Writing An XML Document That Has Computer Paths And Special Chars?

I'm not sure what to call this so my search results weren't very helpful. I am writing an XML document that has computer paths and special chars such as '&'. XML does not like them, so I need to find a way to convert them. I looked at Apple's iTunes XML document and they have the following:Actions & Motives = Actions '&' Motives (without the ' ')C:/Documents and Settings/mmulhearn/My Music/iTunes = C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/mmulhearn/My%20Documents/My%20Music/iTunes/

I solved this issue in this thread but there still are issues with special chars. ie 'I thought by doing parameters that it would take care of any special chars for you. Well i am still getting mysql exceptions about syntax. I look at the string it is working with and it has a "'" in it.Why are they not working as I expect them to?

I have a database where the data contains some special chars. I retrive the data from the dbase (dbf) file with a sql statement and write it into a text file using vb.net. When I write the text file some of the special characters are not written the same way as in the dbf file, its written as a box. I'm using:
Using sw As StreamWriter = New StreamWriter(dbfFile, False, System.Text.Encoding.Default)
while writing to text file. I'm not sure how to read the exact data from the database.

I am a new VB programmer and am using TextBox in VB2008. Here are the problems I experienced in TextBox -
1, After I typed number in TextBox and found I need to type another number. So I used backspace key to remove it. But at this time program quit and displayed this problem: InvalidCastException was unhandled. How to solve this issue?

I am writing a little utility to generate some SQL files. I have a file which is generated from a string array of 400+ elements. It stops writing (without throwing an error) at arround 1000 characters or 380 lines. I am clearly missing something here. Question is what? What I'm trying to here is create a mail-merge document and then use the file path of the created document to query the documents in the case folder (scanned PDF's) and send them to the printer behind the document. I do not want to open the document just send them to the printer.Document I created [code] I am unsure of how to created this string, someone told me I need to use a like command, which I haven't been able to find out to much about..Also I have no idea how to set up the print loop..I would use a shell command to send them to the network printer? I have a problem when writing some text to txt files.Here is my My.Computer.FileSystem.WriteAllText("test.txt", tekst, False)where tekst is a string variable.
When opened in some HEX editor, test.txt begins with 3 unwanted characters - ASCII values: EF BB BF. Notepad isn't showing them.

We receive an HTML document in an email which has some special pricing and products. I want to be able to parse the data, perform some lookup operations on it, assign some pricing markups, save it to a data source for future referance and do it with VB.net and a web browser. I'd really like to use MSHTML.HTMLDocument, but all the documentation I have is based on HTTP URL's, but since these HTML pages will be opened from an eMail or saved to a fileshare, they won't have the HTTP. I've also tried to read it as a text file and parse with RegEx, but it's not very effecient and to be honest, RegEx is still a fog to me.
Would anyone be kind enough to suggest a way to do this? Is MSHTML able to do it and if so; how do I set up a reference to a non-HTTP URL?

In VB.net I've got the following line that removes all non-alphanumeric chars from a string:
return Regex.Replace(build, "[W]", "")
I now need to extend this to remove non-alphanumeric chars that aren't [] or _. I've changed the line to:
return Regex.Replace(build, "[W[]_]", "")
However I'm pretty sure that this says
replace non-word or [ or ] or _
how do I negate the tests for the [] and _ chars so that it says
replace non-word and not [ and not ] and not _
Some examples:
"[Foo Bar_123456]" => "[FooBar_123456]"
"[Foo Bar_123-456*]" => "[FooBar_123456]"

I have written a program to track the membership of a local gym that works perfectly on every computer EXCEPT the computer at the gym. I am pulling out my hair trying to figure out what the difference is any why ONLY that machine throws an error.
Background: The program is written in VB.NET (2008) and calls a MS Access db (PROVIDER=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;). The computer in question is a Vista machine that is extremely slow (I think it's a Celeron with 512 RAM).
History: I have tested the exe on a Windows 7 machine in 32bit and 64bit. Tested on a 2000 and 2003 server with 32bit and 64 bit processors. Testes on a Mac running parallels with XP. Tested on machines with Office XP, 2003, 2007 and machines without Office (thinking it was a resource that was missing) Every machine works but the Vista machine.
The error occurs when the program is trying to update an existing table with a new value that is valid. The field is set to text so I know it's not a casting problem. The error message is a general exception that reveals no information. I can continue from the error but it does not complete the change to the db.
One other interesting note is that the database is accessed across the network so multiple people can use the program at the same time. Unfortunately the Vista machine is the "server" and is the home for the db. The other machines are laptops and are not always accessible on the network. If the program and db are local to the laptops then the program works perfectly. If the db is accessed across the network and the program is local to the laptop then the program crashes.

Very first time I debug the coding I haven't got much problem. But debugging it again gives me an Error AS: "A file named 'Resume.XLW' already exits in this location. Do you want to replace it?"
I was able to see this since I have enabled the display alerts. Disabling it generates a save as window.

I am attempting to write some data from my program to a word document using a template. What I would like to know is how can I duplicate a page in the word document depending on data in the program. To be more specific the user enters product data into the program. Most times it will be only one product however sometimes it will be 2 or 3 products. When it is more than one product I will need to duplicate a page in the word document to enter the second or third product information.

if they choose to use a networked version of my software, I will need the main server doing the authenticating. This is a problem, because from what I understand, it is quite easy to clone MAC addresses. I have looked into using the CPU ID and the HDD ID, but those are not unique, well at least I don't think so. Reason why I say they are not unique is because someone has the exact same CPU ID as me, and the HDD ID changes from partition to partition (same drive). Maybe the HDD ID is a partition ID instead? Anyways, I was thinking maybe I could get the Physical serial number of both the HDD and CPU, but I have not been able to find anything yet.

If the user has accepted the aggreement then call a vb.exe that display the aggrement. I have a login script that runs the vb.exe and uses a button click that records the user info to a csv file, but if the user has already agreed to the policies I do not want it run again.

We are opening a Word document from our Visual Basic 2010 application using the Word object. When we run our application under Windows Server 2008 the document name is truncated in the main window title for the document. This is not the case when we run our application under Windows XP.
