.net - Make A VB-dll And Load It In C++ Application?

I have a problem I've been struggeling with for a full week now, and I'm not able to solve it by myself. I've been googeling, and searching in all kind of forums.I have found lots of "this might work", tried it, but no, no success. If anyone have any clue,I'v got, from an external source, lots of classes and functions written in VB that I need to be able to use from a C++ application. My first though was: no problem, I turn the VB code into a dll, and load it from my C++-program. This was though harder than I ever could imagine. My C++-program is not written in Visual Studio, but for simplicity I started with trying to load my VB dll (written in Visual Studio 2010) from a Visual Studio C++ application. I looked at the link with the tutorial, but there is a small problem: there are no such thing as "ActiveX DLL" to choose among all the project types. And yes, I do have Visual Studio 2010 Professional (a trial version, but still).

is there any way to make the app load and compile local dll?
an exemple:
All process over visual studio 2010
i made an app on win7 that uses shell32.dll but the way that win7 compile his own interlog.shell32.dll it makes the app don't work in XP. But if after i finish the app on win7 send the code to a xp machine and set the shell32.dll on XP the app will work fine.
so... if there was a way to make the app, at his first load, do search from needed dll to compile them for his needs, it will was fantastic.

is it possible to make one application send a task to another application and recieve the result from that secondary app?i made a text editor program and i added a scan feature and i made another app that has ocr capabilities.The scanner ability is in my text editor program, the ocr program doesnt scan you have to input an image into it and it will give text result a few seconds later.the prob is alot of times the ocr code uses sooo much memory and crashes when its incorporated with my text editor, but individually each application works fine and doesnt take too much memory. Memory wont be even an issue if the ocr program is standalone so that when it is done decoding image the application can be made to exit. now here is the question, how do i make my text editor send the image to the ocr program and how do i make my ocr program send the text back to my text editor? is it possible? i mean the only way i know off is creating temp files in a certain folder and having a timer on each program that keeps waiting for temp files. That just seems like pretty lame coding to me i was wondering if there's a better way?

I am creating an application that is a services calculator. The user selects various options and an amount is calculated. I do not want to hard code the values due to the potential for pricing changes then I would have to change the pricing as opposed to an authorized user. I do not want to use a database, and this will be an offline application

I want to able to hold a key down while the application is loading and depending on which is being held down a certain form is shown.
For example holding down shift and the opening itunes opens a little dialog allowing you set the library(or something)
I can check whether the shift/Ctrl/Alt are being held down but i'd prefer to use the letters/digits.
Such as hold 1 down to open Form1 and hold 2 down to open form 2.

I have a simple console application which consists of a single executable and a DLL file. My project has a reference to the DLL. My question is how do I ensure the DLL is present in the same directory and prevent the console app from crashing? Although in reality the two files will probably never be separated, I want to make sure someone can diagnose the error without me there.
At first I tried adding File.Exists(PathToDLL) at the beginning of Sub Main(). If the file wasn't found, I was going to display a message and quit the application. But apparently if the DLL is referenced at any point in the code, a System.IO.FileNotFoundException is thrown regardless if the line is executed.
Is there some way to handle this in the executable itself without creating another executable to load that one?

I'm using VB.Net, and I have a set of data which I have to able to filter through fairly quickly.Basically, the program is like google sugest, but instead of a drop-down menu, I'm using a listbox. When a user enters a word, I compare the word using LINQ and filter those that contain the user's input. The data are all strings of variable length (from 0 to 200 characters, most on 150 character mark), and I have 240,000+ of this strings and counting- all stored in an XML file.
A colleague of mine told me that loading all of that to memory (using VB.Net's XML serializer plus collections of string/objects) is not practical, and would slow the 'startup' time of the program. I haven't finished building the program yet and I'm having second thoughts about continuing this path.
So, my question is: Should I continue with my current approach on the problem (which is load everything to memory on startup), or is there a better way of solving my dilemma?

I use SetParent to make an external application a "child" of my Main .Net application. This works fine.What I need to know is why can't I use Me.MDIChildren(0)I thought that using SetParent would increase the number of children by 1, thus allowing me to reference it with the above code, but it shows there are no children in the array.I have been trying, without luck, for 2 days to try to maximize an external app being displayed in my app. I can get it to display, but I would love it if it could Dock to the same size as its container (a panel)

I am making a exe application and i am using mysql as my database. So the thing is, when i change to a new computer, i need to change the file path for the database connection string to that computer.
like below:

i need to change the data source = --------------- SQLEXPRESS to the computer name that i am using for my project.
May i ask is there any method such that the user dont have to go in to the source code to change the computer's name like those normal installer?
Just install and the application will run according like any exe file that we buy.

I have been trying to reference Application.ThreadException in my application to make an addhandler, but I also am using imports growl.connector which has a growl.connector.application method. When I create my addhandler:AddHandler Application.ThreadException, AddressOf ThreadExceptionHandler
And I get "ThreadExecption is not an event of 'growl.connector.application'"
