when i add the record it saves and returns the save message box as it should and is viewable in the database where it saves to, but it is not viewable in the text boxes when looking back at the form until i close program and re open it, then i can see the record stored in the database, it just wont update the form,[code]
My form just isn't updating the row in the database: Here's my code: Protected Sub btnSubmit_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSubmit.Click If Request.QueryString("a") = "edit" Then Dim CategoryText As String = lstCategory.SelectedItem.Text Dim conn As New SqlConnection("Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS; Initial Catalog=LogansArchive; Integrated Security=True;") [Code] .....
I've never used nested SELECTs in SQL before so I'm not sure if I did it right. Aside from that, this is all stuff I've done before so I'm relatively sure that it's all correct. Finally, there are no errors being reported when I debug, although the updates don't seem to be coming through from the text fields (txtContent.Text isn't changing to reflect the new value).
I got the problem on updating the resit number after added the new data.. for the next time i go to the same form, the resit number would not increase automatically but maintain with the same number.. except if i debug my system again,the number will increase..
I new to vb.net. I used following code to add new row in my "customer" table. Following code does not give me any error. Still data is not added to database.
I've a question about vb.net application with ms access 2002 database.I use "Add data source" wizard to setup a connection to a access database.my application read text file into a temp data table at runtime.a button click to import data from temp table into one of access table.problem is data is not added at all.here is the code I use to do update
For Each dr In dt.Rows DataSet1.tbl2.ImportRow(dr) Next DataSet1.AcceptChanges() TableAdapterManager1.UpdateAll(DataSet1)
I have a form where i can enter new product. In that same form i have listbox where i show the current product from the database.
I want to know how to update that listbox as i enter new product into the database so that user can see the current content of the product table.
my code to load the listbox
Try Dim ds As New DataSet Dim cmd As New OleDbCommand
[Code].....
To sum it up, what i want is something that will refresh the current display of the listbox so user can see the actual and updated contents of the database.
with the above code, the newly entered product/data can only be seen when the program is closed and reopened again. Which is not very convenient.
I've seen similar problems posted on this and other boards, typically with a bunch of code checking before its realised that that database itself is being copied to another directory and run from there. Apparently this is managed via the database properties, copy to output directory settings. In my case I have tried all three options, with no change in result. After "saving", inspection of the actual database via the server explorer shows no changes have actually been committed.
I am getting to a point where I need to start entering large amounts of data into the app and have at actually save to the db for deeper testing.
I noticed this behavious first when using an .accdb and it has persisted through my exploration of SQL(.mdf)
db Output Option Selected / Result
always copy... data changes do not persist between debug runs and is not entered into actual database
copy if newer... data changes do persist between debug runs but is not entered into actual database (checked via server explorer)
Do Not Copy... generates the below Error on execution
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException was unhandled Message=An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:UsersXXXDesktopVisual Basic ProjectsSQLtestWindowsApplication4 - CopyWindowsApplication4inDebugMyDatabase.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.
Basically I want to be able to save any data I enter into my data grid / dataset ermanently , so when i close the program or restart it the data I previously entered within the grid will be present.This is what I have so far
BindingContext(CustomersDs, "Customers").EndCurrentEdit() OleDbDataAdapter1.Update(CustomersDs) is called Shop.mdb )
In my form i have a datagrid view and two textbox the textbox is bind with the datagrid..now when i click the data in the datagrid the data will go to the textbox (that's i want to happen) but when i click the update button and check my database it doesn't change.. i use ExecuteNonQuery to update my data.[code]...
I'm sure im just making a simple mistake some place but i just cant find it. I have datatable which I can and can make changes, save back to the database just fine. But if I reload the data after updating, no data is retrieved from the database. But if I stop debugging completely and then start again, it loads just fine...until i call Update.
Here is some code I am using for testing purposes.
Private myDataSet As New DataSet Private conn As MySqlClient.MySqlConnection Dim myDataAdapter As New MySqlClient.MySqlDataAdapter
I'm Using vb 2008 and an access DB.I have 2 tables in the DB which is transaction and products.When a Customer Buy product the transaction will record and the stock of that product will deduct accdg to the quantity bought by the customer. Myproblem is products table didn't update. Stock of that product still didn't change.
