then it catch an error as Incorrect Syntax near". which it points to myAdapter.Fill(myDataSet, "tblVisitor") not the Select command.

I have a dataset in my application that I fill using tableadapters like this:

I am told it is too early to call the tableadapter.fill method inside the constructor. If the database is unavailable now, the application won't even start. It will just kinda crash. What is the proper way to do this? When should I call the tableadapter.fill methods?

The update fails during the update and a rollback command is issued using a SQLTransaction object. However, now the rowstates of the rows that did not have errors have been changed to unchanged. So this record is no longer availible to be inserted into the database. When I updated the value that could not be null and then test the second update which runs just as the first does then I get a concurrency error. The update code is below:

I have an app that coonects to 2 different DB servers using the same code but different connstrs to fill in a Combobox. On a certain Pc the first combo fills in and the 2nd does not.It never timesout and no error msg is ever rpted back. It just sits there forever after the adapter.fill cmd.Only difference between the first combo fill and the 2nd is a different connstr.Only 12 rows should come back from the Db. I have connected to Db in SQL query window and ran the SQL cmd and the 12 rows come back in a second or 2.On other PCs this same app works fines. I have the PCs on the same OS and all the newest updates installed.I have tested the network ports, used different ones. Used different user log ins on the same PC. It just wont work.

I am having difficulties with Filling a dataset. It seems to be automatically assigning a datatype to the column based off of the first field of data it finds in that column. The column sometimes contains an integer, but it may also contain letters and numbers. If the first field is an integer, it says the fields in the column that contain a letter are DBNull. I'd like for the entire dataset to be formatted as a string/text type since I do not know what the values will be that I'm importing 100% of the time. How do I tell the dataset to expect a certain datatype for all columns and rows i'm going to import?

I thought it would have been easy but I was wrong. i can set the text to read the first line of the colomn but nothing else. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with what I have to do. The SQL string won't return data from Access. I've tested this exact SQL String in Access and it works fine.First of all, Am I getting a SQL query from Access in the proper manner?Second... should I be using a stored procedure for this? I have a varbinary(MAX) field in my MS SQL Server database. The SqlDataAdapter.Fill() method takes a relatively long time (in LAN). I want to show progress for the SqlDataAdapter.Fill() method itself, using a ProgressBar.

View 5 RepliesI recently updated an app that I wrote to allow the clients to run the app in read only mode disconnected from the database by serializing the typed dataset, and when they are offsite/offline instead of connecting to the database the serialized dataset is loaded. This has been working great and then I hit a major snag.
A majority of the graphs and reports are based on sql views that are typed views in the dataset. Of course offlline the tableadapters cannot run the sql views.
Does anyone know a way to run/fill the view with the already loaded dataset? I can add rows clientside so I'm inclined to believe there must be some way to fill the view clientside but I've been at this for a number of hours now and not making any real progress.
When I use a command such as:

I am going out to the database, gathering the requested information and filling the dataset. Therefore, everytime I add a query to a table adapter, it is also going to the database to get the information. So, my question is, how do I fill a table in a data set with all the records in the database table and then, filter the information I've already collected in the dataset without going back out to the database again?
