I have been set the task of providing a small forms app to interact with Sage Line 50 Accounts database.
Before I get started though I wondered if anyone knew if you can use VB to retrieve and write data to and from the database and if so how? I read somewhere that it's ODBC?
My office BA requested me to develop Window application to retrieve all the files from the SalesDepartment folder : F:SalesDept and write the name of the file into a TextFile and save it into this folder F:StoreFileName
I have not written this type of coding before and I need your help to show me sample coding in order for me to learn something new.
I'm trying to write a program to call Quickbase and retrieve a database and put it into an array. It's a contacts table that I need to be able to query and select different fields according to letterheads, memos, etc. I've tried to do this three different ways.
1.) Find a direct port or some way of accessing Quickbase directly, similar to connecting to an oracle database or MS Access.
2.) Export the table to MS Excel and read the data from a spreadsheet.
3.) Opening a web browser in a background processes and login to the Quickbase account, then navigate using the little XML knowledge that I have.
I just can't find a good way to do this. Any ideas or can give some help on the code to do any of the ideas?
I have three tables in SQL server which I would like to show and access on a form. Table 1 contains account data, address, contact details etc. Table two contains data attached to a Person, tel no , Mobile no, Email etc. Table three contains details on what awards the person holds, i.e. one person can hold several awards.
Therefore I have a one many relationship between the first two tables and a one many relationship between the second two tables. This is set up in SQL
The first two tables are shown on a form, table 1 via a set of text boxes, table 2 via a datagrid control.
I would like the functionality whereby I could select a row in the datagrid showing the persons name and find the Persons_ID number then use that as a filter to a second datagrid view so that only the selected persons awards show in the datagrid.
i want 2 select data from data gridview and want retrive that data into another form in to the textbox ...is it possible ? i 'm doing like this for that

EDIT: See thread at [URL] I've had a look around and I can't quite make sense of trying to get the last write time of a registry key in vb.net. Im a bit of a beginner in vb.net but I really have done an exhaustive search and cant find anything I can make any sense of. I can open subkeys and get values using .GetValue("ValueName"), but as last write time isnt a value inside the key, this doesn't here.
I have had a look around and it seems in VB6 RegOpenKeyEx was used (to open the key and get a handle), then RegQueryInfoKey was used to get the last write time (of the subkey via its handle) BUT i cant get this to work. I have tried entering the following

3. application tries to retrive data from sql server. (in this case localhost/127.0.0.1)
4. application retrieves data from test/tables/members
5. if the specified account information matches the servers data, it will let you through to the next form. Else, it will give an error that the user/pass is incorrect.
