.net - Cutting Up Large XML File Into Small Chunks?

Jan 30, 2011

I have a large wikipedia dump that I want to cut into different files (1 file for each article). I wrote a VB App to do it for me, but it was quite slow and crapped out after a few hours of cutting. Im currently splitting the file into smaller 50mb chunks using another app but thats taking a long time (20-30 minutes for each chunk). I should be able to cut each of these up individually if I do this.

Does anyone have any suggestions of a way to cut this file up quicker?

Value Was Either Too Large Or Small For Decimal

When I try and run the program I get an error stating
"Value was either too large or too small for a Decimal."
On the line that says
principal = payment - InterestPaid
I've included the rest of the code as well. Perhaps this is a downside of staring at the screen for so long.

Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click

Dim result As String

Value Was Either Too Large Or Too Small For An Int32

Jun 1, 2009

I have writen a program in Visual Studio 2005 professional. Part of the program functions is to store customers details. Part of this details include a phone number. I can add a customer and include his/her telephone no. which is 12 digits long. But when retreiving this customer I get the following error.Value was either too large or too small for an Int32. Couldn't store <+23320805060> in Phone Column.Expected type is Int32.The program runs fine If the phone numer is less than or = 9 digits. The datatype i am using is for the phone column is varchar(50). I have tried to change the data type to bigint, int and nvarchar(50) but the problem seems to persist. I am using the SQL database but i seem to be hitting a brick wall on this matter.

Value Was Either Too Large Or Too Small For An Int16 Error

Jun 9, 2010

I am working on fixing a bug in VB that is giving this error. I am new to VB, so there is some syntax that I am not fully understanding. The code that is throwing the error says:

.Row(itemIndex).Item("parentIndex") = CLng(oID) + 1000000

I understand that adding 1000000 is too much for an int16. I can't change that value (not right now anyway). What I don't understand, and can't seem to find, is what .Row is referring too.

Handling Large Collections Of Data, But Small In Size?

Dec 1, 2009

So, I have a little issue.. I can't currently explain it using the software I'm developing because it's "internal"... So I'm going to describe it as an email serverAnd the email server has a fair number of email accounts, and I want to save the accounts emailFor development, I've been saving it all in a list of a structure (this sounds worse than it is, the data actually is no more than 120 bytes per "email")

How To Read And Encrypt A File In Chunks

Dec 24, 2011

I keep trying to encrypt a large file using this method: How to encrypt and decrypt a file by using Visual Basic .NET or Visual Basic 2005

However, these files can be upwards of 400MB. Naturally, I keep getting a system.outofmemory ex. Apparently, I can fix this by processing the file in chunks, but I haven't the slightest idea of how to do this.

Read Chunks From A File And Store Them In A List?

Dec 2, 2010

I have a list of files and all of them have a different size. I need to upload them in chunks of 250Kb (or less if it's a small file or if it's the last chunk of a file).What I would like to do is read a bunch of chunks (lets say 15 chunks), in a separate thread, and then store the chunks of data in some sort of list. This list must be available to other threads.

An upload thread (I don't need help with uploading itself) takes the first chunk from the list and marks the chunk as "currently being uploaded". When the chunk has been fully uploaded, then the chunk is removed from the list. A second upload thread takes the next available chunk in the list that has not been set to "currently being uploaded", etc. There are a total of 10 upload threads working at the same time.

As soon as a chunk is removed from the list, then a new chunk of data is read and added to the list.Does anybody know what kind of list I need or how I should do something like this? I don't expect people to write out the code for me, but I have no idea where to start with this.

TCP File Transfer Using Byte Array 'Chunks'?

Jul 21, 2011

I've been trying to create my own backup system by sending specific files to a server running on my desktop, and then having those files copied to an external. So far, I'm trying to send files using a tcp network. Unfortunately, for soem reason, tcp cannot send more than 9kb at a time, so when i tried to send a 30kb image, it recreated 1/3 of it. My fix to this problem was to send data by chunks of 8kb, then reconstruct the file chunk by chunk. For some reason, when I run the server and client, the client says it sends all the data, however the server seems to be stuck. Here is my code;

Html - .net HTTP GET In Chunks?

