trying to write a dynamic sql query that fetches data from oracle 10g database. My Where criteria is giving me real problems but i guess it has to do with the oracle data format. The data column is a TIMESTAMP data type storing values like 25-JAN-09 07.06.01.000000000 AM. Am trying to get rows having the columns matching a specific date( ignoring the time values), my where looks like this
WHERE to_date(COMPLY_RUN_DASHBOARD_DATE,'DD-MON-RR')='" & Now.Date & "'"i get the following error :CheckError ORA-01830: date format picture ends before converting entire input string

I have users check off lab facilities in a UI. I want to use linq to fetch corresponding records for all of the labs that they have checked off. Basically,
Dim myRecs = (From l As EpiData In myDataContext.EPIDatas Where l.facility= _
one of the checked labs
So basically, I need to write a linq query where the "strings" to match are determined at runtime. Is there any way to do this easily? I know that there is a library out there called dynamic LINQ, but (1) it's in C# and I'm writing in VB (2) I'm really just looking for a single, simple solution for this single case.

I want to (SQL) select from a table in an Oracle database, and show the results of the query in the VB application, in a Excel like manner (rows, columns, selectable, etc.). Or in a SQL developer manner. How can I do that? Browsed through a lot of tutorials and howtos on the internet, did not get anywhere. I think (and correct me if I am wrong) that it's gotta be something with DataGridView. But I don't know how to create and populate a datatable with the result of as Select statement, how to create a dataset.

I am trying to get my program to read async so it doesn't just freeze up while it fetches the data. I have:
SR = New StreamReader(WC.OpenReadAsync(New Uri(url)))

It keeps throwing the error "does not produce an expression". I remember trying this in the past, only to have the same error.

I developed an application with old VB form and binding the data from Oracle database into VB form. Actually, I tried to bind the data more than 35000 records in to grid. But, it takes more than half an hour and also form was hanged and there is no output. Can you please let me know the solution to fix it and bind the data without any hang in my application. I am trying to write VB.NET query without writing SQL stored procs. I have already gotten many dataset text queries to work. But I am having trouble with getting this scalar query to work. All I want to do is to get the result of this T-SQL query. How can I code this successfully? select (DateDiff(w, '1/1/' + '2011', getdate())) / 7 AS SELECTED_WEEK (What this code does is it returns the current week of the year). And will this query above return the value as an integer datatype or string?
I tried your answers but it gave me this exception error:

I am trying to export an excel file directory into an Oracle table as opposed to looping through the range and executing a lot of insert statements. I would think that there are better ways to accomplish this in .NET but I can't seem to find any other answer besides convert excel to csv & load it using Sql Loader or External Table. Does anyone know a cleaner & more efficient way that looping through the ranges creating & executing insert statements?

I've the data in Datagridview (2 column - wavelength, absorbance) and i need to display in text box based on some reference. let say my first reference (soot it has wavelength value plus minus 2000 (range 1998 until 2002), 2nd ref NO2 plus minus 1630 (range 1628 until 1632) and others ref.
Firstly the system will find the specified wavelength in column1 (datagridview). if wavelength(column1) found in that range it will display the value in the textbox (column2- absorbance). then the information in the textbox, need to be save in oracle.

I'm relatively new to the vb.net framework and object oriented programming. After perusing the threads for a few hours I can't quite find an answer so I'm posting this thread. I'm not necessarily looking for code examples. I just want to know if it's possible and where to look next. Basically I'm trying to build a starter application that will help me learn programming. One of the main things I want to do is to be able to dynamically (at run time) create a set of information (data) that can be manipulated via a set of static (and/or dynamic) functions/calculations. The reason I need it to be dynamic is because even though this program is really just for my own fun and perusal on my own machine (and I want it to be able to run without any outside connections (i.e. databases or servers) the data itself is going to be location (i.e.State of residence or even city) specific. Essentially most of the data will be numerical and can be of the integer type. But I'd like to be able to adjust and create new data sets if desired. From everything I've read and researched I haven't found a way to do this (at least now without an excessive amount of coding that is above my expertise). So I want to know if there is a way to do this that is relatively simple.

Why would a VB/ASPX page not return results for a query which runs fine with other Oracle clients? (Same username) The following code should first output the query and then execute it outputting a single exclamation point per record. However, it outputs the query (as it should), but does not return any rows (nor error). If I copy the query to SQL Plus (or other editor) as the same user, the query returns results.
Why might my code not output any results?

I am using Crystal Enterprise 10 to run Adhoc Query to generate reports.My database has data with 4 digits after decimal point. But, the Ad Hoc query report rounds the data to 2 digits and displays that. Is there a way I can change this default behaviour to show the data as it is without rounding it?

I am using the OLEDB adapter (Oracle OLEDB) with Oracle 10.2.0.3.0. My code generates the SQL for the query, then when I execute it into an OLEDBDataReader, the HasRows is False. However, if I output the contents of the query string, copy, and paste into SQL+ (logged in as the same user from the same client machine), it returns 993 rows. What gives?? I am having a problem with an application that displays data in datagridview depending on a selection from a combo box.The problem occurs when I want to write the data back to the database.
I get the following error:"Update unable to find TableMapping['Product'] or DataTable 'Product'."

So what i am trying to do is query each database for similar data, but becuase one of the databases is HUGE, it takes to long to go through, and i am only really working with about 1000 files on the other database. So what i need to do is have it only qurey my "Barvisit" database with the same info from the "EPRCensusMT" database. In other words i don't want the second query to go thruogh, say ten million records to just find the 1000 i need to look for.I am think maybe i can put somthing where it reads maxrec but i am not sure.

I made a query in MS Access using fields from multiple tables. I want to display stuff from it into a listbox on the form and then I need to save stuff back too it also. But I'm obviously doing something wrong cos I keep getting the error: "The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot find the input table or query 'Today'. Make sure it exists and that its name is spelled correctly." [code] Also, I have written further down objDataSet. Tables("Today's Absentees") and "Today's Absentees" is a query not a table, what needs to be written instead?
