - SQLDataAdapter Filling Datatable With Primary Key Produces Error And Exits Sub?

Aug 12, 2011

Ok so this is going to take some explaining. The process I am trying to do is grab data from a table function in SQL and then fill a dataset with the returned values. I then have to run this query twice more to query an alternative number table. Then add to the same table as the previous queries.This needs to be as fast as possible, so I am currently using an adapter.fill to populate the datasets and then a dataset.merge to put them all into one table.

The problem is the query can return duplicates which waste time and space, because of this I made column 3(part_ID) the primary key to stop duplicates.When this is run with the .merge it quits at the first instance of a duplication and doesn't continue with the population.

Ergo, it didn't complete successfully....I am using ASP.NET 2.0 and have read some about this error but I don't see any fixes I can do, aside from what I've tried already.
