.net 2.0 Windows Service Not Running On Server 2008?

I have a windows service written in .net framework 2.0. This service installs and runs perfectly fine on both XP and windows server 2003.We have a new 2008 box that we are migrating over to, so need to get this windows service up and running.When i try to 'start' the windows service on the 2008 machine, i get "Windows could not start the <service> service on local computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."I have searched everywhere looking for an answer, and all I could find was a fix attributed to .net framework 1.1 for this same error. That; however, is not applicable here, as the service was written in 2.0.
I wanted to know what are the risks of opening up a socket server on a specified port? Right now I have it limited to only accept requests from 1 specific IP to that port and all the other ones get rejected (using the windows firewall), is there a way to implement an authentication or anything else so I can allow it to be accessed from any IP worldwide yet have it secured?
I am writing a service to get a count from a table on an SQL server. THe SQL box is in the same domain, and the service is runnign under the same account as the SQL box.
The box service is running on is Win 2008 in the domain. The interesting thing is that when I use this same code and run a normal EXE on that server, it runs no issues. In a service it crashe with:[code...]
We have a windows service running under a network account that calls and runs an ActiveX exe. The exe is running under the local system account, not the network account of the service.
I have a console application that is ready to be used as a windows service, I have been looking around for a couple of hours and tried many of the tutorials out there but none of them worked with me.

I've been researching for days and I've gotten to the point where my WCF service creates an Access object via com/interop.I've ran the Open Current Database call for the Access object without an error but Application.CurrentDB is still nothing/null. If the CurrentDB is nothing then I surely can't call Application.Run "myFunction" I realize WCF services aren't meant to be user interactive, but it's a long story why I'm trying to go this route. When I run this on an English Windows xp machine, it works fine, but when testing on a machine with a Portuguese version of Windows 7, a couple of the RTD server's dialog boxes will not open in the add-in section of Excel. Does anyone have an idea why this would happen in Windows 7 Portuguese?

I've developed a VB.NET application with Visual Studio 2008. The application communicates with SQL Server and processes a text file.
My question is about performance. While I run it from Visual Studio 2008, it takes 3 sec to complete. The same is when I run the executable created by the Setup Wizard on my desktop (Windows XP sp 3). But if I run the executable installed on a Windows 2003 Server, it takes 15 sec to complete! What could be the reason of degrading performance on the server vs. the desktop? The .Net framework 3.5 SP1 is installed both on the desktop and the server.

i have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:

It does not work. I have tried to call it through a class library but this does not work either as the end point is not set correctly.
I have a simple Windows Service that reads from an Excel spreadsheet and imports the records into a SQL Server 2000 database table. Before it loads it checks if the file has been successfully imported before (using filename) and whether any of the records in the file have been imported before (using primary key). If these checks are ok I load the records into a datatable and then update the datatable to the database.
However, I need to do this in a transaction as I want to ignore the whole file if there is an error. The file goes to a discarded folder and the user gets an email with why the import failed. (This is likely to be because the store the record is for is not yet added to the database and the referential intergrity of the db fails). If there is no transaction the records before the failure record are imported. When the file is imported again (the store has been added to store table) the file is then rejected because duplicate records are already in the db.

I have a windows service I created that checks for data to post to an off site webservice over SSL. The service checks every 10 seconds for data to send, if there is data it opens a connection to the remote webservice, and closes the connection after 120 seconds (still checking for data to send during this time). I created new windows service with timer inside it for scheduler purpose and it can run successfully but it can't run other application (ex: notepad) when the timer elapsed. I can see the process running in Task Manager but the notepad windows is not open. I used this code in timer_elapsed event.

In Visual Studio when I try to start a windows service project it tells me I cant because I have to use "NET Start" and so forth. I remember in VS 2003 that when I pressed play it started the service and stop stopped it. Is there any way that when I press play or start for that windows service project I can have this same functionality. What I currently do is install them using installutil and I put a pre-processor command with System.Diagnostics.Debug.Launch() when I have a compilation variable defined and when I use the service manager it shows me the window to select the debugger. Still this method is somewhat cumbersome.
I have a service that receives commands over the network and interacts with the database. At the time that I add a transaction I would like to print some sort of receipt ticket out to an epson tmt88iv. I can get the service to run through my code once, but I can�t get it to loop, well I can but then the service will not start correctly and just times out while the code is running.
How can I get the service to start and then loop, at the moment it just says starting service and the code is looping but the service wont start! Windows times it out after a few mins.

I tired to use InstallUtil C:Myservice.exe and it is working but all client don't have VB.NET to find installUtil.
