Vb 2008 Intermittent IndexOutofRangeException Was Unhandled?
Feb 11, 2010
i have just started learning vb and am enjoying it but am having problems. i want to design a three-way dictionary that allows a user to type in a word (English, Kazakh, or Russian) and have that word translated into the other two languages. The user can also add his/her own words and translations to the dictionary. My dictionary is called: "dictionarykre" and is formatted as follows: engword=kazword=rusword. i am reading the dictionary line by line and parsing it with "=", then putting the words into arrays.i keep getting the following error intermittently: IndexOutofRangeException was unhandled. Index was outside the bounds of the array. The error throws on the "KazListBox.Items.Add(arraytextfile(1))" line.i change the dictionary and the program will work for awhile, then the error will occur again.

I was testing out an application that I created which then I recieved an error as said in this topic title. The application that I am making is one where it requires 2 form GUIs, my main one is called frmConferenceRegistrationSystem (the first picture) and my secondary one is called frmConferenceOptions (The second picture) and what they are supposed to do overall is total up the cost of registering for a conference that is selected in frmConferenceOptions and the error that I am recieving is within the ElseIf statements in the frmConferenceOptions form (third picture and first section of code) And also here is the rest of my code for both of my form GUIs at the bottom of this topic

This works but the problem is:I have 2 buttons , 1 loads 1 database1 and works fine, the seconds ones as less colums in the database like database 1 has ID,Username,Password,Version,Notes
But database2 has ID,Username,Password and not the other 2 colums.

The weird thing about this, is that when I first run it, I was able to Bind it to all the Textbox and thought everything went smoothly, but when I run it again without any changes in that code, that error suddenly appears... sometimes that error went to other dr.item(""

I'm still a newbie to programming and in school we are working with arrays. We received a program that needs to have modifications done to it and I don't understand why the "89000" amount is outside the array bounds. It is a console app. that calculates amortization.

I am seeing a strange intermittent connection failure. My application works just fine and then starts throwing connection failure exceptions. A reset of IIS is required before the app will start working again.I've been able to trace a few of the failures back to an unexpected restart of the oracle cluster but not all of them. Has anyone else seen this problem? I've searched the web but haven't found anything.
Client - Win2003 server, IIS running ASP.net 2.0.50727, code is VB.NET, ODBC connection via Oracle Client 10.2.0.1.0 Server - Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bit Production on a Linux cluster.

I have a system that gathers raw data from electronic devices, uses that data to populate a set of tables and allow uses to add/edit certain data and report on it. (Kind of basic right...NOT) There are 3 applications that I've written that use the same database.
One is a client that is on 3-4 user machines which allows them to see the data that has come in and work with it.
Two a Data-to-Information process program which takes the raw data, checks up certain information and puts the results into the database.
Third is a data gathering app that interfaces directly with the electronic devices and about 10 times per day places the raw data into a single table in the database.
If a user is in the 'client' application the data processing application crashes all over the place:
1. Database file already in use.
2. Unrecognised Database format
3. File locked exclusively by User on PC X.
Almost always on a different line of code and once when I made it retry over and over I managed to corrupt the database and had to Compact and Repair it to fix it. If no one is using the client everything works perfectly. On each client machine is a database with linked tables to the server machine. The machine that is running the Data processing is the server and the processing is using a database in a different folder that also has linked tables.
I have gone through all the recordsets in the Data Processing application and made sure that they are only using ForwardOnly and Read Only. They edit the data only with Insert, Update or Delete queries. I'm about to do the same in the Client Application as it seems to be the one that is locking everything all the time. The client machines haven't crashed on that error at all. Does it matter which version of Access is on the client and server machines? (All the clients have Access 2003 and the server has 2007 but the Database was created in 2003). Should I just convert the Access database to SQL server and be done with it?

I'm testing my Visual Basic .net application by running it in Visual Studio express.Sometimes it runs OK, but other times I get an exception (details below, if useful). I'm not sure why I get the exception as the particular part of the application that I am testing re-uses code that works OK for other features.
What should I check, what would give me a hint as to the root cause. Things I tried so far are: Rewriting some of the code to be more robust. The outcome of this was that this approach was getting out of control - I was correcting everything. I made changes such asing alternative libraries (e.g. replacing CInt with convertTo etc). Some lazy declarations, but it occurred to me that there was no problem with these with the code before my changes. And every change I seemed to solve uncovered yet another problem, another different exception So I thought something must be fundamentally wrong with my installation, and a search found discussion group posts from people experiencing something similar. The suggested remedy would be to re-install the .net framework. So I did that and the problems still occured.
Any thoughts on approach to get to the root of the problem? I'm not asking for a solution but some fresh ideas would be very welcome.