Dec 31, 2011

I want to get some HTTP source with VB.net. The page is huge though, so it would suit me to pull it in chunks. I'm also already reading about the VB.net background worker. So far I'm using this code: HTTP GET in VB.NET but my program stalls while it loads the page, for a decent amount of time. The page to get is http://ftp.drupal.org/files/projects/, but don't go there unless you absolutely have to.

Should I stick with the background worker, and/or is there a way to split up the HTTP request?

Link To A Small Zip File With An Existing VB

Sep 23, 2010

Below is a link to a small zip file with an existing VB (2005 I think) program. [URL] This programs detects if the OS is Locked. I want to make a small edit, and have found the required code for the edit, but I have been unsuccessful at attempting to implement the code. As I said this program only detects windows locks and unlocks. What I want to do, is set it to run an exe when I lock my computer. Doesn't matter what the exe is, just a very basic program.

I however have not been able to find where I need to insert this code. The zip file contains about 6-8 files, I thought I found the if statement where I needed to drop the code but even when I added it to every if that seemed probably I couldn't get any result. what if statement the code I need to add should go into. honestly all I need, I can handle the code past finding that.

Merge Hex Data From Small DAT File?

Dec 17, 2010

Is it possible to use VB code to code an application that can merge Hex data from a small (50kb) .dat file with the hex data from another small (50kb) file? This would require designating specific offsets, which I can pre-program, but If I could have user input this would be preferred.

Example.
Hex_1.dat
00 00 00 00 00 11 11 11 11 11 (Offset = 5)
Hex_2.dat
22 22 22 22 22 33 33 33 33 33 (To offset = 5)
Result file
Result.dat
11 11 11 11 11 22 22 22 22 22

Large Multidimensial Array - Write A Program To Do Markov Chain But States Are Quite Large

Jun 9, 2011

I want to write a program to do Markov chain, but my states are quite large. First of all I calculate all the transition probabilities and revenues for all states(1381860 total states), and store in a multidimensional array. Public RevArr(0 To 9, 0 To 750, 0 To 282) As Long

After that the iteration of markov chain should use these as inputs to calculate the steady-state probabilities. But when I try to run the main code I got this error.Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.

The following is the declaration of second array I add just another dimension for storing all the iterations, but I get this error. Dim stateprob(IT + 1, 0 To 9, 0 To 750, 0 To 282) As single

.net - Cutting Off The 0's At The Front Of A Record?

Feb 6, 2012

Basically, I have an Access database with Primary keys that are structured with this format ("02"000).When I try to paste the number, it ignores the "02" and goes straight to 000.For example, here is the code;

PeriodRoomID.Name = ("R" & ds.Tables("sqlSpecRoomRequest").Rows(i).Item(1))

What PeriodRoomID.Name should be is R02001.What PeriodRoomID.Name comes up as is R1.It ignores the "02" and ignores the 0s. This makes sense mathematically but it is not what I want. I need a way to get the exact output and not some simplified version.

The query;

SELECT SpecialSoftware.SpecSoftID, SpecialSoftware.RoomID, SpecialSoftwareNames.Description, Rooms.Capacity
FROM SpecialSoftware, SpecialSoftwareNames, Rooms

Cutting Off Digits And Rounding Up/down?

Jul 22, 2010

I need a function that takes a decimal, with a certain number of digits behiond the comma and convert it to a string with a different number of n digits behind the comma. (to display it)My problem is the rounding ip/down.

like 123,789 with n = 2 --> 123,79
or 123,4 with n = 0 --> 123
or 123,5 with n = 0 --> 124

I did not find an existing function that does that, so I wrote one myself.However the code has become soo complex and it still does not work well, and I get frustrated to spend soo much time with something so trivial.Does anyone know a function that can do this? There must be something out there.

Cutting A String Without Half-words?

Aug 8, 2003

I need to display the first c.200 characters of a longer string, for the homepage of a news website. I am using VB.NET. Obviously, cutting exactly 200 chars quite often cuts a word in half, e.g.: "The last five years have seen a radical increase in the volume and complexity of company legislation. The Bahamas has established a Stock Exchange, passed legislation aimed at regu" I need a function that will produce: "The last five years have seen a radical increase in the volume and complexity of company legislation. The Bahamas has established a Stock Exchange, passed legislation aimed at" I can then add "... [More]" or whatever to the end of this string and voila! Is there any way of using regular expressions (regex), substr or something similar to produce this output?
