I have been wanting to make a file downloader (enter the website link, it browses files, with the Filter you give it, then has a download link for each file.) I haven't coded VB since 2006 and can't even remember the basic code.

I have been stuffing about with IO.Stream and Net.httpxxx but haven't managed to get the elements to line up in the right way.
I get "the given path's format is not supported" from opening the page in the standard stream, because it's not in the local file system ... that bit i understand, the bit I don't get is ... how do I achieve the equivelent of:

I read the following question to download a web page whose contents is coded in UTF-8. The page is then converted into a byte array, while I'm using a String to read contents from the page.
I need to turn UTF-8 into Latin1/ANSI since that's what RichText and MessageBox seem to use (I'm getting funny characters).
Is there a more direct way to donwload a UTF-8 page and convert it into ANSI/Latin1?
Edit: When callig MessageBox, accented characters are not shown as expected:

Does any one know how to download webpages that have a nonscript tag. I have used httpwebrequest and weclient but I always get the text in the nonscript tag. The only thing that i have gotton to work is the webbrowser but I have encountered many problems.

I am working on a task in which I have to download all flash objects swf and flv files running in web page. I have got no clue to find he source of .swf file, as mostly swf files comes from other servers. I want to find out some way to find the source / url of .swf currently running. Kindly suggest me some way.
I have 2 ideas in mind, but currently unsuccessful in implementing them
1. Using WebBrowser class and somehow find url of swf.
2. Using Pcap to fetch all http packets and after decoding, some how try to find url coming.
Probably a simple question but I cant figure it out. I have a webbrowser control, which navigates to a URL where it logs in, then a different URL where theres some information I need. I have written an application that lets me track work crews as they move from one job site to another. It runs on my local computer as a windows form. The form displays labels with the job site and crew names on them. The application is written using VB.net 2003. I wrote a program to download and play AVI files the files are large in size and long time wise. I have the files playing as they are being downloaded but i can't see how long the file is or seek reliably. i was reading that the AVI headers are in the last 512kb of the AVI file *why would't they put it at the start* lol so my question is is there a way to download the last 512Kb of the file i'm downloading. i have the Bytes Read and Length of the file while its downlaoding i'm just not sure where to go from there, or how to do it atleast. If i had the length in time of the Avi file i could set the trackbar to be able to seek properly. or if someone has an idea how i could get the time of the video by using fps and some math i could prob do it that way too but idk how i would tell how i can find how many kb are in the fps i'm sure it changes so think that way is't going to be reliable. how to get the last 512kb would be the best option not sure if it can be done even.

I'm currently working on my personal html editor. i have it where i can preview the page in a webbrowser. on maximized screen i can see the entire page as is. is it possible to keep the webbapage viewed, as viewed maximizied, in a resized browser with this size: 201, 106.
i know i won't be able to read much of the text, i just want to see the page preview, image location, etc. just a browser with view zoom properties.
In webbrowser, I am visiting a website that lists 10 items per page, I select "20 items per page". The webpage dynamically updates to display a list of 20 items.However when I view the webpage code it still shows 10 items. If I refresh the webbrowser, the code will show 20 items.

My last topic about finding a file is now resolved i just had to get the subdirectories and there will always be one so i know how to do that. My next question i am lost at. My program is going to download multiple files and each file gets downloaded to a certain directory.

I understand you can't download compiled files because of viruses but how do you use the seperate files? I downloaded something and it only gave me a bunch of .frm and .frmx files.

The text document contains links to files that need to be downloaded for my application as an update ( i have yet to figure out how to make my own installer so i am making my own updater which is MUCH simpler).