I am working on a project that stores data on animals. I am trying to make updates to data already stored there, through inputs on a VB form. A form where all the data is populating the fields shows up and the user can change/update any field. Once they are finished, they click update and the DB is supposed to reflect those changes (Theoretically)However, I wrote the code to do that, but when it runs nothing in the database is changed and nothing gets done, as it seems. No errors appear and nothing goes wrong with the program. It just doesnt change the data in the db.

I have two forms in my program, Form1 has ListBox which contains names from the Database.Form2, has textbox and add button to get a new name from the user.but when I click on add button.. i return to Form1 to view the names in the listbox by clicking on view button: ALL NAMES ARE DISPLAYED WITHOUT THE NEW NAME.when I close my program and click on View button all names including the new name that was entered before are displayed ! is there a way to display everything in the database without closing the program??I need a way to refresh or something.
Form1:
Imports System.Data.OleDb Public Class Form1 Dim ds As New DataSet()
I have successfully added textboxes to a form at runtime. I have also succesfully added an event handler to these same textboxes. What I'm having trouble understanding is how to refer to these textboxes programmatically after they have been added. Specifically, how do I;
1) Retrieve user data entered in those textboxes without an event handler
2) Find a specific one of those textboxex later (is looping thru all controls of type "textbox" the only way)?
purpose of find is so that I can set the value of the corresponding textbox programatically, based on some criteria Here is the code (all within in a for loop, where intvararycount is incrementing to a set limit) I have used to add the Textboxes to a Panel on a Form;
I have a datagrid view in my vb.net application. I want to update this DataGrid View so it shows any changes to the database (More specifically when a Column is added). I have tried DataGridView1.Update()
I can't seem to save data in the database when updating a record. The record appears to be updated and even displays the new record on my form but as soon as I close and restart the program the old record is back and no changes are made to the database. Is there something im missing here ?
If CN2.State = ConnectionState.Open Then Dim Comand As New SqlCeCommand("SELECT * From Incentives Where IncentiveCode = '" & TxtCode.Text & "'", CN2) Dim rs As SqlCeResultSet rs = Comand.ExecuteResultSet(ResultSetOptions.Sensitive + ResultSetOptions.Updatable) If rs.Read Then
I took a break from this program since I couldn't get it going. I just started it again yesterday and finally got it to pull data from the database to show past patient appointments in the appointment scheduler. Now I just need it to take the data from the pop up window and update the database with it so it's there after you close the program. I want it to update the EyeBase dataset and write it to the DB.
Here is the code so far: Public Class Form1 Public Structure ScheduleOwner Dim _index As String Dim _description As String Public Sub New(ByVal row As DataRow) [Code] .....
Here is the form that pops up to enter patient information. I think I got it, I used this code: Me.AppointmentTableAdapter1.Update(Me.TestAppointmentDataBaseDataSet1.Appointment) And I can change things, click a save button, close it, then re-open to see the changes I made. New problem is when I try creating an appointment from scratch, I get an error saying "Column 'AppID' does not allow nulls." AppID is a column in the DB that I use to number the appointments. This seems like it's looking for a value when you create the appointment but I don't want it to. How can I have it ignore that?
[code]The above code does not insert data into table. Please fix this issue.Tell me the proper and most widely used way of Inserting, Updating & Deleteing Data in Database.
I am developing a Point of Sale application and I have a form for the selling interface where i would like the user to enter an Item code (stock code) and based on the entry search for the record in the database. After Searching i would like the data of Item Code, Item Description and Unit price displayed on the form using textbox control.
