SQL Performance Timeouts - Adding Multiple Rows In Multiple Tables In The Database
Sep 12, 2011I have a vb.net web application and when a particular function runs , i get data timeouts in the rest of the application..(ie..row not found errors or column does not belong to table but it does) The function is adding multiple rows in multiple tables in the database and is running in a for loop. It seems to be all SQL related but I am not seeing anything in the error logs in SQL or in the application Right now I am assuming it is memory related where to start note..the for loop will be replaced with a bulk insert but right now I jest need to resolve the issue of the timeouts

Jan 4, 2012I am trying to select multiples rows from a database table and insert the text into several "label" controls. For example, if the database search returns 5 results. then insert the first row's text into label 1, the second row's text into label 2, and so on. The number of rows will be variable. I was thinking of a while statement. I am having a problem understanding how to even seperate multiple rows from a query in VB. Would using an array for the query results be the right way to go? row one would be row(0), row two's text would be row(1), etc.

Aug 9, 2011I am trying to append multiple rows in a SQL Server.I have connected to the MS SQL Server and with a DataAdapter, I have downloaded the Table into a DataTable and displayed it in DataGridView.I now want to programatically enter multiple rows into the DataTable and later to update the SQL Table.
I am trying to build an application to do this generically.The problem I have is that the Table and DataTable has an 'ID' Field. In the SQL DB, i is an Auto-incrementing field.When the code loops through creating new rows and entering field values, how do I handle the ID Field that is the Primary Key?

I can use a command builder to update the entire table, but I need to update all the rows (or changed rows) in specific columns. I have a column called "dPrint" which is Boolean. I'm not sure how to use the bindingsource as my datasource in an Update Command. I've tried this:

ParentTable (ParentID, Name) for user data ChildTable (ParentID, ActivityID, ...) for schedule data
Tables are linked together at the database level by ParentID which is an Identity column in ParentTable.
Both tables are data bound to a separate DataGridView on the GUI. There supposed to be a "1 parent/N children" relationship between the tables, meaning if I create a new entry in the ParentTable (a new user) I get a clean DataGrid in the child grid to type schedule data for the user. So I setup two DataAdapters for each table to fill their result into a DataSet. I also set up a DataRelation object and assign it to the DataSet to link the two tables by their ParentID columns. Also when I add a row into the ChildTable via DataGrid I use SetParentRow to set the parent row.

Error Writing To An Access 2010 Database Using VB2010
Aug 18, 2010I am writing an app in VB2010. My code parses a text file, assigns data to variables My??, and then attempts to store this data in an access 2010 (actually access 2007 format) table. Yet, whenever my code gets to MyRow.Item("Artist") = MyArtist I get an error 5 'Artist' does not belong to Table MyTable, but the field/column does exist in the table as do all the others.

I am attempting to fill a form with multiple rows from an access table based off of a parameterized query. My query works fine but I don't want to return one row at a time, I want to return all rows that match my query in multiple text boxes. I know that I can use a datagrid view to accomplish this, but I would prefer the look of a textboxes on a form. I have read through many books and searched the internet forums but think I may just not know what to search for as nothing has worked yet. Can anyone point me in the right direction. So far I have tried setting the text box value to the row().item(), creating a different dataset for each row, and even setting variables for the results of the query to then be passed to the text boxes. Since none of this work, I don't really have any starting code to post. If I could just get a starting point I could work from there, so don't feel the need to code anything for me, just set me in the right direction.
DataSet.WriteXml Not Writing Rows In Correct Order?
Mar 12, 2009I have an XML file that is being updated via ASP.NET. The user should be able to add new nodes to the XML file AT ANY LOCATION in the node tree.
The XML file is read into a DataSet using DataSet.ReadXml(filename).
A new row is added to the appropriate DataTable, using InsertAt(row, index).
I have confirmed using a DataGrid, and using a loop (For Each dRow in Table, Response.Write..) that the new Row was inserted into the table at the correct spot (in my example code, the 3rd position).
However, The WriteXml() method is writing the node to the END of the XML tree! I can't get it to see the tree with the node in the correct location.

VS 2008 : Writing Contents Of Datagridview In Formatted Colums/rows?
May 19, 2009I have a datagridview and I'd like to write it to a file in the same type of row and column format it's currently in.My first idea for doing this is to get the maximum number of characters in each column so i know how wide each column has to be formatted. Then loop through each row and write out each row while using the max characters in each column and the current cells content length to do the math to get the formatted columns to line up. Like the example below, except i'd have a lot more in it.

This takes label(1) and label(2) and writes them so no mater the length of either (to an extent) then will always be right hand aligned in two columns.

It works fine, i click button and the gridview shows all the right records. The problem is when i use more then 1 word in textbox. it shows nothing. The record in the database field may have several words, so i need to search using all words in textbox.

For grins I entered the date 11-02-2010 fully expecting it to be at the bottom of the list, not listed right after the last 11-02-2009 row and before the first 11-03-2009 row.How do I handle this so that come January 1, I won't see all the 01-01-2009 rows listed first followed by the 01-01-2010 rows then the 01-02-2009 rows, etc?

Sep 1, 2011Can anyone tell me why "Rows cannot be programmatically added to the DataGridView's rows collection when the control is data-bound." I keep getting an error "Invalid Operation Exception was Unhandled" error. All I am attempting to do is allow the user to select products from a list(or a second datagridview) and have it added to the datagridview so they do not have to type in every cell since the other cells are not visible because they do not purtain to their needs. Plus they will be able to save all items at the same time.

The user will enter data in each of the columns. The number of rows the user enters changes(is unknown). The user could enter only one product or five products.
So, once the user has entered all the products he has to enter, i want that when he clicks a button, all products will be saved to the database. A check should also be performed for correct details, and if its possible, the use of stored procedures would be better
