.net - Converting C++ Vb6 COM Object Into Dot Net?
Nov 9, 2010
I have a COM object in C++ and VB6 and everything is compiled and packaged using Visual Studio 2003. The C++ generates the DLL, and VB6 the EXE, so from the legacy code I can call the EXE that calls the DLL and so on. I need to migrate these to Visual Studio 2008. However, I have some questions
1) I can compile the C++ and generate the DLL - ( I think is ok)2) VB.Net doesn't have the option to generate COM/ActviveX anymore as VB6, so no idea - I tried to generate windows exe and call the dll, but it doesn't work. I think because it has some COM calls.
So what is the best solution to get rid of COM/ActiveX and deliver something?
Compile in C++ and load adding references in VB.net? I tried this but the DLL doesn't load..
I'm trying to convert an object, that is a list of something, to that list, but I'm having problems figuring out exactly how to do that. I have created the following code:
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Dim a As New List(Of String)
We have an object with properties, and a a SQL database we're reading in, to create a list of objects, with columns corresponding to each property.if a column is missing from the database (e.g. caused by an outdated version of the database), we want to assign a default value to it.I've created a dictionary, mapping the column name to its default value (both strings). However, I was wondering if it was possibly to somehow convert the column name (string) to an object property (e.g. the string "name" to AnObject.name?), as the property and column name are generally the same.I tried to use GetType().GetPropert("column name"), but I can't seem to do assignments through that)Alternately, is it possible to somehow create a dictionary, storing the object property as the key (and the column name and default value in a struct), and then grabbing it after.?
So, I'm creating an array of labels. I have labels set up as: labal1 label2 label3 etc...
I've declared the array as such: Dim labelArray(5) As Label
Now, instead of assigning the labels one by one to the array (labelArray(0) = label1, labelArray(1) = label2, etc...), I was hoping to use a loop (there will be more than 5 labels). I have something like this, which obviously doesn't quite work: For i = 0 To labelArray(i) = "label" & i Next Is there a function that I can use to convert the labelName string to an object, or have vb.net see that as an object instead of a string?
I have an application which take image from a folder through system, Io.filestream and convert it into bytes and store into database as byte data format and same I retrive from database as byte format and convert it into image into datagirdview. now I want to convert it into again bytes from datagridview. How to possible the value of image in datagridview into byte format.
I am using VB.NET 2010.I have a Queue to save different data (which all come from a class of mine) as FIFO Now, I want a Function to count the saved classes in my Queue, but this isn't working
My Code look like this
Private Function QueueSum(ByVal myQueue As
[code]....
TryCast seems to be wrong. - because the Intelli Sense tells me, that "SATZ" isn't declared.
I am needing to write data to a usb device. The USB device uses a byte array (DataArray() as byte) to store the data. How can I assign a struct object (myStruct(0)) to the byte array. I run into the error "Value of type byte cannot be converted to 1-dimensional array of byte" when I try to cast the struct as a byte.
I am currently writing unit tests for an application near completion (before management looks at it and turns it inside out). I am testing the business layer and a method is set to return a datatable of all "GroupID"s, which are simply an integer to represent the group that a user belongs to.
I'm assuming the best way to assert on this unit test would be to assert that the correct groupIDs are being returned from a controlled test database. However, I'm not sure how to assert on a datatable. Is the only (and best) possible way to accomplish this to simply loop through the datatable until it's empty and add each value to an array of integers? How would one go about asserting on this test?
I'm using date in the format dd-mm-yyyy and I need to convert a string inthis format to a date type.My string is "18-01-2010" but when I do the conversion using dim TargetDate as date=CDate(TgDstr).where TgDstr is "18-01-2010", the resutant TargetDate, as note in the debugger window, is #1/18/2010# rather than #18/1/2010# which I expected. What change in code should I made to get the desired result?
(P.s. I've checked the current culture with the following line of code:
Dim str As String = CultureInfo.CurrentCulture.Name and get the result 'zh-HK'... and the date-time format I find in the control panel is also in dd-mm-yy format)
I am somewhat new to object oriented programming and am attempting to flatten a Linq object hierarchy by using a shim class.how to initalize a derived class with property values from a base class?I have two objects, a base object with about 100 properties, and a derived object which inherits from the base object and adds a few additional properties beyond those of the base object. My simple constructor creates the derived object, but I am looking for a way to initialize the derived object properties with values from the base object.Right now I am using reflection to iterate over the properties individually and I suspect there may be a better way. The following example shows my shim class constructor for the derived class, and two properties:
newProperty1 - a new string property of the derived class
flattenedProperty2 - a new string property of the derived class, copied from a 2nd-level object of the base class
Code example:
Public Class derivedObj Inherits baseObj Private _newProperty1 As String[code].......
