.net 2.0 - .net Winforms Design / Layout?

Dec 2, 2010

I am working on a windows forms project that will allow a user to have an interface to the database, and another will be a nightly run process file that will update the database table. The user will add new records to the table, whereas the nightly process will update the columns with new values (think mortgage interest rates)

Both these projects will be using the same business logic component that has the calculations needed to enter values into the table. The way I am figuring this out, is that I will have two exe's (one for the interface and one for the nightly process) and have a central object that will host the calculations. What would be the best object for this purpose?A class file?A windows service? (I want to stay away from a windows service, because it will have to be running all the time)

VS 2010 Design Layout Utility?

Sep 22, 2010

This is kind of an off-the-wall question but does anyone know if VS 2010 has somekind of utility that will allow you to just drag & drop controls onto a form or something that will help in visual design. I'm just talking for visual purposes only. No code-behind files or anything...almost like a canvas where you can place controls and labels, etc.

Report Screen Layout Design

Apr 27, 2011

i am in the process designing the screen of a report form.I would like to have the Report selection (button, search criteria) on the left hand side and crystal report on the right hand side of the form.My idea is such that:Report Selection take up 30% of the screen and Crystal Report take up 70% of the screen.User are able to view the crystal report immediately after they have filled in all the search criteria and press the OK button. My purpose of doing this is to avoid to have another pop up for crystal report. Is it possible to do so in VB.NET?

Forms :: Implement A Classic Layout Design In .net (2.0)?

Nov 14, 2010

how to implement a classic layout design in vb.net (2.0).The application design is the classical toolbar panel at the top and different panels stacked at the bottom. Depending on the button pressed at the top in the toolbar panel a different panel at the bottom will be available. This is thought to have different part of the software available on different panel but with the toolbar panel always available at the top.To implement this I thought:

1) one tablelayout with 2 rows. First row contain a panel with the button (toolbar panel) and adding/removing hte correct panel requested on the bottom row.

Database - Warehouse Inventory Design - Display The Contents In A "grid" Style Layout On A Form

Mar 17, 2012

I have been staring at a blank screen for over an hour trying to figure out the best way to build this app. We have a warehouse with consumables. These consumables are stored on racks that are three rows high and 15 columns long. I need to display the contents of these racks with the following; Item nameUnit quantityUnit expiration date

Now while this in itself would be a simple thing, I need to . Take a look at this image, the lower portion of the image shows basically what I want to display as far as the form goes. Instead of the "Row 1-1-1" text, I want to show the item, qty and exp. There are multiple rows. It should also be noted that each location may have more than one item stored in it, and there might not be anything stored in it. So I guess my question is, from a design point, is it better to create a small table for each location and then join those tables to a main "Row" table since there will only be a single row displayed on the form at a time? How would it be possible to keep the data properly ordered from a coding perspective? How can I ensure that each storage location remains static unless the item is moved?

C# - Design Time Exception Not Caught In WinForms

Oct 4, 2010

I have a form that is used at design-time to configure various properties. I've tried two ways to do a form-level catch all exception:
(1) I add a handler to Application.ThreadException in the constructor.
(2) I wrap the Show method, of the form, in a Try/Catch block

Both of these work at run-time when I test by adding a property grid to a form and set my component as the SelectedObject. However, at design-time the form simply closes with no message whatsoever; neither my message nor any message explaining that there is an unhandled exception. This is not about debugging at design-time. It's about how to present the user with a friendly message when my type editor encounters an unhandled exception.

C# - Refresh Property Grid, At Design-time, When A Readonly Collection Changes In .Net, Winforms?

Mar 3, 2010

I have a class that has a readonly collection property - Its a list of extender providers that have been applied to the control.I've implemented a simple property descriptor for the collection so that the property can be expanded in the property grid to examine each entry.

When I select an extender provider and set it to false, I remove it from the collection. The GetProperties method of the type converter is requeried and the property grid refreshes. However, when I set an extender provider to true, and thus add it to the collection, GetProperties is not requeried.

Somehow, the property grid is making a distinction between adding to and removing from the collection. Or alternativly, its refreshing when an extender provider is added, but not when one is removed.

