Winforms - Advanced GUI Design - Form Display As A Rounded Rectangle
Mar 30, 2011Is it possible to design my form like 3D? Or having my form displayed as a rounded rectangle?

View 3 RepliesWorking on some UI stuff, but I am having a problem drawing 'Top rounded' rectangles when the two top corners are rounded. I have methods to draw all four corners rounded and bottom rounded rectangles and they render fine.
I have attempted the graphics methods in CreateTopRoundedRect() in a variety of different orders, drawing the other corner first, the bottom line first, the bottom line before the left line, etc. In this function you can see a diagonal line splitting the shape. If you were to switch the bottom and left lines only half of the shape would be filled.

Every sample code I've ever found for drawing rounded rectangles using GDI+ goes something like this (lifted and slightly modified from BobPowell.net):
Private Sub Panel1_Paint(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As PaintEventArgs) Handles Panel1.Paint
e.Graphics.Clear(SystemColors.Window)
e.Graphics.SmoothingMode = SmoothingMode.None
[code]....
This produces a rounded rectangle where only the top left corner is accurate.AntiAliasing has to be turned off because it is going through a remote desktop connection, and I can't depend on it being available. Besides, I am looking for a crisp rounded rectangle.I've tried resizing the other corners and changing the pen alignments, but nothing seems to produce a simple, accurate rounded rectangle. Is there a way to draw a better rounded rectangle than this in good old winforms?
I know how to create the Rounded Rectangle, but what i don't know how to do, is make the area outside of the rounded rectangle (the corners) become transparent This is going to be used on a usercontrol, so i really need it to be transparent and not just blend in (ie adapt to the colour of the parent form).
View 9 Repliesi'm trying to create a flat tabcontrol with a rounded rectangle tab for the selected tab + no border for inactive tabs?basically i'm trying to recreate that ribbon control in a very simplified form as a usercontrol.
View 5 RepliesIs there a shortcut to get to the designview form in a winforms project in visual studio 2010.F7 will take you to code behind class form and shift + F7 will take you to design mode. Is there a shortcut to filename.designer.cs formWhere you have the control definitions, delegates (for click event etc). defined. I go to the form often if I change the name of click event etc.I have to go through solution explorer and click on the file. Is there a shortcut like F7 that opens the designer.cs file?
View 1 RepliesI created a rectangle shape and tried to show it at my form like this
Imports Microsoft.VisualBasic.PowerPacks
Public Class frmBoard
Dim baseDice As RectangleShape
Private Sub frmBoard_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
baseDice.CornerRadius = 5