i have a very regular problem with MS Access showing random results when being written to from Visual Studio 2008. It happens on all computers including the development machine, using Vista or XP, VS 2005 or VS 2008.Is there a VB.Net flush command I can use before reading the data ?.I write data to a table and then immediately go to read that data.I can make it work if I wait up to 3 seconds before I read the data after a write, using a sleep command. Unfortunately 3 seconds is way too long. Are there any known problems with writing data to MSAccess 2003 from .Net, using VS 2008, VB.Another weird thing that happens is that only half the data is there if I write to an Access table and then go to read it immediately. Sometimes the data's there, sometimes not, with the exact same code and data.
Sometimes the whole table fills with the data from the first record. This is happening throughout my code. Anywhere there's data being written to Access there's a problem if I go to read it immediately after.Sometimes the Access table is blank, even though data has been written to it, and then on a second run of the exact same code it comes good, or gets half the data or every record is a duplicate of the first record. The code is good, so it's not a coding problem, and I can run the exact same code and get good results. So it's definitely an intermittent problem.I run all my access writes through the same code. The part of the code that writes the data is "command1.ExecuteNonQuery()". Whether I read the data from a datatable or as a merged word document, I still get the same problems. So I'm guessing that there's a problem

Basically, what this code is supposed to do is compare the text inputted in the input textbox with the text of the string answerstring. It seems to successfully compare the two, but every time I type the first char into the input textbox the program crashes, givingmythe Out of Range Exception. I assume it means the Char() "array" thats built into vb is out of bounds, however as i've set the while loop so that it only is executed when the whilecount is less than both the length of the input textbox and the answerstring, I don't see how it could be out of bounds.

I am working with a listbox that contains reportnames. Some reports will have parameters, some will not. This application lets users view and run SSRS reports. It also allows them to send email messages to one or more recipients with a web link to the SSRS report using Report Viewer. What I have done with the listbox is whenever a report that has parameters associated with it, the control (DateTimePicker) appears on the screen for the user to pick a date. When a report with no parameters is selected, it simply changes the Visible property of the DateTimePicker to false so the user won't have to use it. Everything works fine, I am able to pick a report with parameters passed as part of the link that gets sent via email to user. User clicks on it and report gets displayed with the correct parameters in the ReportViewer. However when I exit out, I get this IndexOutOfRangeException exception. Here is my code for listbox -
Private Sub lstBxReportName_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles lstBxReportName.SelectedIndexChanged
Dim y As Integer
[code]....
When I debug, error is on second Dim statement for rowViewReportNameChange. I guess I can simply include the Dim statements as part of my Try block and I can catch the exception?

I've been trying to build this application with vb .net 2005 for the last couple of weeks in a computer programming class. The purpose of the program is to parse data from an html table displayed in the webbrowser and display it in a datagridview format (I plan on expanding it later). I've coded pretty much everything, but I keep getting an error related to the arrays that neither I nor my teacher can figure out. I attached a zip file of the complete project, in case anybody who was willing to look at it needed the rest of the program. I also included an "Items.htm" file with a html table in case people wanted to test running the program.
Public Class tableForm
Private tfColumnInteger, tfRowInteger As Integer
Private DataSet As DataSet = New DataSet("HTML Parser")
Private Table As DataTable = DataSet.Tables.Add("Table")

I have a situation where I have a databound datagridview and if you try to scroll to the bottom about half way there it generates a System.IndexOutOfRangeException. However if you click on one of the header columns, causing a sort to occur, before you try to scroll all is well. Any ideas as to why I can only scroll my datagridview after it has been sorted and not before? Interesting enough if I click 'OK' it just re-generates the error. This occurs several times over and I can see the rows in the datagridview being blanked out one by one with each click of 'OK' until all visible rows are gone and then...poof...all seems fine again and I can scroll and click like normal. The first screen shot is of the initial error dialog. The second is a shot of what is happening to my datagridview as I click through the series of resulting error dialog boxes.

Picked up a legacy VB.NET project originally written for version 1.1 of the .NET framework. I'm running Vista with .NET 3.5. I have cleared out all the original error and the project will build; it just wont run.
As far as I can tell, it is trying to run 'LoginForm' but putting breakpoints in doesn't work because the error is thrown before the breakpoints are reached, regardless of where in the file they are placed.

I am having a little trouble with an 'IndexOutOfRangeException'. I think it is because when the code tries to get the DateModified col from the database it sometimes contains NULLS (the users haven't always updated the page since they created it).

We are running Crystal Reports on a Windows Server 2008 with .NET framework 3.5 SP1. I have seen many causes of the general error "The request could not be submitted for background processing." on other forums, however they tend to be persistent and repeatable affecting just a single report due to a specific formatting issue with a specific report. We are seeing this error with the below stack trace, intermittently. It affects multiple different reports we have. It affects one particular report more frequently than other reports. Once a report is affected the same error will often appear in multiple reports at approximately the same time eg. for the next 10 minutes. The same report run with the same parameters may work when run again (soon after) or the application may need restarting before the report can be successfully re run. These reports all worked previously without issue. No change in server or code seems apparent which would have precipitated this error. All code behind for this is VB.NET We have had difficulty reproducing it in test environments and upgrading to the latest version of Crystal has not helped at all.
