I think this might be related to threading (which I havent really worked with)..
In this app I'm developing, I am downloading a file when a user clicks a button. However, since the file is 20mb or so, its kinda unfortunate that the application hangs while doing it...
Do I have to go into multithreading here, or is there a simpler solution? (Or maybe multi-threading is simple?)
Is there any other way to download a file without the entire program freezing? whenever i call my.computer.network.downloadfile the VB stops furthering to the next code allowing my game to run choppily.

I wrote a program to download and play AVI files the files are large in size and long time wise. I have the files playing as they are being downloaded but i can't see how long the file is or seek reliably. i was reading that the AVI headers are in the last 512kb of the AVI file *why would't they put it at the start* lol so my question is is there a way to download the last 512Kb of the file i'm downloading. i have the Bytes Read and Length of the file while its downlaoding i'm just not sure where to go from there, or how to do it atleast. If i had the length in time of the Avi file i could set the trackbar to be able to seek properly. or if someone has an idea how i could get the time of the video by using fps and some math i could prob do it that way too but idk how i would tell how i can find how many kb are in the fps i'm sure it changes so think that way is't going to be reliable. how to get the last 512kb would be the best option not sure if it can be done even.
View 4 RepliesI was messing around with the listview Control first,, And when i got it working i thought what's this backgroundworker thing,,so i read up on what info MS had on the MSDN page..and slapped it in here..and i thought i had it working ok until i tried to move my project application to the side to reply to a instant message i got..and then i noticed that it froze up .and looked like it was using alot of system resources,But wait let me back up just a bit.originally i was trying it with a fairly small number of items, and then i seen on here where someone had posted a rather large index for testing his app with,,and while trying to load that list that's when the issue was noticed i don't really plan on loading a list as big as that test index was but, I would still like to know why the program did what it did using the code below.I'm not really asking for it to be too altered, i kinda like all the controls i have in it the moment,, and the way it loaded as well.

I have a simple program with a web browser control and a button that causes it to navigate to a certain web page, as well as an input and another button for entering a url directly.Everything was working fine until I started messing with the document completed event in the control.The form loads a url initially and after that 80% of the time it freezes when clicking the button or entering a new url. I deleted the document completed code and now it still freezes a majority of the time.

The problem is, that because of varying file sizes, I need my outter loop to wait until a file is downloaded. What would be the most efficient way to do this? I am using System.Net.Webclient As of right now the downloading works somewhat, I get about 24-27 of 94 files. The download method I am using is synchronous btw.
