.NET: Site+taking Data From MSSQL?

I'm watching tutorials about creating Web Site and about controls.I think I added SQL Database to the project (it's not empty) properly. Suppose it has two columns: FirstName, LastName.I have TextBox1, TextBox2 and Button1 on the web site form.I enter any integer number (5, 10, 15 or whatever) into TextBox1. I want to press Button1 and get a value of 5th person (10th, 15th or whatever) from SQL Database into TextBox2.Who can help me with that? Should I read about ADO.NET and use something from there?Later I want to use VB for work with that strings.

I want to store rich text from vb.net to mssql database. My question is what will be data type in mssql to store rtf information.Also is there any free control availble to show basic buttons to conntrol formatting for rich text box like colors , fonts, etc. as i found standard rtf control in vb.net just show the text box and no way to format the text in rich text box.

The above code was originally written in VS2003 to retrieve and display data from Access 03 database, and runs without error. In VS2010, this code is throwing a "Command Text was not set for the Command Object" error and points to the last line as the source of the error.

I have a problem with transfering data from MSSQL Server 2005 to Access.
I need to make a VBScript that can take out all data from one table in mssql and update one table in Access. The tables exist in both databases and looks the same, but there can be more data in the table from MSSQL Server so i need to update the table in Access with this data.
E.g. I have a table called: SMP_Alert in both database's. So i want to do something like this (dunno if that is possiable):

I have 200,000 rows data need to be inserted into MSSQL 2005 express. I have 4G memory. From the beginning, there is 2.0G used. Then, I use microsoft text driver to load text file into datagridview. Memory rise to about 2.8 GB.I start write data row by row from datagrid view. Memory usage keep rising , then OutOfMemory exception is catched.I try to use GC.Collect and for System.Data.Odbc.OdbcConnection , I also try .Dispose(). But it is no use.How can I keeing the memory within about 3.0GB for this usage ? I monitor .vhost.exe. It rise to more than 1G.

I have 5 forms after the first initial login form which i believe to be correct You are to enter customer details which so far i believe to correct(all fields must be filled) I then have a Service or repair screen whichever the user wants. on the repair screen i have a checkedlistbox with repair types in. anyway after all of this i have a calculate button on either service and repair screen and i want to know how to pass all customer details and repair or service onto an invoice displaying the cost of the service or repair Inlcuding VAT and Hourly rate

In my VB6 programs (internal to our organzation) I have always liked taking screenshots upon the occurence of an error to give me more clues as to its cause but somehow I have read somewhere that it may be in violation to some law (privacy / data protection).In the project I am currently developing and it will be for marketing I have used the same method but upon reading about the warning I am now somehow hesitant to use it although it has proved useful in the past.

I am wondering how I can select and pull specific bits of data from a block of information a user pastes into a textbox. For example, the information has fixed words and is always in the same format, but the numbers relating to the words may be different. One report might say, for example, Cars: 1.176 and another may say Cars: 863. How do I pull the information about the "cars" from a the block of text with the number value even though it can be different each time?
I must note that there are many many of these scattered throughout the average report and I need to pull the values of each of them in a single click, then paste those values into a different area on the form.

I am making a booking system. I am using same form for insertion and updation. How can I update by taking the values from the textboxes. For example if the user enters value for just 2 out of 8 fields then How can i update just 2 fields without affecting the rest of the record. I mean to say that if I use a single update query using all the fields then if some textbox is left empty then it will replace the database field value by null or something else.

I was using ContentType="application/vnd.ms-excel" on my web site to display a datatable in an excel workbook on the client. It worked great. Now that I have upgraded to Office 2007 and vb.net 2010, I get a warning saying that the file is in a different format than specified by the file extension (.xls). I googled new ways of exporting data to excel, but have yet to find a good example. I usedMicrosoft.Office.Interop.Excel which worked great, except I read that you are not supposed to use this on a web server.

Ive got an app that holds a list of site we have, At each site there are a few devices. The idea is when they click on a site all the details for the site are loaded and then a second thread sits and pings each device to see if its live. Im trying to do this in a seperate thread so if they click another site while its still pinging them it doesn't wait before it switches site. This all seems to be workling fine except if you click through the sites quickly, when you do that it will eventually come up with

When i publish my program i choose to let the application check for updates via a website and if their is one update automatically when the program starts. Is their a way were on the main user form i can make it so that the user can change the update site with out me building the program again with the new site. I want to do this becuase the site i use goes down alot so when i changed the update url no one was able to download the update for the new update server.

I'm deploying a VB.Net app (VS 2010 Pro) that requiers the user click a command button to open IE to a financial WEB site and download informaion from the site. The app works fine in every detail when installed on the development computer. But, on the target computer when the command button is clicked an unhandled exception occurs which says: System.IO. FileNotFoundException:File Not found.My code behind the button is Shell("C:Program Files (x86)Internet Exploreriexplore.exe www,fidelity.com",AppWinStyle.NormalFocus)
This works fine on the development computer. Do I need a way to code this as a relative path? If so,can you tell me how this is done?Throughout the app I have written relative paths to needed files using paths like (Open(Environment. GEtFolderPath (Environment. SpecialFoldder.Desktop) + "File Name). They all work fine when deployed.

I'm being asked to maintain several internal-only web apps for my company. For testing, after making my changes, I've created some staging sites which make use of separate databases. As such, if my users were to mistakenly use this site as if it were the production site, they may enter important data and wonder where it "disappeared" to thinking it was the production server.
I'd like to create a big banner of some sort across the top of the staging site (which ONLY appears on the staging site) to remind my users that they are on the test site. I'd like recommendations on the best way to do this, with the following considerations:
IDE: Visual Studio 2008
Server: Windows 2003 with IIS 6

It used to work up until I added more code for it to query another database. That ended up messing up my page and since I have deleted that code, I must've forgotten something, or maybe my code was messy to begin with....but now my welcome message is always the wrong person's name. I want to build a VB program that will go to a web site and pull out a specific piece of data.I am using VB Express 2010 not sure if it belongs in this .net forum.I am successfully getting to the website using WebBrowser.navigate()The data is provided to me in XML format and I am told that it is ready to be retrieved. They tell me to use XML Parser.When I go to their web site I see the data I need to pull out there is a column with tags in front of each piece, the piece I need is between <Vr0> and </Vr0>.I have no resources other than the net currently I do have a dummies book ordered but will be at least next week (at the earliest) before my first book arrives.Can you explain how I can sort through the data and pull out the data in XML format on a web site?

I am looking for some advice on how to proceed with a little project I am doing envolving sending data to an external site. So the rough situation is I have data stored in variables in a VB program (and corrisponding excel sheet working as a storage place for variables after the project closes) and I need to some how get this data to a portal site and have it entered automatically :P. I current have a button on my VB program that opens to the specific site and the users navigate to the data entry portion of the site and enter the data manually but my eventual goal is to hopefully have this all automated through a single button on the form.

I have a login form that consists of 2 text boxes: txtUser, txtPass. Now these are not bound to any data table & I don't what them to be bound. When a new user enters his user name & password, I want to add these on a data table that has two columns: User, Pass.
