I've made a dataset using the dataset designer, and I'm trying to add a column to reflect changes made to the database (added a column, nothing fancy). Is there a way to 'refresh' the dataset schema from the datasource without deleting my adapter (and all the methods and queries I've created)?

So now I realised that I needed to make a few minor changes to the database (add new columns to some tables, change the data type of a few columsn in some tables). After making the changes, I realised that these changes have not been updated in my VB application's dataset. I then tried to "refresh" the dataset, but it still is not updating the dataset. What do I need to do to update the dataset to reflect the changes in the database?

I have an object databound to a WinForm. One property, BOLNumber is bound to a textbox on the form. When you change the value in the form, the underlying BOLNumber property is changed. But the property setter does some "formatting" to the value. I want to BOLNumber textbox to reflect the changes to the value made in the property setter immediately upon the textbox losing focus. I tried implementing the INotifyPropertyChanged interface, but I am either doing something wrong or misunderstanding something it would seem. How do I get the databound control to reflect the changes to the underlying data source?

I have a gridview loaded with data from my database and a gridview swapping function which after exchanging data between rows with a column call "Priority", I want to save these changes back to my database. As the title says, when I attempt to update a row in a table in a database, I recieve an InvalidCastException. I am unsure why, since the variables I am using should be, and indeed, when I check them at runtime, are filled with the correct data.
I am trying to update using the method wherein the row that is being updated is identified with all the variables already stored. Interestingly, Intellisense is telling me that EntryID, the primary key, is only necessary in it's original form, and that the variables that I am attempting to update have question marks after their type.

View 1 RepliesI have an existing project written in VB.NET using Visual Studio 2005 communicating to a SQL Server 2005 database. The database was migrated to a sql server 2008 r2 on a different physical server so the dataset's server name needs to be updated. I do not have access to the database anymore. is there a way to just update the server name without invoking the dataset wizard and requiring a connection to the database?
UPDATE: I tried to created a new project with just a button with the command calling the following subroutine to test the connection from a windows app to the sql server database. here is the sub:

OK so I did a noob screw up, I was cleaning my application and delting unused data sources and unused data bindings. Now my form is blank! All code shows up for the form and all items still show in the mainFrm.Designer.VB
View 4 RepliesHow do you restore a dataset to the previous state before updating the database with a data adapter? I have a concurrency update problem that I believe to be caused by this. The update fails during the update and a rollback command is issued using a SQLTransaction object. However, now the rowstates of the rows that did not have errors have been changed to unchanged. So this record is no longer availible to be inserted into the database. When I updated the value that could not be null and then test the second update which runs just as the first does then I get a concurrency error. The update code is below:

I have a windows form program that pulls data from a sql server. That same data is being read from a ASP.NET website that sets properties for the site. The SQL server has 3 tables: tblWebPage, tblObjects, tblProperties. and 6 views for the 6 web page: vWebPage01, vWebPage02, vWebPage03..ect. When the program loads you see buttons for each web page on the site. When the user clicks on the Home Page it loads this data: [code]Now, the problem lies in updating vWebPage02, vWebPage03, ect.. I assume with the same data I can copy my form with the code and change the form name and the data set to build and update. So that's just what I did changed the form name where needed and changed "vWebPage01" to "vWebPage02".When I tested the program My "vWebPage01" form it built and updated no problem. when I went to test "vWebPage02" it built the dataset and table adapter fine but it did not update at all.

Its Created But some extra values are added in element tag.
Its addeding due to special characters like {' / ....etc}

I have a dataset with numerous tables.I have changed the column type of a couple of columns in the source DB form smallint to int.No I need to update the datasets (and eventually the code) to the appropriate datatype.Rather than hunt around the dataset and find all the places where these columns are referenced is there a way to direct the dataset to go back to the DB, reread the queries and update the datatypes.I know I can either change the field or one by one go to each table and force it reread the query but I want the dataset to do it in mass.

I have a form where i can enter new product. In that same form i have listbox where i show the current product from the database.
I want to know how to update that listbox as i enter new product into the database so that user can see the current content of the product table.

I have a simple access database that a log record gets written to a few times an hour.
I'm trying to make a DataGridView that shows that data as it arrives.
My "Solution" is simple;
when a user clicks the view -> read from the database (fill the datatable) -> update the view.
Not what I dreamed of, but functional, if totally sub-optimal.
However, my "solution" is a dud, using fill draws every single record from the database, even if there are already 599 on screen.
Really, I just want fill the datatable once, and add new records as they arrive (or on click if needs be).
Bonus point if you can also explain another way (that isn't called so often) to hide the ID column, and change the header of column 1 (named DateTimeStamp) to TimeStamp.

I am creating a datatable and then adding a column to it which is filled with data from existing column and parsed into correct format DateSold is my existing column from my datafile and I create NewDateSold by adding the column to the existing table and then parsing the information in date format.
This is added to a binding source which then is used to populate a combobox I want to be able to sort the combo box by NewDateSold Desc I was able to this on the original column by simply using the "order By" in my query, it seems now that I added new column it is no longer sorted? I am finding different solution such as using dataview and wish to know the best way to do this
For some reason my tab pages won't update their data when I change the data contained in them. I have to scroll to the next Company and then scroll back for the changes to be reflected in that particular tab. I have no clue why this is as when I walk through my code in debugging, it shows that the appropriate labels are being set the appropriate values. But if I have one of the tabs as the one in focus when I change my company, it is updated correctly.
