This is what i need my program to do...I have a form with 1 textbox and 2 buttons (save and load) If i type information into the textbox and then click save, i need it to encrypt the text first and then save the file to database If i click the load button i need it to decrypt the file and display the decrypted data into the textbox i just need a way to save my text files so the information inside them cant be changed without using my program but yet again i find myself at a loss as to how i do this.

View 19 RepliesMy question is simple (the answer may not be...), What I am looking for is a way to save a file as an encrypted file (so know one can open it except in visual basic or a way to save it with a unique ending that only visual basic will recognize. I will also need to know of a way to open or load the file to.
This is going to be used in a game I am working on (and yes...I know visual basic isn't really meant for games, but it is coming together pretty well). I was originally going to have it save as a text file, but then everyone could open, read it and even change there stats. That is what this file will contain, the stats for their character, and when they load it, it will place the values into the correct spot.
I am a partial beginner or intermediate coder, I can understand code, I just don't know all there is, like saving and loading, and this is probably a little harder.
I've created a windows form with lots of combo boxes and print and save buttons.
I would like to be able to save the contents of the populated combo boxes, labels etc ie the whole form from the save button, preferably to excel 2003. However, would be just as happy to save it in the form format.
The only code behind the save button I have so far is this, which just navigates me to the directory. When I enter a filename and extension, the directory is empty:

How to encode string and save using vb.net code? sound don't understand, right? let's say i want to save my string(contain unicode) to file like in NOTEPAD when you write unicode and save, you have to choose encoding = Unicode in order to see the same character when you open it later. I have setup my application so that the App.Config file is not only written to c:users<username>appdatalocal but also to c:users<username>appdataoaming. I plan to encrypt the connection string, my question at this point is will it encrypt the connection string in ALL copies of the App.Config file? It looks like at this point that the App.Config file is stored in two places on the hard drive.

I use this to save the data in the listview in a c: est.txt but the problem is that it only save one data and every time I click the save the previous data that I save is deleted and it change the new one that I save. And also when I click the remove in the listview it will also delete the data that save in the c: est.txt and the format should like this

I made a program that encrypts data and puts it on a txt file. There are two parts of information that need to be "linked" to the other. Say its Person 1, then Person 1 gender, they need to be placed together. Each encrypted piece of seperated by a ";". I have it read the file and place the information on a Rich Text Box. How can I read all the encrypted info and stop at ";" then place that into a variable then read the next bit? I did this a while back but I used StreamReader/StreamWrite and can't remember how I did it. Right now it reads through the open file dialog and writes it to the Text Box with this command writetext.LoadFile(sFilePath, RichTextBoxStreamType.PlainText)

Part of my project requires me to capture data, for example, email address, from certain rows/columns of a datagridview(form2.vb) and displays them in a textbox on another windows form(form1.vb) with a click of a button(Add Contact button). The problem is the datagridview on my form must be able to display databases by making a connection to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 but so far, i have not been able to do that. I have seen many codes with regards to my problem but i do not know how to implement it.
