We have a windows service running under a network account that calls and runs an ActiveX exe. The exe is running under the local system account, not the network account of the service.
View 1 RepliesI have a windows service written in .net framework 2.0. This service installs and runs perfectly fine on both XP and windows server 2003.We have a new 2008 box that we are migrating over to, so need to get this windows service up and running. When i try to 'start' the windows service on the 2008 machine, i get "Windows could not start the <service> service on local computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."I have searched everywhere looking for an answer, and all I could find was a fix attributed to .net framework 1.1 for this same error. That; however, is not applicable here, as the service was written in 2.0.
View 3 RepliesI have a console application that is ready to be used as a windows service, I have been looking around for a couple of hours and tried many of the tutorials out there but none of them worked with me.
The closest one was: [URL] but it didn't go into the process of doing it. I converted that code to VB.NET but then I don't know where to go from there. I have the Module1.vb which runs my console application all ready to be used.
show me a way to use my console application as a service, I tried using the InstallUtil feature but my app never showed under "services".
'the below just creates a text file for my own sanity. Both files get 'created so I know the service is running as it should and not crashing. 'timer ticks every minute so if I delete the files once they have been 'created, they get recreated

I have a file called john.vbs. It only contains the following vbscript
'DIM objShell
'set objShell = wscript.createObject("wscript.shell")
'objShell.Run("CMD /C dir /s > dirlist.txt")
If I run this through command prompt, it does as I'd expect.'Nothing happens when the below code gets run.

Bottom Line : How to schedule Windows Service to run at specific time ?
I have written onw windows service..in that i have logic that is some part of code need to execute on certain time.. my service is running in every one min..

I wanted to know what are the risks of opening up a socket server on a specified port? Right now I have it limited to only accept requests from 1 specific IP to that port and all the other ones get rejected (using the windows firewall), is there a way to implement an authentication or anything else so I can allow it to be accessed from any IP worldwide yet have it secured?

I have some shared code I need to use both in a WinForm and a service. How can I test if my code is running in a service, so I can avoid problems with modal dialogs.
View 2 RepliesI have a Check Box that the use checks to indicate that a specific situation is present. When the User checks the box he gets a Message Box reminding him that the condition must be fulfilled. This works fine and the database reflectthe fact that the Check Box is filled.
At a later date, if the user calls this record and fills the form, the Check Box is triggered and the message Box appears in the middle of the form fill operation.
Is there a way to prevent this from happening. I want the Check Box checked but don't want the message box if the change is triggered by the fill process.
i was trying to make my service act dynamically... i have set time for my service about for 2 min ,if suppose it was doin huge amount of work means it will exceeds that 2 min time limit then we need to check the service condition if work is pending means we need to run that instance until upto finish.
public static void StartService(string serviceName, int timeoutMilliseconds)

i have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:
Warning: Type library exporter encountered a type that derives from a
generic class and is not marked as
[ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)]. Class interfaces cannot be
exposed for such types. Consider marking the type with
[ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)] and exposing an explicit
interface as the default interface to COM using the
ComDefaultInterface attribute.
It does not work. I have tried to call it through a class library but this does not work either as the end point is not set correctly.
I have a class that needs to check for errors in the data contained in a object. The routines that will check for errors could be implemented in concrete interfaces of supertype IErrorCheck. That way error checks can be discrete and added or removed from the class that requests the error checks. Each IErrorCheck implementation would be programmed against the supertype IErrorCheck (Strategy). But it would be nice not to recompile when checks are added or removed. Is there an accepted procedure for abstracting the error checks all the way out of the program, such as to read the checks from a file?
View 2 RepliesI would like to take blank secure stock paper and convert it in to a check.
I know you can get magnetic toner and print MICR.
The question is What is the actual font to use or should i get a package and send the data to it to print the check?
Has anybody done it successfully without having to resort to pre-printed checks.
I have been working for some time on a service that will act as a task scheduler and perform a shutdown action at one of 3 given shutdown times. Before you cringe and ask why not use the task scheduler, I should explain that permissions do not allow users to "create" scheduled tasks and therefore a creative work-around is required. In any case, I am still new to VB, but am including my code below. I want the service to check an alarm time every minute and launch a shutdown application (in the user's context - if logged in) if that time is NOW.

