I have an application which take image from a folder through system, Io.filestream and convert it into bytes and store into database as byte data format and same I retrive from database as byte format and convert it into image into datagirdview. now I want to convert it into again bytes from datagridview. How to possible the value of image in datagridview into byte format.

Now, instead of assigning the labels one by one to the array (labelArray(0) = label1, labelArray(1) = label2, etc...), I was hoping to use a loop (there will be more than 5 labels). I have something like this, which obviously doesn't quite work:

Is there a function that I can use to convert the labelName string to an object, or have vb.net see that as an object instead of a string?
I am needing to write data to a usb device. The USB device uses a byte array (DataArray() as byte) to store the data. How can I assign a struct object (myStruct(0)) to the byte array. I run into the error "Value of type byte cannot be converted to 1-dimensional array of byte" when I try to cast the struct as a byte.

My problem is I am unable to save the created image. Is this a conversion issue? I've highlighted code where I think I am failing at.
I am searching for some code to help me take the bitmap contents of picturebox1 and convert it into an icon (*.ico) to save. I cannot for the life of me find anything to accomplish this. View 2 RepliesI have made an application with a client, server and listener. The server is a console app and the other two are Windows Forms Applications.
Basically i am using a Network Stream to send messages from the client which go through the network to the server which bounces them to the listener which then reads the message and tells the app what to do. (For example if i sent "shutdown", the listener would read it and then execute "shell(shutdown -s)".
The messages are sent like the following SendMessage("shutdown") but when i use a screen capturing API and send from the listener to the client like so SendMessage(background) i get the following error:

I have a SQLite database which is running on a handheld which is capturing signatures using OpenNetCF's Smart Device Framework 2.1 running under Windows Mobile 6.1. The signatures are captured from the Signature control using the GetSignatureEx method and stored in the database.
What I want to do now is reconstitute the signatures on the desktop, but the desktop does not have a similar control. I looked at the data and it looks like a bunch of vectors, which explains why the data is so compact.

Great. Except the bitmap that is saved is 32bit and won't open properly. I want it to be 8 bit. I can't find any options to change the bitdepth.

I'm trying to see if I can do sprite animation in Visual Basic and, while I can use a Graphics object to translate a bitmap down a few pixels, I have absolutely no idea how to erase the bitmap drawn in its former position. I'm working on a program that has to get a set of images and then scan them to find pixels that match colors in an color array. Anyway I think I got everything working but how to load the images in as bitmaps. See the images are dynamic, they change there filenames so I can't call them with a static call like Dim bmp2 As New Bitmap("c:button.gif").
So I am using a loop to feed the images into an array for bitmap but thats not working, anyway that I can do this as, right now the program gets all the filenames for the images from a text file that is sent in to us. All I need to do is have the program check each image for pixels that match our color list. But I cant get the images into the bitmap array.
If I do the same thing in Paint it works OK. But if I open a .bmp file into Photoshop.Select All and Copy to put it on the clipboard. Then my code then reads the stream into a byte array and eventually makes a Bitmap from it.If I assign the bitmap to a background image it displays OK.But if I insert it into a RichTextBox using Khendys Gordon's method it does not display.However, I find if I clear the Clipboard before inserting it, it does display OK.I suspect the Bitmap is using the Clipboard for backing much like when and Image is created from a disk file.But it is confusing because I copy the stream into a byte array and make the Bitmap from the array. It would seem that once the values are copied into a new array the backing would not be in play any more.

I then try to convert this system.array to a double array as follows:

I have a small 10px by 10px image, and I want to use VB.NET to find out if that image is (an exact) part of a larger image.I thought a method of doing this would be to lock the bits of the larger image into memory and then loop through each pixel in the image and for each pixel, I could take the 10px by 10px section which is down and to the right of that pixel.. and then compare it to my smaller image.

Okay I am working on a Voice Recognition Application that has a chat bot in it. When voice is recognized it converts the recognized string into an array and checks if the first or last value of the array is either computer or the Bot's Name. I have a COM object in C++ and VB6 and everything is compiled and packaged using Visual Studio 2003. The C++ generates the DLL, and VB6 the EXE, so from the legacy code I can call the EXE that calls the DLL and so on. I need to migrate these to Visual Studio 2008. However, I have some questions
1) I can compile the C++ and generate the DLL - ( I think is ok)2) VB.Net doesn't have the option to generate COM/ActviveX anymore as VB6, so no idea - I tried to generate windows exe and call the dll, but it doesn't work. I think because it has some COM calls.
So what is the best solution to get rid of COM/ActiveX and deliver something?
Compile in C++ and load adding references in VB.net? I tried this but the DLL doesn't load..

We have an object with properties, and a a SQL database we're reading in, to create a list of objects, with columns corresponding to each property.if a column is missing from the database (e.g. caused by an outdated version of the database), we want to assign a default value to it.I've created a dictionary, mapping the column name to its default value (both strings).However, I was wondering if it was possibly to somehow convert the column name (string) to an object property (e.g. the string "name" to AnObject.name?), as the property and column name are generally the same.I tried to use GetType().GetPropert("column name"), but I can't seem to do assignments through that)Alternately, is it possible to somehow create a dictionary, storing the object property as the key (and the column name and default value in a struct), and then grabbing it after.?
View 1 RepliesI didn't think it fair to post a comment on Fredrik Mörk's answer in this 2 year old post, so I thought I'd just ask it as a new question instead..NB: This is not a critiscm of the answer in any way, I'm simply trying to understand this all before delving into memory management / the marshal class.
In that answer, the function GetByteArray allocates memory to each object within the given array, within a loop.Would the GetByteArray function on the aforementioned post have benefited at all from allocating memory for the total size of the provided array:

I just wonder if allocating the memory, as shown in the answer, causes any kind of fragmentation? Assuming there may be fragmentation, would there be much of an impact to be concerned with? Would allocating the memory in the way I've shown force you to call IntPtr.ToInt## to obtain pointer offsets from the overall allocation pointer, and therefore force you to check the underlying architecture to ensure the correct method is used*1 or is there a better way? (ToInt32/ToInt64 depending on x86/64?)
*1 I read elsewhere that calling the wrong IntPtr.ToInt## will cause overflow exceptions. What I mean by that statement is would I use:
