I am struggling to send parameters to a VB.NET WS(web service) that is hosted on Windows Azure. Getting a simple hello world (no parameters) works fine, but for some reason my parameters on the web service side are null? Web service function to be called (IService1.vb):

Function GetAddition(ByVal number1 As Integer, ByVal number2 As Integer) As String
Function implementation (Service1.svc.vb):Function GetAddition(ByVal number1 As Integer, ByVal number2 As Integer) As String Implements IService1.GetAddition Return number1 + number2 End Function

i have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:
Warning: Type library exporter encountered a type that derives from a
generic class and is not marked as
[ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)]. Class interfaces cannot be
exposed for such types. Consider marking the type with
[ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)] and exposing an explicit
interface as the default interface to COM using the
ComDefaultInterface attribute.
It does not work. I have tried to call it through a class library but this does not work either as the end point is not set correctly.

I have a VB.NET WCF service hosted as a Window Service. I was able to create an install package, install the service to my machine, and start the service manually from Services in Administrative Tools.Now when I try to reference the service in my test console application (Address: http://localhost:8080/), I get the following error:There was an error downloading 'http://localhost:8080'.` Unable to connect to the remote server No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:8080`

I have a WCF Service (with installer) that I have built and installed in Windows Services. Opened up Admin Tools, Services, and started the service without a problem. So now I'm beginning a new project (a simple Windows forms app). I want to consume my new WCF, but have no idea how. I can't seem to add a reference / add a service reference to it.

I have a windows service written in .net framework 2.0. This service installs and runs perfectly fine on both XP and windows server 2003.We have a new 2008 box that we are migrating over to, so need to get this windows service up and running.When i try to 'start' the windows service on the 2008 machine, i get "Windows could not start the <service> service on local computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."I have searched everywhere looking for an answer, and all I could find was a fix attributed to .net framework 1.1 for this same error. That; however, is not applicable here, as the service was written in 2.0.

I have a console application that is ready to be used as a windows service, I have been looking around for a couple of hours and tried many of the tutorials out there but none of them worked with me.
The closest one was: [URL] but it didn't go into the process of doing it. I converted that code to VB.NET but then I don't know where to go from there. I have the Module1.vb which runs my console application all ready to be used.
show me a way to use my console application as a service, I tried using the InstallUtil feature but my app never showed under "services".

I have myself a self-hosted WCF server setup, which serves a clientaccesspolicy.xml and an index.htm which is just points to my xap (accessible via app.xap).
I'm currently serving them via the following code:
Public Function GetPolicy() As System.IO.Stream Implements IClientAccessPolicy.GetPolicy
WebOperationContext.Current.OutgoingResponse.ContentType = "application/xml"
Return New IO.MemoryStream(IO.File.ReadAllBytes("Server Files/ClientAccessPolicy.xml"))
End Function
Public Function GetIndex() As IO.Stream Implements ISilverlightServer.GetIndex
[Code] .....
It works, does the job I'm after. However, I don't think this streams the xap properly, and I know it's a streaming type. If this isn't streaming it properly, how should I stream it? (The endpoint that the XAP and index.htm files are coming through has a webHttpBinding binding). Is it being streamed properly? Or should I make some changes?

I wanted to know what are the risks of opening up a socket server on a specified port? Right now I have it limited to only accept requests from 1 specific IP to that port and all the other ones get rejected (using the windows firewall), is there a way to implement an authentication or anything else so I can allow it to be accessed from any IP worldwide yet have it secured?

I am trying to access the private key of a certificate I uploded to Windows azure do do decryption. I used a code similar to this post: Using DotNetOpenAuth OAuth 2 with Azure - Reading Certificate - difficulty extracting keys. Andrew Arnott provided an answer to what post referencing this link:[URL].. However I cannot access it so I am not sure what is the solution.
Essentially when try to cast the private key of a certificate as a RSACryptoProvider. I get nothing:
Dim provider As RSACryptoServiceProvider = DirectCast(certificate.PrivateKey, RSACryptoServiceProvider)
That is provider is assigned nothing. The code works perfectly outside of Azure.

I have created a service which runs fine on my development PC. It reads XML files data into and Access database. Any errors that might occur are wrote to an eventlog. Like I said all of this works fine on my development PC. I have copied the service EXE on to another PC and run the install and that all works but when the service is fired I get a .Net 2.0 error - system.argumentexception error. I put a delete temp file line of code in to see where the error was occuring and it seems to be when I try to open my database.
Do I need to create a deploy for my service?

I'm restricted to .Net 3.5 so I can't use isolatedstorage.getfilenames() as in .NET 4. What I have below isn't working yet. I do get to the messageBox included in the code below but I can't find the file "IST_Log.txt" anywhere on Windows XP where I ran the program. I saw the messagebox appear 3 times meaning AppendLog was being called. What do I need to do to write this file on either XP or Windows 7?
Public Sub appendLog(ByVal message As [String])
' Get the isolated store for this assembly
Dim isf As IsolatedStorageFile = IsolatedStorageFile.GetUserStoreForAssembly()
Dim format As String = "MM/dd/yyyy HH:mm:ss.fff"
Dim isfs1 As IsolatedStorageFileStream

I have and application written that works great on XP. It is VB.Net 2008, using .net 3.5. I install and Access database to the program file directory. In Vista, I get an error that is permissions related as even admins don't have default write permissions to the Program Files directory and access creates a .ldb file when in use. To solve this, I have had the users give themselves permission to the folder.
Is that the best solution? If not, where should data be stored in Vista and in Windows 7? Also, I have an update feature of my software that will download updates to the program files folder. Is this out, too?

I am working on a VB6 project and my organization is planning to upgrade the technology from VB6 to VB.net. As I am new to VB.net windows application development, I dont know where to start and what to include in code. I have read that VB.net windows applications code should have AssemblyInfo, CultureInfo, Windows Security authentication etc. But I have still not found any article, code sample or VB.net windows application sample that could give me a complete list of features that an organization level VB.net windows application must have.

In the past I had the indexing service installed on a Windows Server 2003 and used it to index files for my website. I did this by executing an OleDbCommand with a query and a connection string.How do I accomplish the same thing with the new "Windows Search Service" (Windows Server 2008) by using VB.NET? Does this work the same way so that I only need to change the Provider name which has been "MSIDXS.1" up to now? Case true, what is the new Provider name?

When you create a Windows Service, you create a list of the services you want to start. The default is this:
ServicesToRun = New System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase() {New Service}
Can you have multiple instances of the same Service class (that bind to different addresses or ports), like this?
ServicesToRun = New System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase() {New Service("Option1"), New Service("Option2")}
Or will that cause problems? Should we use two different classes instead?
