Running A Console Application As A Windows Service?

Jun 29, 2010

I have a console application that is ready to be used as a windows service, I have been looking around for a couple of hours and tried many of the tutorials out there but none of them worked with me.

The closest one was: [URL] but it didn't go into the process of doing it. I converted that code to VB.NET but then I don't know where to go from there. I have the Module1.vb which runs my console application all ready to be used.

show me a way to use my console application as a service, I tried using the InstallUtil feature but my app never showed under "services".

.net - WCF Service Hosted In A Managed Windows Service Connect Using A WCF Service Application

Jul 14, 2011

i have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:

Warning: Type library exporter encountered a type that derives from a
generic class and is not marked as
[ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)]. Class interfaces cannot be
exposed for such types. Consider marking the type with
[ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)] and exposing an explicit
interface as the default interface to COM using the
ComDefaultInterface attribute.

It does not work. I have tried to call it through a class library but this does not work either as the end point is not set correctly.

.Net Windows Service Console Messages?

Sep 22, 2011

I have a .Net Console application which displays thousands of lines on the console each minute. I want to convert it to a Windows Service, however I still need a way of viewing these messages. There are far too many messages to write them to the event log or even a standard log file. I was wondering if there were a way to write a systray app that could simply intercept these messages from the service and display them in a console window. I have no need to save older messages, I only need to see current activity.

Running Commands In Console Application

Feb 26, 2010

I have a console application and I have figured out how to type in the command window with Console.WriteLine() but i need to run a command (ex. net user) then wait for a response and type another command, for some reason I cant figure out how to type the command and automatically press enter without closing the window. I tried Console.WriteLine("net user") but all it does is write "net user" in the command window so I used My.Computer.Keyboard.SendKeys("{ENTER}", True) after Console.Writeline and it just wrote "net user" then exited the window. Is there any way to run a command through a console application? if so how would i do this?

VS 2008 - How To Make Console Application Continue Running

I was thinking I could make a console application that would have a FileSystemWatcher - watching for a .BAT file being created in a folder - and when it sees that file it does a PROCESS.START on it. But I'm seeing that a console app doesn't continue running.

Imports System.IO
Module awcWatcher
Sub Main()
Dim fsw As New FileSystemWatcher("D:ACS DesktopAWCeportingstaging")
fsw.NotifyFilter = NotifyFilters.FileName Or NotifyFilters.LastWrite
[Code] .....
How would I go about making this wait and then wait again and again and again?

.net 2.0 Windows Service Not Running On Server 2008?

Dec 4, 2009

I have a windows service written in .net framework 2.0. This service installs and runs perfectly fine on both XP and windows server 2003.We have a new 2008 box that we are migrating over to, so need to get this windows service up and running. When i try to 'start' the windows service on the 2008 machine, i get "Windows could not start the <service> service on local computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."I have searched everywhere looking for an answer, and all I could find was a fix attributed to .net framework 1.1 for this same error. That; however, is not applicable here, as the service was written in 2.0.

Windows Application Versus Console Application?

Nov 24, 2010

We currently have +- 20 different console application developed in VS2008 and running at different scheduled intervals, all controlled by Windows schedular. The problem we have come accross is that it is becoming increasingly difficult to manage and maintain these console apps. In some instances a console app will just fail or never run to start with and this creates a lot of problems. In many cases one console app is dependant on another and if 1st one fails well...you see where this is going.

I am looking for a new solution that will help us to trace, debug and manage these console apps better. We are preferably looking for a gui front end, maybe windows app where we can set the intervals for them to sun and view some error reports if they did not run.We are port all the code for the console apps to which ever new appliocation we develop.

Created A Windows Console Application?

Nov 16, 2009

I created a windows console application because it needs to do some things at windows start up. However, in very rare cases I need to ask the user for some information, so I need to show a form. I created a form and went to my application properties. There I selected Windows Forms application as the application type. I call my form with the .Show method but it doesn't show up.

I expected this, but I have no idea how to solve it.

[EDIT]Just found out .Show does show it but only for 0.00001 seconds. I use showdialog now. Is this the right way to do it?
