I'm trying to work out how i can make my multithreaded app stop at a certain point and wait for the user to type something into a text box and click ok. It must then carry on and when a different thread gets to that point it stops again and waits for the user to input some text again.

how to tell a program to wait or pause without using a timer control.
I did a bit of Lua scripting a few years back and the function was: Wait(5) or however long you needed the program to pause.

In my application I have a loop that makes calls to a website to download data. I'm using a DownloadDataAsynch call with a handler.
I'm making many such calls in a loop. What I'd like to do is, if I have more than a certain number of replies pending, I should pause the loop and let the data handlers run.
How do I do that?

I have a thread running on my application that checks a database every so often to decide whether or not to update nodes in a treeview.
Each treeview node represents a document and I have an open button that opens the document for the user.
When the document is opened, I wanted to suspend the thread that refreshes the node list until the document is closed.
I have MyThread.Suspend and MyThread.Resume. But the document viewer is on another thread.
I created functions for suspending/resuming the thread in the application. I have delegates in the viewer to call those functions from another thread. But I'm still getting an Error. "Thread is not user-suspended. Cannot be resumed" or something of the like.
But I realize that Suspend and resume are obsolete functions, so what class or objects should I be looking into and if it didn't take up too much of your time, a small example as well?

Okay so I have a webbrowser that navigates to 1 page and I want it to wait 5 seconds and go to the next page, then I want it to wait 5 seconds and go to the next page I want it to navigate to and so on... I tried thread.sleep but I don't want to have the form stop completely in case someone wants to minimize the form. I thought about using a timer to tell it how long it wants to stop and go.

I want to be able to enter (type in) data into a combobox as well as picking from the list. In earlier VB there was AfterUpdate event so that I could enter in the data I wanted. Now I have tried Keypress, Enter, and others and they all want just one character or number. If I try to enter a two-digit number it doesn't wait.

I'm using speech synthesis to voice a prompt upon entering a textbox. Problem is the prompt is heard before the cursor enters the textbox and the user doesn't like this. How can I get the prompt to wait until the textbox has been entered?
I asked a similar question before but that was only about the first textbox on the form and now I realize the problems exists on all the textboxes.

I am trying to allow a user to press enter in a text box to trigger a text change of an object...
1. Say u put 2 in a text box called "Number" and
2. When you press enter,
3. Another object named and shaped as a book to change it's text, that u can see on the picture to "write"..
4. Originally the book will have the text "Start" on it
Do I changed the "number text box" enter event?
Private Sub xNumberTextBox_Enter(ByVal sender As Object,
ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles xNumberTextBox.Enter
Me.NumbertextBox.AcceptsReturn = True
end sub
Is what I have so far.....

Is there a synchronous wait function that won't tie up the UI-thread in .NET WPF? Something like:
Sub OnClick(sender As Object, e As MouseEventArgs) Handles button1.Click
Wait(2000)
'Ui still processes other events here
MessageBox.Show("Is has been 2 seconds since you clicked the button!")
End Sub

I have been reading the async design patterns on MSDN and the general idea makes sense to me but in practice it is proving to be more difficult. I am working on a project utilizing VMWARE VIX.
HTML Code: [url]. Each function such as connecting to a host server, retrieving properties, etc. can be executed in two different ways.
Connecting to a host using a blocking Wait:
Code:
Dim m_lib As New VixLib
Dim m_hostJob As VixCOM.IJob
[CODE]...
Code:
Dim m_lib As New VixLib
Dim m_hostJob As VixCOM.IJob
dim m_callback as VixCOM.ICallback
[CODE]...
The problem with the VIX SDK is that sometimes the functions never return, hanging the application. dblock.
HTML Code:[URL] came up with a library that specifies a timeout value. When the timeout runs out the method aborts and returns regardless whether it finished or not.
The callback method is an active wait where the code continues to execute. What I want to implement is a blocking wait with a timeout. The ICallback interface has one sub OnVixEvent(IJob,Integer,IVixHandle). This method is fired at least twice, first when some progress is posted and second when it is complete. The first call to this method can be one second after registering the callback or 30 seconds, so I can not rely on this method to block the main thread. how to create some kind of async result class that would block the main thread from executing until either a timer runs out or the OnVixEvent method returns an Operation Complete signal that also implements ICallback.

I'm trying to extract a piece of text from within the string, defining both a starting point and an ending point. For instance, say I want to search for the text found between "That is a " and " car" in the string "That is a red car", so it would return "red".I know you can use .SelectionStart and SelectionLength, but the length of the word can change, so the selection length can vary. What I want is to establish a specific starting point and a specific ending point from which to extract the text from the string.

am trying trying to write some code for a ComboBox that does the following:
1. Allow the user to enter text into the combo box to type entries contained in the list source.
2. Enable autocomplete to assist the user in selecting entries in the list source, both from dropped down state and non dropped down state.
3. Restrict the user from typing an entry that doesn't exist in the list source.
My requirements are:
1. The ComboBox must run some code after a selection has been made or the user has finished typing an entry (not after the focus has been moved to another control)
2. The code must only run once after the user has made a selection from the combobox or has finished typing an entry
The problem: To achieve the above functionality, I had to run code on numerous event's. Sureley there is a better way, here are the events and the reason for the code:
SelectedIndexChanged:This is the code that is run when the user makes a selection. No Mystery here
KeyDown:
Must Run
If e.KeyCode = Keys.Return Then
ComboBox1_SelectedIndexChanged(Nothing, Nothing)
End If

I have a DataGridView control in my Windows Forms Application. I am adding rows to the grid using a background thread. I change the form's cursor to Waitcursor when the process starts and back to Default when it ends. This works well for the form, but not for the grid. When the form's cursor is changed back to default, the grid's cursor does not change, although the cursor over the rest of the form does.
I am updating the grid from a background thread? (The cursor is being changed from the UI thread directly). The background process raises an event, the handler checks the InvokeRequired property of the grid and decides if it needs to "Invoke" the method again from the main thread. So, in effect the actual UI update happens from the appropriate thread. I am not sure if this means that I am "using a background thread" or not.

I have a problem with releasing locks on a thread. [Code] If Me.IsStarted Then 'checks if my service is started and ready of service requests 'code here to enqueue my job and objRxResult with the service so it can populate it with the result before Pulsing back 'the service has its own thread that it dequeues jobs off of and processes them on it own time 'during this key enqueue phase we block attempts to stop the service, thus the _objIsStarted lock [Code].