I'm trying to understand how I would retrieve information about a running process on my machine from a VB.Net routine. For instance, Assume I open Task Manager and see a process called "Bob.exe".From Task manager I can see the PID for Bob.exe, the memory it uses, the I/O information, etc.I want to be able to query the machine for this information for Bob.exe from a method within VB.Net.

I have an app that relies on a database. Basically, users are checking in and checking out items and the database keeps track of all that.My boss wants a notification system to email us when a item is overdue. I already have most of this figured out.I was able to create a service and have it read registry values that the app sets and then it reads the check outdate from the database. If it's overdue, an email is sent out.
But, I've only done testing for 10 seconds at a time. I'm currently using a System.Threading.Timer to run every 10 seconds. That was only a test, it won't actually be that way.Instead, I want the task to run once every day. I was thinking to just have it run every hour, but if it runs every hour, then we'll be constantly bombarded by emails when an item is overdue. And sending it every "x" hours brings it's own issues and isn't ideal.Normally, I'd run a task via the Windows Task Scheduler, but the app has to read the database. I guess I could create a separate app and launch it via the task scheduler, have it complete the tasks and then close when done.
Back when i used vb i used an unload form command which allowed me to completely close it. but now i cant use it in 2008 [code]...
View 3 RepliesIf I create a scheduled task for my vb.net program, and run it under another user, and it runs when logged off, as long as the user has full rights, will the winforms application be able to call web services over the web?
View 8 Replieswhat language would be useful to make a program that looks in a directory and saves the amount of files inside of it as a variable then have it check if the variable does not equal what it was originally when it counted then run a script. since i have a folder that adds a new file to the directory every time something is changed i want a script to run that just runs an exe.
View 1 RepliesI am developing a solution in .Net utilising the VMWare Web Service API to create new isolated virtualised development environments. The front end will be web based. Requestors input details for the specific environment which will be persisted to SQL. So I need to write an engine of some sort to pull the data from SQL and work on the long running task of creating resource pools, switch port groups and cloning existing VM templates etc. As work progresses, events will be raised to write logs and update info back to SQL. This allows requestors to pull data back into a webpage to see how it's progressing or if it's completed.
The thing I am struggling with is how to engineer the engine which will exec the long running task of creating the environment. I cannot write a windows service (which I would like) as we work in a very secure environment and it's not possible (group policy etc). I could write a web service to execute the tasks, extending the httpRuntime executionTimeout to allow the task to complete. But I'm keen to hear what you guys think may be a better solution to use (based on .Net 3.5). The solution needs to be service oriented as we may be using it on other projects within our org. What about WWF, WCF? I have not used any of the newer technologies available since .Net 2.0 as we've only just been approved to move up from .Net 2.0.
I'm using a BackgroundWorker to perform some analysis on a separate thread. The BackgroundWorker is called when a user clicks a CheckBox.
I need to provide for the user clicking the CheckBox, starting the BackgroundWorker task, and then changing their mind and clicking the CheckBox again.I simply want to cancel the currently running task and set the analysis off again. Currently I have the following method:
Public Sub UpdateParkStatusAsync()
Try
'Debug output.
Console.WriteLine("UC_Map_ViewModel.UpdateParkStatus called.")

I am currently attempting to support a ClickOnce application that i did not write. This application is running from a scheduled task. The scheduled task points to a .application file. This had been running happily untill today when it stopped. The only thing that has changed is that the application has been executed manually by a developer by double clicking on the .application file. Since then each time the scheduled task is scheduled to run the application doesn't appear to execute. The task reports no error and the error code (0x0) given indicates it ran and completed ok.
I am not familiar with ClickOnce and am not sure when implication clicking the .application file would have had or why it has stopped running as a scheduled task. It appears to me that everything else has remained the same (i have checked it is running under the correct account etc).
How would I Make a program that would detect running process in the taskmanger:
Info on my program
+Like I want it to load the process name's in a Rich textbox or label or textbox (if that's possible XD).
+ And I will Have a Button that once I see all the process and then the button1 will kill the processes I Pick.
How would i know when a thread is completed running it's task? I mean in background worker it has a completed event, but can i make something similar to that?