I am working on a windows forms project that will allow a user to have an interface to the database, and another will be a nightly run process file that will update the database table. The user will add new records to the table, whereas the nightly process will update the columns with new values (think mortgage interest rates)
Both these projects will be using the same business logic component that has the calculations needed to enter values into the table. The way I am figuring this out, is that I will have two exe's (one for the interface and one for the nightly process) and have a central object that will host the calculations. What would be the best object for this purpose?A class file?A windows service? (I want to stay away from a windows service, because it will have to be running all the time)
I'm coming from ASP.NET background and lately I started developing winforms applications for my company, I had no problem with the move from ASP to winforms programing wise, the only thing i have problem with is to my program to look good across different screen resolutions, resolutions is big problem when developing for the web as well, but I already learned and know how to handle those problems and make my website to look good under almost any resolution what I'm really asking, can someone experienced in this area tell me what are the rules and guidelines i should follow and obey for my winforms application will look good in most resolutions.
View 2 RepliesI have a form that is used at design-time to configure various properties. I've tried two ways to do a form-level catch all exception:
(1) I add a handler to Application.ThreadException in the constructor.
(2) I wrap the Show method, of the form, in a Try/Catch block
Both of these work at run-time when I test by adding a property grid to a form and set my component as the SelectedObject. However, at design-time the form simply closes with no message whatsoever; neither my message nor any message explaining that there is an unhandled exception. This is not about debugging at design-time. It's about how to present the user with a friendly message when my type editor encounters an unhandled exception.
I've created a custom clipboard because it's not possible to make my whole class map serializable - which is a requirement for the windows clipboard. However, I need to distinguish between users who are using my clipboard through a unique id. Basically, I want to be able identify a person who is sat at one PC with one or more copies of visual studio (or similar) open.
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to do a Report Designer for end user. Like the one that adds vb.net when u add to proyect a .rpt file. But i wanted to do it on the run, so the end user can change the desing of the report as they want.
View 2 RepliesI would like to create a no border form (i know how to do this), and make the corners rounded off, kind of like you see in iTunes, the form has rounded edges. Can someone help me with this? If you need further information please feel free to ask me! I have a tendency to leave out important info, but i think i included it all this time
View 1 RepliesI have been staring at a blank screen for over an hour trying to figure out the best way to build this app. We have a warehouse with consumables. These consumables are stored on racks that are three rows high and 15 columns long. I need to display the contents of these racks with the following; Item nameUnit quantityUnit expiration date
Now while this in itself would be a simple thing, I need to . Take a look at this image, the lower portion of the image shows basically what I want to display as far as the form goes. Instead of the "Row 1-1-1" text, I want to show the item, qty and exp. There are multiple rows. It should also be noted that each location may have more than one item stored in it, and there might not be anything stored in it. So I guess my question is, from a design point, is it better to create a small table for each location and then join those tables to a main "Row" table since there will only be a single row displayed on the form at a time? How would it be possible to keep the data properly ordered from a coding perspective? How can I ensure that each storage location remains static unless the item is moved?
I seem to have reached a limit on the size of the form. I cannot make the form longer and I need to add more fields. Is there a limit on how many fields can be included in a form?
View 1 RepliesI have a class that has a readonly collection property - Its a list of extender providers that have been applied to the control.I've implemented a simple property descriptor for the collection so that the property can be expanded in the property grid to examine each entry.
When I select an extender provider and set it to false, I remove it from the collection. The GetProperties method of the type converter is requeried and the property grid refreshes. However, when I set an extender provider to true, and thus add it to the collection, GetProperties is not requeried.
Somehow, the property grid is making a distinction between adding to and removing from the collection. Or alternativly, its refreshing when an extender provider is added, but not when one is removed.

(I've answered the question below with a hack. I'm fairly confident in it unless MS change the way that codedom serializers the designer code.)ETA2:I've worked out what is going on. I wondered why sometimes it would work and not others. It boils down to the name that I give to the internal property and the collection. If I rename the property 'Annoyance' to 'WTF', it will serialize correctly because 'WTF' is, alphabetically, after the name of the collection - 'InternalAnger'.It looks like the serializer is creating instances of objects alphabetically and needs my internal property to be created by the time it comes to create the collection.I can fix this with a rename, but that's a hack and I fear that writing a custom serializer is a big job - which I've never done before.ETA: Jesus, I'm sick of this. This problem was specifically about persisting an interface collection but now on further testing it doesn't work for a normal collection. Here's some even simpler code:
Public Class Anger
End Class
Public Class MyButton
[code].....

my problem is that when i load the form the rectangle only shows on the last add data
I've wanted to know the answer to this question for a long time but I never really took the time to ask anyone. My question is, why do rounded edges or drop shadows of transparent form layouts turn white. Take a look at the following image to know what I'm talking about.
View 3 Repliesi am trying to build a Visual Basic program with an Access 2007 database in the back. I have another Access 2007 database with two tables stored in there. Each table has two columns, a UserID and Password column. This database will be used with a LoginForm so that if the user enters a normal login and password they will be taken to a specific form whereas if they enter an AdminID and password they will be taken to another form with different features. I managed to connect to the database and it works fine but i tried making the passwords and user names case sensitive for better security. I don't have a problem with this when i try only one of the tables, but when i try to implement the second table (to check if the login is an admin or a normal user)

It works perfectly fine. Does anyone know what the problem is?
When I open a project created on a PC of XP SP3 and 24" widescreen in another PC of XP SP3 and 22" widescreen, the design of forms including the form size and layout of the components (sizes & locations) changed.
View 5 RepliesGiven a rectangle of width w and height h. and a coordinate x,y in that rectangle I would like to identify which triangle I am within.
i.e. the function should take parameters(x,y) and return a,b,c,d or a zero based number representing that triangle index i.e. (0=A,1=B,2=C,3=D) if they are in that order.
I think this would be something like >= the formula of the red line and >= the formula of the green line?
I'd like to implement this in VB.NET
