The problem that I am having is that instead of displaying "hello" I want it to add the listbox items to the array.
Can you have it randomly pick a value from an array?
how to have the code randomly pick a memory location in an Array without having it filled, perferably in VB.NET Thinking of the logic, I was thinking
Dim random As Random
Dim tic(2, 2) As String
random.Next(tic(2,2))
Would putting the array as a parameter would randomly pick a memory location in an array?
I need to randomly pick an element from an array and I can only use that element three times,I can randomly pick the element but how do I go about only using it three times.

I'm working on creating a very simple dice game for class (not for gambling purposes). The users has already entered their total amount of money, and are are able to wager for every round. We were supplied with 6 different picture files to represent the 6 sides of the dice. It will be located in the C:\Temp folder, and after the user clicks a play button, the form (frmDice) will appear, which has two pictureboxes(pbDice1 & pbDice2) located on it.

I have this code to pick a random number Between X and Y
X = Minimum Number
Y = Maximum Number
But the problem is i wanted to know if there is a better random function than the one i have.
Because right now i put
Min = 1
Max= 2
and it keeps picking 1
if i had min =1 and max =2 i want it to pick 1 sometimes and 2 sometimes
and now i tried min = 1 max = 3 and it never picks 3, it only picks 1 and 2
ok

I'm working with a random number that generates a price for a house between 1 and 100 dollars (obviously very realistic).
Dim Housecost As Integer = (Int((100 * Rnd()) + 1))
My problem is that I put that number in the public class which does generate the number but only once. But I need the number to be re-generated every time a button is clicked. Now I would put this code snippet in the buttons Sub but there are 3 other subs in the code that call for that randomly generated number and the only way that I know of that allows all the subs to read this random number is to put it in the public class. So how do I put the number in a place where all Subs can read it and can be called to re-generate when needed?
In a project I'm working on, I've assigned each user a unique ID with the following code. [code] However, I want to replace the number at the end (RecordCount) with a randomly generated sequence of 4 numbers (no 2 can be the same).

Basically I am trying to get my timer to stop when it reaches a randomly generated number.
I have dimmed num2 as integer (num2 is timer)
I have dimmed num3 as integer (num 3 is random number)
I have done num3 = randNum.Next (0, 8)
My timer is working perfectly and counts from 0 -8. My randomly generated number works too, so how do i get the timer to stop when it reaches the random num?
I have tried;
if num2 = num3 then
timer1.enabled = false
But that didn't work
I am making an application that randomly generates numbers. I then have to find out if those numbers are even or odd. Then place them in the corresponding array ( EvenNumbers() or OddNumbers() ). Then display the random numbers array then the even and odd numbers array. I am up to the point where I have the generated numbers and can tell if they are even or odd, but can't get them into an array. I am trying to do it like this....

I have a form with one richtextbox and one button. The idea is that:
Form Load: data read from text file into arrayButton Click: random number generated, then used to select the string whose index number matches the random number generated
My StreamReader is working correctly and I can create random numbers with no problem, but I'm stuck on how I can use this random number to extract the corresponding string. I keep get the error saying QuoteObject reference not set to an instance of an object.
My code is below:
Imports System.IO
Public Class Form1
Dim questions(69) As String
Dim i As Integer

I am writing a who wants to be a millionaire console application in VB and need to write the 50/50 bit. I have tried searching for a solution but i couldn't find anything that would solve my problem. The questions and answers are stored in an array and i need to be able to call a random answer from the array.

View 4 RepliesBasically, I'm not sure if I'm thinking along the correct lines when trying to break this down. The program is supposed to display the question "How much is _ x _?" with _ being a randomly generated number between 0-9 which I have in a label. The student inputs the answer and clicks the "Answer" button. If he gets it right, the label below outputs "Very Good!" and automatically puts a new question in the above label. If the student gets it incorrect, the output is "No, Please try again." and the student keeps trying until the question is answered correctly.
My method of thinking on this is that the random.object generator is input first so the question with the numbers are output in the first label. Then, under the Sub answer.button, enter the statements that will either check and refer to the above statements to get a new question or have the student try again until it's answered correctly. One of the other criteria for this is that I have to use a function for the calculation. Would the function statement, because it has to return a value, go before the answer.button code or after?
So how would I use .next (random numbers) to randomly select something from a list of numbers but it can't repeat the number?I could do:
dim num as integer
dim r as new random
num = r.next(1,5)
if num = 1 then
elseif num = 2 then
etc.
That wouldn't work because it would repeat.If I donwload someone's game can I disect it in VS? :0 I tried going to open project, then I went to the folder and clicked open. It brought me inside of the folder so I tried to open the game but there is no form1 there. It says the games name then .exe in the explorer-like thing in the top right?Also, how would I have a value or something in a label and access it from a button.
Example:This is in a label.
Dim number as Integer
number = 0
Then in the button do
Label.number = 0
How would I do something like that? I want to use that a lot as I did in a different language.
I need to write a program that requests a high number and a low number from the user, then the program searches the array and finds all elements within the two numbers. The program is used to search for past presidents, so if I type 43 for low number and 44 for high number, the program will display:
George Walker Bush
Barack Hussein Obama
I think I have an idea of how to search up to a certain point, but not to stop at a certain point....Here is the code that I have for that particular sub procedure:
Quote:
Private Sub btnDisplayRqst_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnDisplayRqst.Click
Dim sr As IO.StreamReader = IO.File.OpenText("PRESIDENTS.TXT")

I have to search within an array and display the number of occurrences that a value within the array appears. I know that my code is incorrect but this is what I have so far. If anyone can point out what I am doing wrong that would be great.
