I have written tons of websites with PHP and MySQL, now I want to combine a website with a program on the computer.I have searched google, but I cannot find a good tutorial on how to use MySQL on a server with Visual Basic.NET I need to connect to my MySQL database, read data, and write data.

View 3 RepliesIn a college where I'm employed, we are currently testing (dry-run) the new enrollment system I have developed. The application has several modules (accounting, cashiering, course scheduling, admission, advising, grading) installed in different offices. We are using MySQL Server 5.1 and the front end was developed using VB.Net.
The system has 1 computer server and 25 clients. I have noticed, using MySQL Administrator, that the clients' connections persists although I have used using syntax for all my data access/manipulation codes. I thought after end using statement the connections would automatically be released.
i had an old oledb connector from a .net 2003 application i tried to follow the same steps i used for that but it wont allow me to edit the access database.i was trying to avoid using sql strings because my database is rather large and the primary use of this db is for data entrys.

and using a registration system (found in codebank here), I'd validate it like that. I just need to know how to read and write from it. All the ones on google are too vague, or focus on the wrong part.
So I have a database in Microsoft Access (its path is c:database.mdb). There are two tables. Table1 and Table2. I would like to read each row of Table1 to an array, and write a row to Table2.

I am trying to use a .dll in .Net that was written in C++ and was previously used in a VB6 application. I get the error mentioned above. I see lots of posts referring to how VB6's long data type is different in .Net but these fuctions use only integers and strings. Can anyone tell me what is wrong with this?

I am working on an application that starts a few threads every second. The threads don't do much, and everything seemed fine. I monitor the number of threads running, and I have never seen it higher than 4.
Last night I started the app and this morning I had this.
System.AccessViolationException: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.
The threads can make changes to two List(of Strings) and I had SyncLock's surrounding the code that did that. It has been running for several hours again and all seems well.
My question is that I found a place in the UI thread that was copying the list without the lock. Could that have caused the error?
how to debug something that isn't going to fail conveniently?
Using VB.Net and SQL Server 2008 R2: I have recently had a database that using sp_who2 reflects a connection ".Net SqlClient Data Provider" is still active even though the .Net application has closed and disposed of all connections.

When I go to "new project" and choose "Windows Form Application" I get this error.I have tried multiple uninstall/reinstall with no result.A microsoft reply to this suggested that I needed: " .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 " I checked, and I did not have the .netframework 2.0 service Pack 1.
When I tried to download and install the above from Microsoft.com, the istaller said that "it was not allowsed" and I was not able to install the service pack 1.
I tried Uninstalling net framework 3.5, 3.0, 2.0 and then reinstalling .netframework 2.0 sevice pack 1; then reinstalling Visual basic 2008 express edition. At the reinstall of Visual basic 2008, .netframework 2.0 sevice pack 1 is unistalled by .net framework service pack 2.When I check the foruims for simiar problems, the formus are mostly for Visual basic 5.0, or other programs that I do not have.
