My program is supposed to display a randomly generated sentence on the screen (something like a screensaver) Then 'wait' for a random period between 1 and 5 minutes before cycling through to generate another sentence. How do I do that?

Basically, I'm not sure if I'm thinking along the correct lines when trying to break this down. The program is supposed to display the question "How much is _ x _?" with _ being a randomly generated number between 0-9 which I have in a label. The student inputs the answer and clicks the "Answer" button. If he gets it right, the label below outputs "Very Good!" and automatically puts a new question in the above label. If the student gets it incorrect, the output is "No, Please try again." and the student keeps trying until the question is answered correctly.
My method of thinking on this is that the random.object generator is input first so the question with the numbers are output in the first label. Then, under the Sub answer.button, enter the statements that will either check and refer to the above statements to get a new question or have the student try again until it's answered correctly. One of the other criteria for this is that I have to use a function for the calculation. Would the function statement, because it has to return a value, go before the answer.button code or after?

I have two images on my VB pictureBox one of it is randomly generated on the picBox(to any location) and the other is a normal image that can move around the picBox area using left right up and down buttons. The problem is that when ever the normal picture gets to the random one, it goes under the random picture and the task is to restrict the normal picture from going into the walls of the random one. when it gets to the wall, top, bottom left and right, it should stop moving.

View 5 RepliesI am setting up a game for my final visual basic program in my computer programming class, and it is supposed to compare what you type into a textbox to a randomly generated password, and then return whether the last character you entered had a higher, lower or the exact same ascii value as the corresponding character in the randomly generated password. Well, in order to test it, I set up labels to compare the two characters... when you type in ALT + 125, the ascii value returns 125, as it should, and it says that the ascii value of the correct character is 142. I typed in ALT + 142, and the character's ascii value, according to what the label puts out, is 196... obviously its converting dec into hex or oct or something... but how do I fix it?I can also tell you that when I typed in 196 to see if it was reversed or something stupid like that, it printed that the ascii value was 49... what's up with that?!

My timer is working perfectly and counts from 0 -8. My randomly generated number works too, so how do i get the timer to stop when it reaches the random num?

I want to be able to run a thread and then at a certain point pause it and wait for the user to enter some text into a text box and then when they press submit i want the program to run again from where it left off.

I've got a little code that just reads and displays all the folders in a particular directory. What I want to happen though is for the program to pause 1 second after adding a new folder to the listbox. When I have Sleep(1000) it simply freezes completely.

I need a series of sentences appear on my screen one after the other. I want to have the possibility of:
1) adding new sentences (as many as I want);
2) make them appear randomly;
3) control the time until the next sentence appears (or may be go to the next one by press of a button) (for EACH sentence(for short sentences shorter for long longer));
4) terminate the operation any time.
I imagine it like this: I start the program/application/file -> first sentence appears e.g. "I like ice cream" (randomly out of those that are in the body of the program or in the outside text file) -> it stays on the screen for 2 seconds (controllable) -> next sentence appears e.g. "Lisbon is the capital of Portugal" -> 2 seconds (controllable) -> "Apple is a fruit" and so on in a loop randomly choosing the sentences until I terminate the run of the program.
So my question is: What is the script? And what exactly do I have to do to realize that? My VB level is: installed it yesterday, learnt how to create a button and make "WELCOME TO VISUAL BASIC 2010" message appear on my screen, search all over the internet trying to solve my problem but found only how to generate random numbers.
I want to know how to change the form to well another screen. Example:In the popular mcdonalds flash game you can scroll through varius screens such as the restaurant, the farm, etc. You can still play the game though and it's not just a picture. Another example would be a pause/menu screen where you could interact with it. Could I use more than one form but when they play the game they can only see the first one? Then when a certain event happens it changes to the other form or something?

Is there a "best practices" way to parse a rich-text string (which contains the content of a several page document) so that I can identify the "start of a sentence"?The task at hand is this: basically, after making replacements in the text (substituting "markers" with actual data values), I then need to go back and see if any of the replacement data occurred at the start of a sentence, ensure that the first letter of that replacement is capitalized.
I can certainly find occurrences of sentences within paragraphs (i.e. a period followed by one or more spaces), but it is identifying the sentences at the start of paragraphs that would be the main challenge.In looking at the rich-text string in Notepad, I see that a paragraphs start with "par", but there are many variations, depending on other formatting, etc.