(I am using Visual Studio 2010 - Express Edition)
I have tried using the following code but its not working
Private Sub txtItemCode_TextChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles txtItemCode.TextChanged Dim db As DataRow
The scenario is i get a string sent to me that i split by a space. Any thing under 60 count when the split occurs it's fine. After that i have a problem.Now there is a lot that needs to happen before we can add this newly split array to the listview.First we need to check what the name starts with. Then assign an icon to this nick.When my server class gets sent this string. Raw Numeric 353 channel names i then send it to my nicklist class.
vb Private Sub InitiateThread(ByVal nicks As String) Handles _server.NameListEventArgs Dim thread As New Thread(DirectCast(Sub() DoWorkChannelNicks(nicks), ThreadStart)) thread.Start() End Sub
Then we split the string and loop each item
vb Private Sub DoWorkChannelNicks(ByVal users As String) Dim nicks() As String = users.Split(" "c)
I'm trying to test some stuff out, like adding employees and stuff like that.
Now it used to run on an Access database, but I've made the jump to MySQL.
Now to add an employee I use this code
Private Sub btnOpslaanWerknemer_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnOpslaanWerknemer.Click Try
[Code].....
now I get the following error: "Error: MySQL.Data - You have an error in your SQL syntax; check manual that corresponds with your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '?,?,?,?)' at line 1.
I start my project in vb.net backend is sql server i have completed my design now i start my coding but i am confused for connectivity code whether i used dataset or datable which is good? please give me best connection code for retriving,updating and deleting data from database..
I'm having a problem with my forms. Basically I have one form that adds,deletes,updates transactions that are made when a registered member makes a request. Doing this then gets saved in the database under a transaction table. I then have another form which then calculates my transactions based on when the member returns the DVD or CD. However, if say for example I wish to delete a transaction record, the form that does the calculation of the fines doesn't update itself.How can I solve this? If im able to create a refresh button on the fines form wou if so how will it work as my form contains 1 combo box , 5 text boxes and 1 date picker(however the date picker is not linked to the database)?
1)This coding here is to do with "Adding,updating, deleting and saving Transaction": Public Class PDL_Add_Transaction_Form Dim flag As Integer
I am currently working on a Database that collects information. Firstly, i use a new windows form to collect that data. I have it set up to where, when the form loads, the database is ready to collect the information fields. And then the form closes on the button click to add that data, it does not update that data table view. It adds it once i close the program and debug it again.
Code: (Open the windows form) Private Sub btnAddNew_Click_1(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnAddNew.Click AddNewClientData.ShowDialog()
[Code].....
Problem two: I need to make a button that will increment a cell that was set as an Int, by one, but can't figure out how to put it into code.
How do you restore a dataset to the previous state before updating the database with a data adapter? I have a concurrency update problem that I believe to be caused by this. The update fails during the update and a rollback command is issued using a SQLTransaction object. However, now the rowstates of the rows that did not have errors have been changed to unchanged. So this record is no longer availible to be inserted into the database. When I updated the value that could not be null and then test the second update which runs just as the first does then I get a concurrency error. The update code is below:
I am sorry to keep bothering you about this damn DataGridView control ... As you might have noticed I am having a hard time with the DataGridView control ... My latest problem has to do with updating the data base file (Access) through a DataGridView control . Up to now I have managed to successfully edit an entry in the DataGridView control and moreover to successfully update the data base file itself .
The above form and its code work fine . The problem starts when I am trying to run the code of the Update button from another form . You see , I have another form , through which I change the contents of some of the cells in the DataGridView control (back in Form1) . What I want next is to simply update the data base file itself , just like I was doing with the button in the first form , after I manually changed the cell in the DataGridView control .Thus , on the second form I have a button with this code :
Form1.Button1_Click(Nothing, Nothing) (of course the Click event is declared public)I have also tried :
Form1.Button1.PerformClick()
but still nothing ...Although Form2 successfully changes the cells back in Form1 , the data base file itself does not get updated ...If I manually press the Update button in Form1 I once again successfully update the data base file , but I want to do the whole thing by calling the Update button from Form2 .
Only my local dataset updates when adding, deleting or editing records.The Source Database is supposed to update on issuing DataAdapter. Update(dataset )However, when I check my source database after running the operations it remains the same as the original.
