VS 2008 AVRdude Encrypt/decryption HEX File On The Fly In VB?

Oct 8, 2010

i am looking to decrypt my HEX code file for an ATTiny chip and programming it using the AVRDude command line interface. Problem being, i do not want the user to be able to see what the HEX file is at any given time. VB.net Cryptography crypt the HEX file before i put it onto the server and then decrypt it after the program downloads it from the server and runs it through the program without seeing the decrypted HEX file?

Obviously the HEX file can not stay encrypted while being programmed to the ATTiny chip so how can i go about it so that i can create the original HEX file to be programmed within the program without having to worry about it writing a temporary file to the hard drive and then deleting it afterwards? (Because they could close the program after it does that temp file and they would be able to navigate and open it and see the code)

Encrypt / Decrypt A Non-text File

Nov 12, 2009

I am interested in knowing if non-text files like .xls/.xlsx or .doc files can be encrypted... From the Devlopers Guide on MSDN, I found code snippets that allow encryption / decryption of .txt files. This works absolutely fine. However, I would like to know if similar procedure can be used to encrypt/decrypt file other than .txt file.

Encrypt And Decrypt Text File?

Jul 23, 2009

I save data from datagridview to text file . I also load the same data from text file into datagridview for edit and update the same thing to text file. Now i want to make my Drill layer header.txt in encrypted format to prevent anyone to open that file and modify out of program. They only can modify it through the program How can we do like this?

My Drill Layer Header.txt file is like this

T240C3.175F012S27H2000
T239C0.95F034S55H1000
T236C1.2F029S48H2000

[code]....

This code can encryp the text file. But accrding to this code EncryptFile("c:\Drill Layer Header.txt", _ "c:\Drill Layer Header original1.txt", _ sSecretKey) It ask for input and output file. So it take data from Drill Layer Header then encrypt the save in drill layer header original.txt. I want it to take data from drill layer header and encrypt and save in same file.

VS 2008 Save File And Encrypt Or Have Unique Save Name?

Mar 19, 2009

My question is simple (the answer may not be...), What I am looking for is a way to save a file as an encrypted file (so know one can open it except in visual basic or a way to save it with a unique ending that only visual basic will recognize. I will also need to know of a way to open or load the file to.

This is going to be used in a game I am working on (and yes...I know visual basic isn't really meant for games, but it is coming together pretty well). I was originally going to have it save as a text file, but then everyone could open, read it and even change there stats. That is what this file will contain, the stats for their character, and when they load it, it will place the values into the correct spot.

I am a partial beginner or intermediate coder, I can understand code, I just don't know all there is, like saving and loading, and this is probably a little harder.

[2008] Use The Treeview To Display The Text Of A Rtf (rich Text File) File When An Specific Node If Clicked?

Hi, i'm trying to use the treeview to display the text of a rtf (rich text file) file when an specific node if clicked.HomeOMGWOOTFor example, if i pick OMG, i want the text of lol.rtf to be displayed on a richtextbox. But somehow i just can't manage to get it... I know to import the text of a .txt file to a textbox, but using the treeview makes it more complicated. This is the code im using right now:

Private Sub TreeView1_NodeMouseClick(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.TreeNodeMouseClickEventArgs) Handles TreeView1.NodeMouseClick
Select Case e.Node.Index
Case 0

Another thing is, that i can't import the *.rtf text into a richtextbox and i don't know why.

[2008] Using The RSACryptoServiceProvider's Encrypt Method Properly

Dec 30, 2008

the CryptoStoreTest example posted here at VBForums, I've managed to store an RSA key in the PC's CryptoStore, however I have yet to manage to use it to encrypt data. Does anyone have any practical experience with the RSACryptoServiceProvider they'd be willing to share? I usually get an exception with an unimaginative message: "Bad length.", or I get non-matching results when using the same key on the same file. The MSDN documentation is equally mysterious How do I get the maximum length I may use for the Encrypt method? MSDN mentions something about a hash's length but so far I have found no hash in the RSA algorithm...

VB 2008 App - Encrypt Database Connection String In App.Config

Sep 21, 2011

I know this topic has been addressed a million times but please help me out. I have read so many articles on HOW TO encrypt and decrypt the app.config file but I need to know WHEN and WHERE I should encrypt it.

The problem arose because we found an AppName.exe.config file on a users computer and the database username and password was clearly visible. I understand that the .config file gets created during the VB app install process and is used
by the application. I then learned about the aspnet_regiis.exe tool and ran it on the app.config file inside my VB project. I am guessing that was the wrong thing to do.

When I now install the app on user desktops, it gives an error stating failed to decrypt the connection string. Also, when one of my other developers attempts to open the project in his copy of visual studio on his computer, he receives an error when trying to access the setting portion of the project properties. We store all of our projects on a file server and any developer can access the projects via a mapped drive on their computer.

So how am I supposed to encrypt the .config file. If I can't encrypt the App.config file in the development environment, then I'm guessing I have to perform the encryption on the users PC during the install process? How do I do that? Or is that what I am supposed to do?

Just for reference, here is the aspnet_regiis command I ran.

aspnet_regiis.exe -pef "connectionStrings" S:ProjectsDevelopmentVB.netPTPUSourceCodePTPU -prov "DataProtectionConfigurationProvider"

One last thing, maybe it's my misunderstanding of the issue but if this problem has existed since .Net 2.0, why has an option not been built into the development studio to encrypt connection strings?. This would seem to be a very common issue, even their own dataset wizard creates connection strings that are clearly readable.

Design A Program That Can Encrypt And Decrypt Messages Stored In Simple Text Files Using A Private Key Stored In A Separate File?

Jun 13, 2011

Need to design a program that can encrypt and decrypt messages stored in simple text files using a private key stored in a separate file. Software should also be able to allow the users to enter simple messages that either displays the encrypted or decrypted message. The encryption method should use a simple substitution method. It should be set out in the following format:

Example (the "@" is the separator):

@
The character The Code End of line
A @ 4gh EOL
B @ 84!9 EOL

Has to use the 256 ASCII character codes. The separator will be used to separate the character and its corresponding code. Here are the pseudocodes I have come up with:

 Read any private key file
separator = readline(file);
while not EOF(file) do
tempStr = readline(file);

VS 2008 - Simple Text -> Xml Program - Save The Contents Of The Bottom Text Window To An Xml File

Dec 23, 2009

I have this Quiz software that lets you create online multiple choice quizzes which are great for studying (I am in grad school and I'm trying to use everything I can to learn). So the Quiz software is great but it only lets you input questions by hand, one by one. I took a look at the .xml file that the quiz program spits out and came up with the idea to try and make a converter so that I can import many questions at once. I was hoping to try and solve this limitation by doing the following:

Take a .doc that say a tutor gives us with a bunch of practice questions, and then take that into Crimson Editor, and then format it so the question is on line 1, the multiple choice answers are on lines 3,4,5, and 6, (for the next question, the question would be on line 11, and the answers on lines 13, 14, 15, and 16, and so on) and then take that saved .txt file into my program, hit the generate button, and it will spit out the .xml file, and then import that into the quiz software to generate the online quiz.

Here is an attached screenshot of my program layout so far:

I figured out how to open a text file by watching simple youtube tutorials, but I don't know how to have it generate the stuff and have it show up in the bottom text box. I know how to do the coding to convert the txt to proper xml code but I don't know how to be able to save the contents of the bottom text window to an xml file.