Is this the correct constructor approach to flatten the object hierarchy using a shim class? My second question relates to initialization of properties in the derived class. The constructor above creates the derived object, but what is the best way to initialize the derived object properties with values from the base object? The following code uses reflection to iterate over the properties individually, but I suspect there may be a better way.
Code example:
' property names are in the string array fieldNames
'baseObjQuery is an ienumerable of baseObj
'derivedObjList is a list of derivedObj[code].....
Is there a simple way to initialize values for the properties in the derived object based upon the values of the common properties in the base object?
I am getting following error whenever I want to use IIf function inside entity framework query.
LINQ to Entities does not recognize the method 'System.Object IIf(Boolean, System.Object, System.Object)' method, and this method cannot be translated into a store expression.
Occasionally I encountered this exception message while trying to download file from a server using System.Net.FtpWebRequest and System.Net.FtpWebResponse Object.
Download a file.ftpRequest_DL.Method = WebRequestMethods.Ftp.DownloadFile get the response object Dim ftpResponse_DL As FtpWebResponse = CType(ftpRequest_DL.GetResponse, FtpWebResponse)
If I declare my object at the beggining of my page class, and instantiate it in a dropdownlist selected_index change event. Shouldn't this object be available thru out the entire page and also persist thru a postback? I lose the object in my selected date change event in my calendar.
I have an ssis package that takes a flat file and dumps it to SQL. During that process, 150 columns need to have '-' and '.' removed from them. I have done this using a Script Transformation.
Public Overrides Sub Input0_ProcessInputRow(ByVal Row As Input0Buffer) Dim column As IDTSInputColumn90 Dim rowType As Type = Row.GetType()
[code]....
Edit I've discovered that this line is the problem
Dim strCol As String = columnValue.GetValue(Row, Nothing).ToString()
I am trying to start the process with the following parameters When I try to start it though I get an System.nullreferenceexception: Object reference not set to an instance of an object
Dim exepath As String = Application.StartupPath + "inffmpeg.exe" Dim sr As StreamReader Dim cmd As String = " -i """ + input + """ -ar 22050 -y """ + output + """" Dim ffmpegOutput As String
I have an object that is defined as a global variable based on custom class. Within that class I have an event that gets fired a certain intervals. These events are fired on the same thread as where the object is declared. How do I create a global object, but have the events within that object fire on a separate thread?
i am using VB.net 2003 and i am trying to get the number of rows of a dataset from form1 into form2 in order to use it for something else and i am getting the error"System.NullReferenceException occured...Additional information: object reference not set to an instance of an object"...my code is like this:in form1:Public x as integer= me.dataset.table.rows.count here it gives me the error
I am getting this error when I try to print my report. Here is my print code.
Private Sub PrintToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles PrintToolStripMenuItem.Click Dim Print_Dialog As New PrintDialog
[code].....
Here is my error: System.NullReference Exception: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
I'm trying to set the format of a column in a datagridview. When I put the format statement in the on load event for the form, it has no effect. When I put it in the cellformatting event I get the "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error. I checked the column name. What I am doing wrong?
This is the code:Private Sub MeetingTblDataGridView_CellFormatting(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellFormattingEventArgs) Handles MeetingTblDataGridView.CellFormatting Me.MeetingTblDataGridView.Columns("Starttime").DefaultCellStyle.Format = "HH:mm:ss" End Sub What I'm trying to do is get rid of the date part of a Date/Time field (stored in an Access database) in a datagridview column.
I know how to handle a single objects property changed event very easily. I want to handle a objects property changed event that is part of another object.
Given Object:
[ObjectY = Y] + Public WithEvents X As ObjectX
I would like to do something like:
Private Sub XPropertyChanged() Handles Y.X.PropertyChanged
Right now I need to create a object that equals the object inside that object and then handle this variable pointers property changed, but that is just annoying.
i am trying to allot a cell value to another cell value basing on some conditions & finally delete one column.my code is as fallows
Dim i, x As Integer i = 0 x = Me.DataGridView1.Rows.Count[code]....
error i am getting is : Object reference not set to an instance of an object.it is extremely surprising for me the same code has worked nice for me but why & how the same line of code is generating this error.
I am trying to write an VBA application in Excel 2010 using "Microsoft Soap Toolkit 3.0" on 64 bit Windows 7 to consume an web service. But i got an error while initializing an object of SoapClient30.
how I could have an object bounce back when it collides with an rectangle shape. There are multiple rectangle shapes and I don't want to do it all seperately for each one.
I tryed searching for an user in active directory using the code below but it gives me the error in the title of this post above:

I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to be doing with this. It's a new setting I just added and it's empty, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it or not. Anyone know what's going on and what needs to be done to get it to accept a value and not want to be "initialized"?
