I wanna save the data present on the form to the text file.I am using vb.net for this. how can i write the text present on the form in the same formate (showing on the form) in the .txt file.

next form which we have to use stream reader to load one record at a time. The form has a next button to load the next record. How do I seperate each record (I am sorry for calling it a record if this is inappropriate) when use streamreader and how do I load a record at a time.
I know how to open a file and use streamreader, I just don't know how to read one record at a time and move to the next one.

Im new here and hoping that I post this in the right forum. I am SLOWLY learning VB, and have run into a problem that I cant figure out. I have a standard form that you can enter data into.I want to take that data that is entered, and save it to a text file once I click the submit button at the bottom of the form. I was using 2 forms, the first one has general data capture and the second one is a calendar form. On Form1 I have mulitple windows controls. A Textb ox and beside a Calendar button. When I click on a Calendar Command button, it should open calendar form and once the user selects the date, the date should be placed in the text box on the form1. Identical to this on Form1 I need multiple textboxes that needs date to be captured.I cannot use a global variable for this as I need to validate mulitple text boxes. To explain this, I have a Transaction Date and Date Received. I need to validate whether Transaction date is prior Date Received or not? I dont want to use several global variables b'coz I might need multiple validations as above. Please help me on this.

I have a question because in my I.O.File. I use this to save the data in the listview in a c: est.txt but the problem is that it only save one data and every time I click the save the previous data that I save is deleted and it change the new one that I save. And also when I click the remove in the listview it will also delete the data that save in the c: est.txt and the format should like this

View 14 RepliesIts a League Organizer, basicly ive started it off with 16 teams and end up with 1(winner) 16 box's on the far left, then 8, then 4, then 2, then 1. the 16 box's have "Team 1" "Team 2" etc... ive put a new/clear/open/save button in that order.
BUT this is my problem..when i save(Save Button) the text file saves all the text wrong it ends up like this...Team 1Team 2Team 3Team 4 Etc...
But i want it to save like this

View 4 RepliesI have been using this code, see below, to try and write data from the DataGridView to a text file. It works but it puts an extra comma after each line and thinks that there has been another line so puts an extra 4 commas on a new line. So the text file looks like this:

New to vb.net coming from vba. I am working on a mass balance model which collects a handful of 'user' data (less than 10 records) and then applies various equations to the data and records/reports the resulting values. I think I have a pretty good handle on the basic operators for a single 'user', having pretty extensive vba knowledge. However, I am having difficulty saving the new 'user' data and creating new 'users'. I need to keep the app as simple as possible for deployment to machines with nothing more than 2.0 and I do not really need a database, just a simple method of creating multiple 'users' as objects.

View 2 RepliesI've got a small reminder application I wrote in VB Express 2008. The main app autostarts with Windows and sits in the system tray all the time. Now, I need to save the time (sorta timestamp) it closes/terminates to a file. It works fine when the app is terminated by myself but doesn't when when I shutdown/reboot Windows. The code that saves the timestamp to a file resides in FormClosing event. But for some reason it doesn't fire or the code to save the file doesn't get executed when I shut down/reboot windows.
Is there a way, probably thru' Win API to register my app with Windows, so that windows actually waits for my app to terminate in a sane way after saving the data. I remember of reading about this possibility somewhere, I don't remember now.

I would like it to populate the list box when the form is loaded, but if I have to use a button to tell it to load that is fine also.On the same form I have 4 textboxes that ask for each of the above items (name, DOB, Level, PH#) and a button that when pushed I want it to save it to the same file where the above info was pulled from in the same format.The Show Contacts button doesn't have to be used if it is not needed.
I would like to commit the data put in a checkedlistbox to the user.config. I have found a way to commit them to my.settings but no matter what Save() method I call, it does not commit the new data (that is not bound to a control, through the propertybindings) to the user.config, either immediately or when I shutdown the application. Which means, when I loop through the settings when the application starts back up, the data is not there to be added back to the checkedlistbox. I have put save methods in the formclosing events as well as when the data is created in the my.settings. using my.mysettings, my.settings and my.settings.default. Thank you in advance for your input.
This first method is a called when a button is pushed. it checks the text and then calls the next method (AddProperty) which should add the property to my.settings and save it to user.config, but my understanding is that it is not written to the file till the applicatoin closes.
