VS 2010 - Stopping Timer When Reached To Randomly Generated Number
Nov 27, 2011
Basically I am trying to get my timer to stop when it reaches a randomly generated number.
I have dimmed num2 as integer (num2 is timer)
I have dimmed num3 as integer (num 3 is random number)
I have done num3 = randNum.Next (0, 8)
My timer is working perfectly and counts from 0 -8. My randomly generated number works too, so how do i get the timer to stop when it reaches the random num?
I have tried;
if num2 = num3 then
timer1.enabled = false
But that didn't work

Beginning VB 2010, had a project that requires us to create a list box of 25 randomly generated 0s or 1s. Problem is when I put the loop in, it only repeats the same random number, not different one each loop. What am I doing wrong?This is the code I have so far...Code in Question:
'Declare new random object
Dim RandomGenerator As New Random
intRandomNumber = RandomGenerator.Next(0, 2)[code]......

Basically, I'm not sure if I'm thinking along the correct lines when trying to break this down. The program is supposed to display the question "How much is _ x _?" with _ being a randomly generated number between 0-9 which I have in a label. The student inputs the answer and clicks the "Answer" button. If he gets it right, the label below outputs "Very Good!" and automatically puts a new question in the above label. If the student gets it incorrect, the output is "No, Please try again." and the student keeps trying until the question is answered correctly.
My method of thinking on this is that the random.object generator is input first so the question with the numbers are output in the first label. Then, under the Sub answer.button, enter the statements that will either check and refer to the above statements to get a new question or have the student try again until it's answered correctly. One of the other criteria for this is that I have to use a function for the calculation. Would the function statement, because it has to return a value, go before the answer.button code or after?

I have a timer on a page in ASP.NET.
After a certain period of time elapses, I want to disable the timer.
I want to put a static variable in the timers tick event that will track how many seconds have elapsed.
My question is, will this work?
If user X and Y are viewing the page will they both have separate local static variables?
What is the best method of shutting down an ASP.NET timer after a certain elapsed time?

I have two images on my VB pictureBox one of it is randomly generated on the picBox(to any location) and the other is a normal image that can move around the picBox area using left right up and down buttons. The problem is that when ever the normal picture gets to the random one, it goes under the random picture and the task is to restrict the normal picture from going into the walls of the random one. when it gets to the wall, top, bottom left and right, it should stop moving.

Below is a form which produces a graph, the idea is to produce 6 random numbers from a range (0,6) place the numbers in an array then use these numbers to produce columns on the graph, however at the moment it is using the numbers more than once, how can I get it to just use the values once only in the array.
Private Sub btnGraph_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnGraph.Click
txtAns.Text = ""
g.Clear(Me.BackColor)
g.DrawLine(Pens.Black, 50, 70, 50, 420)

I am setting up a game for my final visual basic program in my computer programming class, and it is supposed to compare what you type into a textbox to a randomly generated password, and then return whether the last character you entered had a higher, lower or the exact same ascii value as the corresponding character in the randomly generated password. Well, in order to test it, I set up labels to compare the two characters... when you type in ALT + 125, the ascii value returns 125, as it should, and it says that the ascii value of the correct character is 142. I typed in ALT + 142, and the character's ascii value, according to what the label puts out, is 196... obviously its converting dec into hex or oct or something... but how do I fix it?I can also tell you that when I typed in 196 to see if it was reversed or something stupid like that, it printed that the ascii value was 49... what's up with that?!

I've been trying to create a timer that waits for another timer to finish with its coding and, when it's finished, executes a series of code before stopping itself.
This isn't the code for the actual program I wanted to implement this self-stopping timer in, but it's simple and has the exact same problem:
Public Class Form1
Private Synchro As New Timer()
Private Sub MeLoad() Handles Me.Load
[Code].....
The idea here is that it's suppose to (using a timer) show the messagebox ONCE and ONLY once per button click. However, what seems to happen (despite the fact that I have 4 ways of trying to tell it to stop) is that the program creates multiple messageboxes until there are a total of about 49 messageboxes on the screen at the same time. I don't know if I'm using the wrong event (unlikely as Tick seems to be the only timer event) or there's a way of stopping the timer that I don't know.

I'm new to VB and relatively fresh in programming in general. I'm trying to write code to make a label flash red. The method involves using a timer. Problem is, it flashes, but I can't figure out how to make it stop. xD Here's my

I have a background worker which runs, at the start it stops a timer which has it's interval set to 500ms, at the end of the bgworker sub it starts it again. I've debugged and found out that the line that starts the timer up again (tTimer.Enabled=True) runs. However the timer does not resume. I'm don't know, but I'm thinking perhaps because I'm stopping and starting it on another thread it's not resuming properly or the sub it was attached to (via AddHandler) has been reset or something so it's running but not running the code in the sub it was attached to. If I never stop the timer in the code, it continues to run just fine, but I need it to stop at the start.

Alright, so I'm still working on the slot machine. I have three timers all independently going for my three "wheels" of the slot machine.
My issue, is that I'm trying to make a Stop button to stop each timer one at a time, and I'm not understanding why this code isn't working. The logic completely makes sense, and the first "wheel" stops when I click the button, however, it doesnt appear to stop the other two timers.

I'm working with a random number that generates a price for a house between 1 and 100 dollars (obviously very realistic).
Dim Housecost As Integer = (Int((100 * Rnd()) + 1))
My problem is that I put that number in the public class which does generate the number but only once. But I need the number to be re-generated every time a button is clicked. Now I would put this code snippet in the buttons Sub but there are 3 other subs in the code that call for that randomly generated number and the only way that I know of that allows all the subs to read this random number is to put it in the public class. So how do I put the number in a place where all Subs can read it and can be called to re-generate when needed?

I am using some arrays that are pre-filled and I am having a random number generated between 0-10. That random number will then go in to all 5 arrays and pull the item from that location. I think try to take the sentence that is generated into another string. Once that is complete I then go through the final array to pull all the sentences and concatenate them together.
Currently I've only been able to get 1 sentence to print out of 5...a fresh pair of eyes would prob see where I am going wrong...I've been at this for awhile and wouldn't mind some advice to where I am going wrong.

I've got a global random type variable, let's call it rRandom.In my code, I generate a random number like below:
Dim iRandom As Integer = rRandom.Next(0, x)
9 out of 10 times iRandom is 0, the other time it was 1. The code isn't on a timer, it happens when I do something (say clicking a button), so the frequency of the code being called is about 2-3 seconds, I say this because I've had similar issues when generating random numbers really fast in a timer, or with a for loop IIRC.X is a variable that, presently, starts at 3, and will decrease until 0, in which it'll return back to 3. Obviously, if X is 0, iRandom will be 0, but it shouldn't be 0 all the time.I'm declaring the variable globally because I remember, again, having similar issues using local variables, idk whether I should be or not.

I have an application that is on a server running. The way I have it setup is I put it on the Windows Scheduler to run at certain times. We now need to run it constantly on the server. I change the code to put in a loop until I pause or stop it. One issue I have found is that I can kick it off but when I close out of my remote session the application stops.
How do I keep my application to keep running even after I sign out of RDP?