Persisting A Collection, That References An Internal Property, At Design Time In Winforms, .net?

Mar 11, 2010

(I've answered the question below with a hack. I'm fairly confident in it unless MS change the way that codedom serializers the designer code.)ETA2:I've worked out what is going on. I wondered why sometimes it would work and not others. It boils down to the name that I give to the internal property and the collection. If I rename the property 'Annoyance' to 'WTF', it will serialize correctly because 'WTF' is, alphabetically, after the name of the collection - 'InternalAnger'.It looks like the serializer is creating instances of objects alphabetically and needs my internal property to be created by the time it comes to create the collection.I can fix this with a rename, but that's a hack and I fear that writing a custom serializer is a big job - which I've never done before.ETA: Jesus, I'm sick of this. This problem was specifically about persisting an interface collection but now on further testing it doesn't work for a normal collection. Here's some even simpler code:

Public Class Anger
End Class
Public Class MyButton

IDE :: Set Project Default For Winforms Projects S/ Default Modifier For Controls Added To Winforms Is Private

May 28, 2010

Is it possible to set a project default for VB.NET winforms projects so that the default Modifier for controls added to winforms is Private (not Friend)?I know there's a "modifiers" property in the properties window so I can set it for each individual control however I would like to change the project so from now on myself and other developers have to specifically decide to change from friend to private. (Which I would strongly discourage them from doing).I believe there is no way of doing this, but on another forum a while ago someone mentioned it would be possible with an add-in (but didn't name the add-in or where to get it).

Way To Transfer Layout

Jun 5, 2009

Since my last form is apparently screwed up, I threw together a rough copy that actually works, and I'd like to substitute this is for the old one. I made this new working form in the same project so I don't have to add it, but since the current form is a tab I have no idea how to get the new layout in there.I also don't know how to explain what I'm trying to do, so hopefully this is reasonably clear.

Current form:

I only need that History form. I don't know how to get my new working one in its place, and keep rest of the code from the old form, while retaining the BindingNavigator from the new one. My problem with the old form is that it wouldn't save new rows when I clicked a button on the Navigator (even with the right code), the new one works fine so that's why I want to replace it.

Description_de-DE
Description_nl-BE

Is this the best solution ?

Duplication Of Tabpage Layout?

Jul 21, 2010

I've gone through various thread, posts, classes and walkthroughs on sites but seem to be coming up short either in my understanding or what is/should be going on.I have a very simple data entry tabcontrol (think like microsoft excel but textboxes, labels and the odd combobox rather than a grid). When I click one tab it creates a new tab and names it according the sequence (no problems so far). Here is the crotch kicker (for me at least). I need the first tabpage layout on all additional tabpage so that data can be entered in each separately and stored with constant "processing" (adding and subtracting ).What would be the best approach to doing such a tabpage duplication?

Currently a User control library inheriting from tabpage seems like a good idea but with the 40 or so controls on it is this actually going to function like the first tabpage (as in the one i have now not the one I'd have if i used the user control instead).Do I take the raft of code the designer creates automatically for the tabpage and its controls and simply add them to the click event? Would this create duplication problems with name or would it be ok as they would be tabpage1.lblName and tabpage2.lblName?

Saving Layout Of Application?

May 10, 2010

I have made an application and I have many listviews, dockable menu bars etc and I want the user to be able to save the layout of the design of the application once they make changes to it.

For example on my listview I have 3 column, "column 1", "column 2" and "column 3" and they might want to place "column 3" between 1 and 2 as they might prefer this view instead.

How can I code it so that "column 3" wont go back to the default location when they load up the application again after they exit it?

Sharepoint Form Layout In VB?

Mar 8, 2009

OKay, I'm from a PHP background, but I've just been tasked with developing some custom Web Parts in SharePoint. I've figured out how to create and deploy a basic "Hello world" web part in VB. Okay so far.

how do I lay out things in a VB web part?

For an example, here's a label and a textbox:

protected overrides sub createchildcontrols()
mybase.createchildcontrols
dim mylabel as new label

[Code].....

How would I, for example, get mylabel and my textbox to appear on different lines, rather than running one after the other as they do now? In PHP I'd just wrap them in some top break them onto differnt lines, but how do I do it here?
